Alright, then. Here are the words straight from Microsoft.

http://www.fastsilicon.com/latest-news/microsoft-admits-all-xbox360s-are-defective.html?Itemid=60

Microsoft says ALL current 360s are defective. That means every single one has an equal chance of bricking. In light of that, I think that 1 in 3 estimate is pretty close to the mark.

Thats odd, because my 360 works fine, and has been now for almost two years now.
But whatever.
I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you.

You obviously feel like you have something to prove.

Goodness gracious. Is it that hard to understand that just because some people get off easy that many others suffer hardware issues? Your Xbox 360 works! Good for you! I hope it stays that way, because if all current 360s are defective then you are just as susceptible to this Red Ring failure as everyone else.

I'll use my drunk driving example again: there are people who drink and drive and NEVER get ticketed or get in an accident. That must mean drunk driving is safe, right? No. You are highly susceptible to risk, and current 360s are highly susceptible to failures, whether you skate by it or not.

I've never called anyone a fanboy before, although I've certainly been called such many times, often erroneously, but I have to put my foot down:

Anyone who thinks the high failure rate of the Xbox 360 is not a problem is a Microsoft fanboy, plain and simple.

So... how do I cause my console to red ring so I can possibly get the 360 with HDMI back or will time itself bring the red ring of death to my door?

I hate the assholes who say "THE WARNETEE COVERS 3 YEARS SO YOU SHOULD BY THE FUCKER!"

Yea um....if I run over and lop your arm off with a chain saw, your insurance will cover that.

However, I am sure you would rather know or prevent me from chopping your arm off than just getting compensation for that and live without an arm. ;D

HDMI is not bad,its good to see lil upgrades and a small price drop ontop of a chip revision that will fix the fail rate issue.

Its more like 30% because of sloppy cooling design ,the new chips eliminate half or more of the heat resulting in the sloppy cooling design working thus making the console have a normal 10% fail rate LOL.

As for the PS3 no games, games tht are poorly optimized and a high price tag make me think the PS3 is as bad as the easy 360 bake ovens.....

Am I the only one worried about what ms is doing here? When I buy a system the last thing I want to see is a new improved version comming out. One of the things that contributed to Sega getting out of the system making was that they came out with too many systems over a short period of time. Remember the 32x, sega cd ect? We all payed good money for our 360's and its a load of bs for ms to not give us the complete package knowing full well that they were going to release a better version. I don't care about a larger hard drive on my system, but I do not want to have to worry that my system is obsolete after a short period of time. in fact, I feel ripped off by ms, and all of you should feel the same. Having a 42 inch lcd, I would have waited for this if I knew it was comming out. Inn the long run, this could potentialy hurt future system launches for ms if people lose faith in them. As a guy who only owns one system, I might just have to think a little harder the next time I buy a system.

Let's all be honest here. No fanboyism or flaming let's be honest and look at the realities of the 360. Microsoft did rush the 360 to get a year head start on the competition. Microsoft wanted to be more successful with the 360 than the XBOX1 and played a little catch up. In the process they fumbled the 360's cooling and experienced a high failure rate, BUT they are doing everything in their power to make it up to the consumers. The extended the warranty from 1 year to 3 years to ensure that anyone who bought the system in the past will get their system fixed FREE of charge. If your console is gonna RROD then it will do it within 3 years. I commend Microsoft for this. I mailed my 360 back to them last Tuesday and am confident that my console will return to me fixed and improved. They didn't set aside 1.5 billion for nothing. I think that with all the money they set aside for this that any system returned will recieve the new 65nm chips.

When the 360 was launched HDMI, HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray were not established technologies. Microsoft didn't know if these technologies were gonna take off so instead bumping the price of the unit up $100 or so dollars they omitted these options. Now that HDMI is set in stone and included with almost all the new HDTVs Microsoft is gonna include HDMI with the 360.

So in being honest I think that Microsoft should be commended for trying to look out for the consumer rather than being condemned.

I loved my X-Box 1 and I never understood why they pulled the plug on it. That's why the 360's technological shortcomings, (yes, having a system that breaks down at a 20% rate is a technological shortcoming) really pisses me off.

Toslink audio is enough for me... I'll never run my console's audio directly through my TV, so the 2-in-1 HDMI has never appealed to me. It's not like the console itself supports higher than Dolby 5.1 for games anyways. Why not just go the extra yard and throw in DVI ports.
