Amazon selling Xbox 360 for $330
Apparently cutting $50 off of the price of the Xbox 360 Pro yesterday just wasn't enough for Amazon.com. Like Fancy's mother painting her soon-to-be-harlot daughter's face and jamming her into high heels, the online retailer is doing what it can to unload the systems on well-heeled callers. In this case, they've cut the price an additional $20, selling the systems for $329.99.We don't know exactly why they're trying to clear some 360s out of their stockroom, but, were we in a betting mood, we'd bet that it has something to do with the invading 360s that include HDMI connections. Out with the old, in with the new, as it were. There's no similar sale on Elite or Core models. If you don't yet have a 360 though, it's a fine bargain. We don't know how long it'll last though, so you may want to act fast.

Time to buy a 3rd one! I get bored sitting on the toilet.
Kazi @ Aug 9th 2007 4:35PM
My DS and Laptop are one thing, but this, this is truly a thought of brilliance.
nerrrrrrd @ Aug 9th 2007 4:40PM
you can't enjoy listening to rednecks with the microphone too close to their mouths argue with a DS.
samfish @ Aug 9th 2007 5:20PM
You could just keep Fox News on in the background if you want that.
MooseMuffin @ Aug 9th 2007 4:31PM
Maybe its to compete with the retailers who are selling the 360 bundled with a game?
Evan @ Aug 9th 2007 4:35PM
Perhaps they are discounted an additional $20 because they are not bundling a game. Given the choice of free table tennis verses nothing, most people will buy from the retailer offering the free game. But given the choice of free table tennis verses $20 off, people might take the one without the game.
soulscreme @ Aug 9th 2007 4:37PM
I'd bet that it has more to do with the fact that most stock rooms have stacks of 360s laying around just the same as those pics of unsold PS3s.
Jouten @ Aug 9th 2007 5:11PM
I don't know about you, but here where I am, they can't keep the 360's in stock! They always have Wii's available and the PS3's never seem to move.
Lately there has been alot of 360's moved, two shelves worth of them along with a whole lot of HD-DVD Drives too.
I'm not sure if I want to get one though since I have the VGA adapter and it works just fine. This is the same console I've had since Launch Day (Costo Premium Bundle).
I guess I am just super lucky that I never experienced all these problems that everyone else has. Works like a charm since day one.
I will more than likely get a PS3 eventually, maybe either after another price cut or I win one (or the lottery). But you gotta have a PS3 eventually if you want any RPG goodness.
Crono @ Aug 9th 2007 4:43PM
Joystiq, I need you guys to confirm that the new HDMI equipped 360's also have the 65 nm chips in them. Tell Microsoft that the sale of many a console rides on this information, perhaps then they'll pony up with the info.
Korova @ Aug 9th 2007 4:47PM
Yeah, and get me a sandwich and a coffee while you are at it.
Terra Brooks @ Aug 9th 2007 4:45PM
What a waste of money.
MS releases a half-assed console and expects their customers to keep buying it over and over again.
(Until they finally fix the damn thing)
They should have just released the console "right" in the beginning. An all shit that's going on now, probably wouldn't be happening.
But of course the console would've cost around the same price as a PS3, if they did that.
So what's more important? Having a reliable console available to their customers? Or a having a console available that has a shit load of problems, but a least its cheaper than our competitors.
GRANTED @ Aug 9th 2007 4:53PM
yeah i cant believe how many 360 owners talk about having two or more consoles. i know everyone's got their reasons, but, well idunno. i'm not a hardcore gamer. i just think HD is pretty.
so how many 360 users have more than one? why?
MooseMuffin @ Aug 9th 2007 4:56PM
*shrug* My one and only 360 works fine, and I couldn't care less if its hooked up via component or hdmi.
Knight Marquise @ Aug 9th 2007 5:40PM
@ Terra Brooks
"MS releases a half-assed console and expects their customers to keep buying it over and over again.
(Until they finally fix the damn thing)"
Why not, it worked for Sony and the PS2.
@ Granted
I have bought 5 360's. One is a launch console, still works just fine, 1 was for my wife, 2 for my twins, and I bought an Elite to see what all the fuss was about with HDMI (can't tell a difference, other then it's nice to use one cable). The Elite became mine, and my launch console is now for guest to use when we have company.
Jojo @ Aug 9th 2007 6:40PM
@Granted :
I have 2. Not because I'm #HARDCORE#, but because there are two places I play, my office (i work at home) and my living room. And its much easier transfering a harddrive than the entire console. And I have a backup incase one goes belly up (which I agree is unacceptable). Thankfully neither one has had the RROD.
Dove @ Aug 9th 2007 9:45PM
I am probably going to pick up the Elite in a couple days, I haven't had any issues with my current 360 but hell it'll be worth it to sell my current one to my friend for a few bucks just so I can have more people to play on XBL with!
Ben Hobbs @ Aug 10th 2007 10:44AM
I have 3 consoles for my Lounge, Home Cinema Room and Master Bedroom - Two other bedrooms are also wired for networking, I will add 2 more xbox 360's at a later date.
Why?
Vista Media Centre with 2 Tb of movies (including HD), TV Series, photos and music as well as Satellite and Cable TV.
I can watch my entire DVD collection (400+ movies), HD-DVD collection (30 movies) and view all my photos through the xbox360 as an extender.
Whole system cost me just over $2,000 which isn't bad for a video, music and media distribution system that can handle High Def content AND play games.

This picture was taken from a premium with an HDMI port on it.
Notice it says Zephyr. Zephyr is the codename of the elite motherboard (HANA chip with HDMI port, but still the 90nm CPU/GPU).
no 65nm YET.
Crono @ Aug 9th 2007 4:55PM
Seriously. I have a refurb I purchased off of ebay in march. Its been working great so far, but I know its only a matter of time. I'd like to sell it and trade it for a 65nm with HDMI (I'm getting an HDMI scaler/switcher). I guess I'll just have to hope and pray the refurb lasts a little while longer.
Jake @ Aug 9th 2007 4:57PM
Does Zephyr have to do with the chip size or just the inclusion of HANA and HDMI? You may really be onto something there.
The sooner MS gets the 65nm out the sooner I will swap my 360 at Gamestop for the new revision.
Jake @ Aug 9th 2007 5:00PM
Wait a minute, I checked your picture and it doesn't show the HDMI. How do we know this isn't just a picture off of a regular box? Maybe because it is white, I guess.
In any case, it has been stated that the new 65nm product would be identifiable with a sticker.
ranova @ Aug 9th 2007 5:22PM
well the box is white for one, and no 360 premium boxes have said "Zephyr" before, it was strictly only on elites. I found this on some gaming forum, so thats the best I can provide atm.
0ldb0y @ Aug 9th 2007 4:48PM
Ignan't consumers, go and get 'em!
To be fair though, those who don't care for the new port can still get a great experience out of the box for a good price. I'm enjoying mine just fine without HDMI.
Rather, I was enjoying it until last week. Coffin arrived today...
Badboy1979 @ Aug 9th 2007 5:17PM
Exactly... we have to keep in mind that the general consumer is often not as informed as some of the bloggers/posters on video game sites. I'm sure a lot of the people who visit Amazon.com for gaming needs will just see the words SALE and be oblivious (sp?) to the fact that it MIGHT not have HDMI/smaller chips... or not even interested in HDMI, for that matter.
ForceUnleashed @ Aug 9th 2007 4:52PM
Why is this important Joystiq?
Either they're doing clearance and prepping for the new round of 360's OR business is going on as usual and Amazon just wants to boost sales up...
Either way I don't see how this is a bad thing.
Christopher Grant @ Aug 9th 2007 5:49PM
Uh ... two days ago it was $70 more. Don't you think there may be some people in the entire country that just may be interested in buying one for $330?
Attila @ Aug 9th 2007 4:58PM
I wonder if all the people complaining about a lack of HDMI in the old 360s realize there's minimal difference between HDMI and component.
Jouten @ Aug 9th 2007 5:20PM
I have the VGA Adapter hooked up and it's all good. This is a Launch Day Console too (Costco Prem Bundle).
If mine should ever break down, I will try to get the latest and greatest SKU. However, my 360 isn't showing any signs of breaking down.
I wish they would come out with a VGA adapter for the Wii so I can run both Xbox 360 and Wii on a switch. I'm using an Acer VGA/DVI input 22 inch monitor because the old lady Bogart's the Living Room TV =(
The good news is, I will be upgrading to a 26 inch LCD with HDMI/VGA/Component in about a month so it won't matter anyways I suppose =P
Jake @ Aug 9th 2007 6:20PM
It doesn't matter if it does or not. The whole point is to look for any way possible to convince yourself and others that your favorite toy is better than the other toys.
Each side pops off about their product's biggest strengths while massively over-exaggerating the drawbacks of the other products.
We go around and around up and down. There is no point to the arguments. Does HDMI add a lot to a 720p console? Not really. I mean, it isn't nearly as necessary as it is on the PS3, which is also a 1080p movie player. The HDMI is nice, people want it, and MS is adding it in there. But it really isn't a very big deal. It doesn't make your games look or play any better. The primary value is in DVD upscaling and 5.1 audio convenience. Hell, only 30% of 360 owners even know the console does HD.
It is just the sad state of the losers that visit this site. I consider myself one of those losers. I try to put in valid unbiased opinions, but this site and its fanboys often get the best of me. I tend to defend the two consoles I own more than the PS3, but more than anything I try to combat really ignorant posts. It just doesn't always work out that way. ;)
Ordeith @ Aug 9th 2007 5:00PM
What's with all the PS3 Fanboy posts today?
The shame they feel having blown their money on that lousy no-game POS is just seething through in their posts.
Their number seems to have increased lately. Is this an anomoly, another failed attempt at Son¥ marketing, or just a result of the bump in sales due to the price drop?
bl13 @ Aug 9th 2007 5:35PM
You certainly sound like a level-headed individual capable of making coherent arguments. And let me be the first to congratulate you for that clever jab at "Son¥", that's totally not just as retarded as "M$".
ssuk @ Aug 9th 2007 6:37PM
Ways of invalidating your argument: Use a anti-$company slogan while making a valid point about the company.
It doesn't matter if your point is 100% correct and you're speaking sense... The fact you were stupid enough to use a slogan such as "M$", just makes your argument nulled. Why? 'cause it shows obvious bias and then people think "Well, hold on... He could be bull'in here."
So, congratulations on that.
Brad Lee @ Aug 9th 2007 5:07PM
The 360 is a goldmine as far as accessories are concerned. If someone buys a 360, it's pretty much guarenteed they'll pick up a game too, and maybe a controller, an extra battery, a battery recharge station, a faceplate...
My point is, maybe Amazon is selling them cheap because they know the extra $20 the consumer saves will probably just be used for another accessory.
Aaron @ Aug 9th 2007 5:10PM
"We don't know how long it'll last though, so you may want to act fast."
Are you referring to the deal or the XBox 360 you end up with? Burn!
Justin McElroy @ Aug 9th 2007 5:34PM
Congrats Aaron, that's The Confirmed Burn of the Day. Way to go.
Badboy1979 @ Aug 9th 2007 5:38PM
... yeah, even though I love my 360s, I had to give a positive vote to that comment... good one!
Johnny Bloom @ Aug 9th 2007 5:42PM
THAT... was actually quite clever. My good man, I applaud your comedy stylings. I'm not being sarcastic; that was genuinely funny.
Well, adieu.
Anam @ Aug 9th 2007 7:51PM
Nice one!
YouRDumb @ Aug 9th 2007 5:45PM
hey Samfish, you seem to hate Fox News (left wing nut) yet I bet you watch it all the time. All these people who comment on Fox News sure seem like they actually watch it a lot yet they hate it. If you hate it, then dont watch or comment on it randomly. Im sorry you hate the truth, so stick to CNN and the New York Times. By the way the NYtimes had a blog online today asking for people to post responses on 'if you were a terrorist, how would you attack?' http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292689,00.html And Ill bet youre a big fan of the Times. And if you dont see anything wrong with that blog then it wouldnt surprise me.
mr nimblewick @ Aug 9th 2007 6:19PM
Sorry, YouRDumb, but you are dumb if you think terrorists are watching that blog and saying, "Oh, hadn't thought of that one! Rashid, you've got to come see what 'rastybaby86' wrote!"
Foxnews is an alarmist, Tobias source of "news." It's fine if you want to watch it, but it's still crap.
Coming up... day 4560 of the Natalie Holloway story!
cc123 @ Aug 9th 2007 7:55PM
Holy crap, a Fox News fanboy!
License to ill @ Aug 9th 2007 8:47PM
Fox News Defense Force Assemble.
Or you could get a life...
Brad Lee @ Aug 11th 2007 2:54PM
I hate Fox News AND the New York Times... and CNN, and MSNBC, and ABC and...
Well you get the point. All news corps are shit. At best they're infotainment.
It's like they just connect the cable lines into a gigantic semptic tank and transmit the shit right through your TV stations. Fox News just happens to have a much more pungeant odor than most.
Knight Marquise @ Aug 9th 2007 5:54PM
LOL
I was thinking the same thing about Samfish.
DoDo @ Aug 9th 2007 6:24PM
Yet another $330 waste of money. Why people? Why? It's going to break! Tools.
mr nimblewick @ Aug 9th 2007 6:29PM
I wonder that too, sometimes. Why people keep buying a system with such a high failure rate. My genesis broke on me and I moved on.
Makes me think there must be something really attractive about the 360. I think that's actually a positive for the 360, that people care enough to buy it multiple times and keep getting it repaired.
I still don't want one, but that's just me.
Jouten @ Aug 9th 2007 6:47PM
Because it's a very nice console and there are plenty of good games out for it. XBL is another reason for its success. The competitors (Nintendo and Sony) will be hard pressed and extremely lucky if they are able to match it in its quality and content. The XBL Service is the 360's mainstay, as much as Nintendo's innovative control scheme and Sony's cannabilized best of both world's technology is.
I appreciate what all three offer and each one's direction into the future they are taking. The only thing that has held me back from getting the PS3 so far IS the price. I will just have to enjoy my Wii-360 until I can really afford a PS3 or the price drops.
I hope that even the hardest core fanboys can see that the PS3 will have some very good titles coming in the near future and like-wise, even the hardest core Sony fanboys can give credit where credit is due in that each console does in fact have something special to offer everyone.
Anam @ Aug 9th 2007 7:56PM
People said the same thing about the PS2, but I still bought one because it has the best games. It hasn't broke once, but even if it did, it would be worth buying two.
Besides, Microsoft is fixing them for free, so what do I really lose? A week or two of play time? I'm not getting any play time without one!
YouRDumb @ Aug 9th 2007 8:13PM
@cc123 and I wonder what your a fan of.... Nevermind. I think its safe to say you get your news from CNN or MTV. You're probably also a Hillary supporter. That New York Times article was probably not even covered by CNN or any other Left wing shit media outlet. And mr nimblewick, this is the age of the internet. You dont think that terrorists can access that? You dont think they are trying to come up with any way imaginable to attack us again? Hell their are terror cells already here. Not to mention, there are obviously some pretty evil americans here too that seem to not value human life. Or maybe you arent aware of that. Maybe you dont watch the news everyday and see the twisted shit that goes on. The fact that that ass clown did that in his NYT blog is shameful. Wether terrorists read it or not is besides the point. But its typical, you and your cohorts just dont get it. God help us all if Hillary is elected in 08 or any other coward for that matter.
cc123 @ Aug 9th 2007 8:36PM
You surmised not only my preference for a news source but also my political affiliation from that short quip above???
I see why you like Fox News so much...
