I wasn't aware that a Speed Racer movie was coming

Nor can i imagine a scenario in which the movie would be any good (full length movies based off Episodic Animes generally don't turn out well)

Do we get to kill Spridle and Chim Chim? (FINALLY!)
Or some "hot coffee" with Trixie? (what's in a name?)

*slow clap*

Also the early things I've seen from the movie, like the mach 5, look awesome. It'll be absolutely ridiculous which could be fantastic.

....oh god

The guy that's the doing the script is the same guy that did Casshern....

Also, if you check out this interview with Christina Ricci on youtube:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=A1cokR6FrD0
she mentions that they're bringing in real-world issues and stuff into the script, so expect some serious justifications for the cartooniness of the Speedracer characters. You'd understand if you ever watched Casshern.

Dark-Pen, you might want to read that IMDB profile a little more closely. How can a guy who died in 1977 write a script for a movie that came out in 2004?

How does bringing in "modern tension" (Christina Ricci's words) translate to "real world issues" (your interpretation)?
I don't think you have to worry about them threading in a character dying from cancer.

Dude, back in the day, Speed Racer had spies as enemies. Most were commies. The Soviet Union has collapsed since then, so the new bad guys now are towel-head terrorist. So they are simply updating the cartoon because now if you say Russia people think of beer and Vlad doing Sambo. :D

Ahh Speed Racer. My first localized anime. Man I miss Anpanman. Great post night vision dude. The funny translation and the periodic pauses and shouts makes it better than the original just like DBZ.

Anyone remember how Pops talked? And I wonder if that'll carry over into the movie.

First it were remakes, then movies based off novels, then comic books, and now childhood cartoons. What will Hollywood shit out next?

Hmm... my guess would be movies based on toy lines...

Wait, you're a Transformers fan? Then I guess you already know all about that.

Wait a minute...

According to the IMDb page, they're going to have one person play Rex Racer, and a completely different person play Racer X. They're the same person! How can you have different actors for what is really the same role?

Ah, screw it. That real-life Mach 5 looks sweet.

Because Racer X will probably be Rex's full time stuntman anyway.

A couple of possibilities (but don't take either to heart just yet):

1) IMDb isn't always the most reliable source. Remember, it's made of user-submitted content, so this may be incorrect.

2) They could be making Rex and Racer X seperate characters for some unknown reason.

Dr. Jack-ass Shephard as Racer X.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that.

The movie will be a flop along with the game. The Wachowski's bros only made ONE good movie, The Matrix...

The Matrix Sequels sold well for something that was not Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, combining a total for 1 billion dollars. Reviews were mixed, they gained fans and was the highest grossing Rated R movie at that time.

Also the Wachowskis wrote, produced and directed V for Vendetta which was a worldwide success and praise.

Just because you have crappy taste does not mean everyone must follow you. If so, then welcome to Joystiq Roger Ebert. ;D
