Bourne Conspiracy devs: this is no 'movie game'
In his article on the upcoming Bourne Conspiracy, Paul Hyman of The Hollywood Reporter poses a rather humorous question, "Is there suddenly some stigma against movie games?" Yes, Paul, there is, but it's not a sudden dread as much as it is a long history of horrific movie tie-ins, from E.T. to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Saying your project is not a "movie game" is a way of reassuring your audience that some thought will be put into its development.
The plot of Bourne Conspiracy contains elements of The Bourne Identity while adding new material approved by author Robert Ludlum's estate. Developer High Moon Studio's chief creative officer Emmanuel Valdez told Hyman that, in keeping with the theme of the movie, gadgetry will be minimal while using your environment will be important. Also taken from the films is Director Paul Greengrass' (in)famous shaky camera technique.
Notice how the Jason Bourne character doesn't resemble Matt Damon? That's going to stay that way, as Valdez said they see The Bourne Conspiracy as the start of a franchise, adding that a sequel is already being planned. Conspiracy is currently shooting for a Summer 2008 release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Yeh, 2008. Woo! One whole year to go. That's if they don't delay it.
Hitman101 @ Aug 9th 2007 2:35PM
Game looks like it needs some work. Well see how it is when it comes out.
Avatar @ Aug 9th 2007 4:26PM
That's why it's not coming out tomorrow, genius.

Looks Neat.

I don't think the average gamer has the gut spy instincts to pull off the stealth that Bourne does
also Bourne Ultimatum was FUCKING GOLD. SEE IT NOW. If you never saw the first 2, GO GET THEM, WATCH THEM ON THE WAY TO THE THEATRE, AND SEE THIS FILM.
Abscissa @ Aug 9th 2007 4:10PM
All three movies are great overall, but Director Paul Greengrass (director of the second and third movies) absolutely BLOWS at action scenes. I couldn't tell what the fuck was going on. The action scenes in the first one were great though.
soulscreme @ Aug 9th 2007 2:55PM
I want this game to be good, but I just know it won't.
OnimushaSoki @ Aug 9th 2007 3:02PM
Loved the movies(as much as I detest Moby, "Extreme Ways" is a pretty good spy movie track... especially without the vocals, LoL!), will probably read the books in October during vacation time(I know the movies aren't exact translations)... and much like STRANGLEHOLD; I'm seriously hoping the game turns out good. 9_9"
Specter @ Aug 9th 2007 5:28PM
The movies are great, the books are great. But the movies and books have as much in common as their names. 'exact translations' is an understatement. I'd go into them looking for a few good books, but don't hope for movie similarities, and expect stuff that the movie never touched. Like a lot. Like 3/4s of the books :P
Adam K @ Aug 10th 2007 10:31AM
Yeah Specter, you're totally right. I just finished reading The Bourne Supremacy last night. It was a freaking awesome book, but I couldn't believe how dissimilar the movie was. That's ok with me though, it's 2 separate story lines with the same badass owning everyone he meets.
This game might be totally awesome if they put some good work into it.
AirIntake @ Aug 9th 2007 3:26PM
Does the movie-based game have 'Riddick' somewhere in the title? No? Then it probably sucks. At least that's what I've found over the years.
baby sea tuna @ Aug 9th 2007 3:45PM
There have been others here and there. I think Riddick was the only good one with a release date that actually coincided with the movie though (maybe Spider-Man 2, as well) but there are some decent licensed games kicking around out there. I personally was a fan of 007:Everything or Nothing and I'm also pretty sure that the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer game for Xbox had one of the best fighting engines ever (look for an updated version of it in Harker.)
Anyway, my curiosity's been piqued by this. I'm a huge fan of the Bourne movies and I think that if done well, this game could kick the shit out of the new Splinter Cell.
Macroy @ Aug 9th 2007 6:18PM
Everything or Nothing?! What about Goldeneye?!?!
baby sea tuna @ Aug 10th 2007 8:45AM
Goldeneye was a given.
Also, go back and play it, it's not nearly as good as you remember it.
Cooper @ Aug 9th 2007 3:48PM
Blah blah blah, PR crap. Its a movie game, it will suck and everyone knows it, idiots/suckers will still buy it. Next.
WiNG @ Aug 9th 2007 3:49PM
The problem with most stealth games, is that the enemies are too dumb. If they weren't it would be too hard to win, i.e. real life. And most gamers don't have the patience to camp someone for 25 minutes hoping a guard will leave.
skunkworks @ Aug 9th 2007 3:50PM
funny how a Riddick based games is good but a Riddick based movie sucks heheh.

"Also taken from the films is Director Paul Greengrass' (in)famous shaky camera technique."
Just lost my interest right there.

It is a movie game a year from release. We probably don't need too many articles about it. Let's wait until 2008 and revisit their progress.
GRANTED @ Aug 9th 2007 4:37PM
the movies are too good. i'll pretend this video game doesn't exist, that way i'll maintain that warm fuzzy feeling regarding the films. like with the matrix. that was so warm and fuzzy--until the games. and the other two movies. ill stick to ignorance this time. what video game?
Deaddy @ Aug 9th 2007 4:49PM
I'm no fan of Matt Damon, but I think it hurts this title to have the lead character not resemble the movie version.
Mr Khan @ Aug 9th 2007 6:21PM
Its always possible to make a good game out of it, the Goldeneye and Spiderman-2 phenomenon is repeatable, just difficult (especially considering that the two games were good for very different reasons)
Cabcru @ Aug 9th 2007 8:08PM
Don't know about anyone else but them not springing for Matt Damon's likeness doesn't sound like they've got a great deal of faith in the game's chances.
HB96st @ Aug 9th 2007 11:09PM
Aww thats weak.. No Matt D., No buy..-waitamintue, this is based off a movie... No buy period.
t_m @ Aug 10th 2007 7:05AM
soooo... its a stealth spy game? Mmmm... well that'll be original...
