Actually, given Ubi's recent and upcoming track record, and EA's as well (Ubi's been doing a lot of crap sequels and licensed stuff, whereas EA is doing a lot of new IP, and a lot of existing IP is getting a resonably significant change) I don't think EA pushing ubi around is necessarily a bad thing.

Well, I've read a lot of complaining about this story on other sites all morning. Many of these same people said that they will still buy spore, crysis, etc...

All I have to say is that if you disagree with these business tactics, you better put your money where your mouth is and not buy any more EA products. Otherwise, shut it.

Kye?

I agree with you 100%. For some reason this will suck if a buy out ever occurs

this is def a bad thing.
EA keeps getting bigger while the quality of the games do not reflect that.
If anything, the game quality is dropping, and EA price mongers over everything.

EA is runnning the games business like any other business, which is great for their profits, but terrible for gamers.

That's the kinda feeling I have.

I'm not please with them turning off Burnout 3's servers.

If we allow that to happen each game will lose it's server as soon as the next iteration arrives.

After that it's march to their drum or get trampled.

EA is going to destroy this company, if they buy them. There are very few corporate mergers that really exercise their synergies and truly make themselves better so to speak. Since these are two gaming companies and EA is the more powerful and less talented, we as gamers are screwed.

I'm actually getting to the point where I'm not buying EA products. EA's need to acquire every competitor isn't good for the industry at all. Consolidation may be all well and good for a manufacturing company to cut costs, but for an industry that thrives on creativity, it's stiffling.

I love capitalism, in every case someone is getting screwed. It's just a fight to stay on the screwing end and not the recieving.

I really hate EA. The day when EA takes control of Ubisoft it will be the end of many great franchises.

Why exactly is this a bad thing?

And furthermore it seems like everyone has been complaining about Ubisoft for ages now. So why does it matter?

i don't think it even makes sense to buy ubisoft. they have so many game franchises that are equivalent and competing. it's kind of like when adobe bought macromedia, they basically made all of the same products and adobe just picked and choosed the best of the two competing products and discontinued the other ones (all they wanted out of macromedia was flash and dreamweaver, basically.

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing just yet. It will kind of depend on what EA would do in a buy-out. If they were going to keep Ubisoft in-tact and merely replace some key executive officers, this probably won't have a huge impact. I would hope if anything, EA would be able to leverage Ubisoft's Wii experience in their own development for titles on the system.

However if EA will be practically taking over their studios, that's kind of sad. I remember reading the story of how Ubisoft came into being, it's an interesting read. They are quite an extraordinary company considering their beginnings, even if I thought that Red Steel kind of sucked.

The only trick EA can do these days is throw money around. They've failed to step up to Ubisoft's quality, and now they're doing the only thing they know how to do: buy them. With EA's perpetual rape and Nintendo's huge push for "non-games", I fear the worst for this industry.

Gather around children and I shall tell you a tale of another little software company that was eatten by the evil EA monster. Once upon a time there was a little software co called Bullfrog Productions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullfrog_Productions) they made happy little games.
Populous (1989)
Flood (1990)
Populous II (1991)
Powermonger (1992)
Syndicate (1993)
Magic Carpet (1994)
Theme Park (1994)
Syndicate: American Revolt (1994)
Tube (1994)
Hi-Octane (1995)
Magic Carpet 2 (1995)
Gene wars (1996)
Syndicate Wars (1996)
Dungeon Keeper (1997)
Theme Hospital (1997)
Fusion (1998)
Populous: The Beginning (1998)
Theme Park World (SimTheme Park in the US) (1999)
Dungeon Keeper 2 (1999)
Aquarium (2001)
Theme Park Inc (SimCoaster in the US) (2001)

Once the EA monster had eatten them, they brought us the Sims, etc etc etc. Was it a good move for EA? Yes was a good move for the comsumers? I think not.

That makes me sad. Also, EA is pretty much responsible for the death of the Ultima series. Everything that they touche turns to shit.
