Talking 'aboot' Xbox price drops, Canada gets $100 off, eh?
Canada blessed the United States with The Kids in the Hall, and now Microsoft is returning the favor by giving Canada $100 off their Xbox 360s. Now, that's $100 CDN and not USD before all those near the border go running north for cheap prescription drugs, maple syrup, miniature pet caribous and Xboxen. The new prices are $399 for the Premium, $299 for Core and $499 for Elite. Canada will also receive the Halo 3 Xbox for $449. Oh, in case any Americans are thinking that the Canadians are getting a deal ... they aren't. The $349 Premium in the States would roughly convert to $365 CDN.
Heck, while we're at it, Mexico got a price drop too! You can now get the Premium in Mexico for $5,199 pesos. Which means our brothers and sisters to the south actually pay $479 dollars for what the US gets at $349. That's ridiculous and something Mexican gamers should seek amnesty for.

the kids in the hall are the greatest thing to ever happen to entertainment
Champloo @ Aug 12th 2007 2:48PM
Amen to that, they're the best damn comedy group around. Even if they haven't been active as a group for years, ha.
Now on the subject of the price drop... WOOHOO! It may not be a deal to you Americans, but we've had to pay $499 +tax before now. So while we may be paying $50 more than you guys, it's still a hell of a lot better than it was. And that's good enough for me.
Christopher Grant @ Aug 8th 2007 11:30AM
Agreed.

Mad TV was the worst.

im going to have to say SNL in the 1990's was prob the greatest cast to ever work together. rip phil hartman and chris farley :(
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 8th 2007 11:19AM
I've only watched a few skits on Comedy Central. And then never again. I just can't find the motivation to watch shows like SNL and this anymore. Sure I find them funny most of the time but I just don't bother finding them.
Stef Geiger @ Aug 8th 2007 11:21AM
It's pretty absurd how we Canadians get screwed with prices. Our dollar is worth 95 American cents right now. Prices should be FIVE percent more, not 20.
Marasai @ Aug 8th 2007 11:23AM
Amen.
We get shafted on nearly everything. Americans are always bitching about 60 dollar games when we have 70 dollar games.
colin @ Aug 8th 2007 9:28PM
wahhh, waahhh, waahh ...
its not fair ...
boo hoo hoo ...
whenever these posts have country-specific information, the comments turn into a bitch session. its not our fault you don't get x, or your z costs more than ours, or you don't have access to y. if you can't stand it so much, move to america. if you hate america too much to move despite the benefits, QUIT BITCHING ABOUT IT!!!
that is all
Stef Geiger @ Aug 8th 2007 9:32PM
Uh, the post is ABOUT Canadian pricing. I think it's pretty stupid to tell me I should go elsewhere to discuss pricing disparities.
colin @ Aug 8th 2007 11:45PM
i didn't tell you to go somewhere else to discuss it, i just said quit bitching about it ... and it was mostly directed to the person that replied to you previous to me. e.g. "americans are always bitching about ..."
the comments just turn into estrogen venting competitions whenever people start complaining. i guess ive just seen this so many times. and the correct answer is the fact that cost of goods in your country has little to do with just the exchange rate. the company selling you the product comes up with a "fair price" based on household income, what the majority of the gainfully employed can afford and will pay, the cost to export, taxes, the financial benefit of selling the product to you and your country, etc.
so to say its not fair and that you are getting shafted is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. you are not entitled to cheaper american made electronics just like i am not entitled to cheap northern lights or maple syrup. (that shit's expensive down here!)
colin @ Aug 8th 2007 11:50PM

You Canadians are just angry that your "free" "universal" "health" care doesn't cover dying XBOX360s, amirite?
Also Canadians are not allowed to complain since they basically get every benefit the US has, and no drawbacks . Also you guys invented Starmania so A+ for that.
Crono @ Aug 8th 2007 11:46AM
Dude...
wait, what?
LordMinogue @ Aug 8th 2007 11:49AM
Check the exchange rate, a US dollar is break even with a CA dollar now. This shouldn't be a surprise.
Evan @ Aug 8th 2007 11:51AM
We're not just screwed by the price, we also don't get all the content. Especially video downloads. We can buy tv shows on DVD from FutureShop, the same day the DVDs are released in the U.S... but we can't buy tv episodes of the same shows on XBox's video download service like Americans can! Why?
DVersion @ Aug 8th 2007 2:09PM
It's called the CRTC. Know the regulations of your own country.
AirIntake @ Aug 8th 2007 3:32PM
It's hardly the CTRC restricting this content. It's more likely international licensing issues.

Well, you have to take into account that in Mexico all prices include tax which is of 15% and the Premium version includes two games (PGR3 and Perfect Dark).
Without taxes the price is aprox. $419 USD with two games (eventhough they are launch games) which in the end isn't THAT bad of a deal.
aitmanga @ Aug 8th 2007 12:38PM
Even more when you take into account that the 60GB PS3 model goes for $8990 pesos ($817 USD, minus taxes:$710 USD) and I got my Wii for $4690 pesos ($426 USD, minus taxes: $370).
Grindstone @ Aug 8th 2007 5:41PM
Well, you could just jump the border and get it for cheaper. I mean, 12 million already did, why not one more (assuming you haven't already done so)?

"I'm Crushing your Xbox prices! Crush crush crush!"
murdocdark @ Aug 8th 2007 12:47PM
YEah my wii cost me $4500 pesos, becouse i bought it in walmart but the official retailer in mexico sells the wii in $4,999.00 pesos that is freaking high becouse if they are the official retailer they should have the best price, i remembered once i sent an email to nintendo asking them why is the difference so big in usa and mexican prices, becouse i see in other countrys they set a price but in mexico, and they told me that they couldn't do anything becouse they don't have a nintendo of mexico :p, damn, by the way the first time i saw a ps3 60g, was about $14,000.00 pesos ($1,272.00 USD) isn't that something to love mexico :p, anyway later on i saw a price drop to $9,500.00 pesos but anyway that is too much.
Dave Silva @ Aug 8th 2007 2:10PM
You Americans have it easy.
Down here we have to deal with insane import taxes, not to mention retailer markup. Oh and our systems are set to only play Region 4 DVDs, too.
It's cheaper for me to smuggle systems back into Mexico.
zooo @ Aug 8th 2007 2:14PM
It's kinda disingenuous to make any comparisons based on currency conversions right now. The US Dollar is at it's lowest point in years/history vs most countries (except for Japan), so _anything_ outside of US will look expensive. It's not as if the people in those countries are suddenly getting pay cuts. It is cheaper for them in the real world.
OTAM @ Aug 8th 2007 2:26PM

tweek @ Aug 8th 2007 3:22PM
Hey at least your all getting a price cut. Spare a thought for us european types every now an again.
Lucky @ Aug 8th 2007 4:08PM
What your forgetting to add is that 360's started out like $50 more here. With the excange rate so cloes now, even befor the price drop they were cheeper in the states. Now there about the same price.
Frank @ Aug 8th 2007 4:15PM
About time Microsoft did this. When the PS3 dropped $100 in the states, it dropped $150 in canada to reflect our exchange rate. The exchange rate is pretty awesome for us canuck importers right now. When the PS2 came out it was $500 canadian, the PS3 (60 gig) is $550 right now (cheapest model), and the x-box (20gig) is $400. So this generation isn't really that much more expensive than the last one for Canadians.

Canadian's are used to slightly over paying for videogames vis-a-vis the United States. Everytime I think about how we are getting ripped off, I remember that I'm better off then the rest of the world who get truly hosed when it comes to game pricing.
colin @ Aug 8th 2007 11:48PM

Chainblast @ Aug 9th 2007 2:27AM
Future Shop has the new prices listed on the website today (Wednesday) and the premium model also includes Forza 2 and Splinter Cell. Not a bad deal for $399.99. You can also get the Elite for with Splinter Cell. However if I actually were to buy a 360 it would be the new hardware. Hopefully the price remains the same.
