That picture is from a Borders, not a B&N. Borders never sold Catan or any of those other great board games (at least not in the five years I have worked there). That said, B&N has an even smaller selection than that nowadays, and it's just as bad.

Say, what's it like to work for Borders? I've been thinking about getting a job there. If you should reply, I say thanks.

Adieu.

It's pretty good, but the competition for a job is tough. Pay isn't fantastic, but no worse than other retail.

Hey Kakairo:

The picture is from the Harvard University Book Coop in Boston, MA, which is definitely owned and managed by Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, and thus has a lot of the same stock as other B&Ns. Last October, a number of B&Ns increased and broadened their stock of non-digital games for National Games Week.
The situation is obviously very similar at Borders, however. What made you think it was a Borders?

This comes from working there too long, but it was the sketchbook that was left on the shelf next to the Monopoly Transformers. It looks like a Borders bargain sticker is placed in the top right hand corner. Also, I spent a good portion of my day putting up the exact same type of grid shelving up near a yellow wall in my store.

Our store has almost this exact mix of titles, so that's why I was so sure. I apologize if I was mistaken.

I would like to think that a company will decide to stop selling the games the sell the most copies, but I won't hold my breath.

Yeah, that's definitely not B&N selection...that's Borders. All of the B&Ns in my area carry a much bigger variety of games than that, with a lot of quirky titles like "Dread Pirate" that are difficult to find anywhere else (well, outside of cheap-o versions you can pick up at Toys-R-Us).

Were I to suddenly have the ability to completely and utterly erase the existence one film franchise, it would be Shrek. Not only are the movies themselves terrible, but the marketing and promotion is the WORST I have ever seen, period. Every damn item imaginable has been released in a Shrek version over the last few years, which basically just means sticking that horribly animated face on the package and making the product greener than usual. At the grocery store one day I was (angrily) keeping a tally of the Shrek consumable items I passed on the shelves in my normal course through the store, and the count quickly exceeded twenty. One of the worst was Shrek french fries - Why do that??? Kids already love french fries, no need to make them a hideous green. That may have worked with Green Eggs & Ham many years ago, but in that case it was accompanied by a charming children's book that centered around the food.

And now, Shrek Scrabble. Those are the most depressing two words I've seen conjoined on a box in ages.
