Stranglehold PS3 still coming to Europe this year [update]

Update: Alright, that's enough of this "delay" rubbish. Though still due out August 27 for Xbox 360 and PC, and on September 17 for PlayStation 3 in the US, some confusion has arisen regarding the European version of John Woo's Stranglehold. Dutch site PS3 Only obtained a statement from Midway that didn't feature a release date but noted (translation via N4G) that the game is "definitely [coming] out this year." That's the news -- the misinterpretation implied a delay to the European PS3 release.

1UP confirms that Stranglehold for the PlayStation 3 has not been delayed and will retain its September 17 release date. The lack of a release date in the European Midway statement was simply due to human error (those humans are always messing things up). Our sincerest apologies for the confusion -- we've been tasked with cleaning the repeatedly destroyed fruit stalls in your favorite action film.

Lair? I thought Lair was getting crappy reviews? Have there been any official reviews for Heavenly Sword yet?

Also, Hard Boiled in HD sounds sweet.

Did you mean "extinct" lineup? LOL!! And Lair as a AAA title now that funny. POS3 owners keep wishing that their huge investment would pay off but apparently its not happening this year LOL!! But hey, isnt Big Mommas House 2 coming to Bluray? Bwahahahahahahaahahaaaaa!!!!

Yeah, Lair is supposedly pretty terrible, one of the devs even got in an argument with reviewers saying they dont understand the game because its "made for everybody"

I'll make up my own mind about Lair and HS.

After playing the demo, this delay will not be effecting my purchase.

Two potential AAA titles equal better than usual.

We'll see what happens with Lair. I hope they are tweaking the controls. That seemed to be the games only weakness based on an incomplete version of the game. Im not a big fan of motion controls for the whole game.

After playing that demo yesterday *twice* I don't wanna wait 3 weeks for this game, let alone 4 months!

Was contemplating on the ps3 version for HB, but now delayed... I'll go with the 360 version, + the 360 controller is the Only way to play FPS/TPS.

Someone over on PS3FB posted that the delay was only for Europe. Can anyone confirm this?

I played this game on my X360 and it's a BLAST. I was waiting for the PS3. Looks like I am getting it for my X360. Sucks, for some people.

I thought the demo was solid, but not spectacular. Man, the PS3 gets a lot of its games delayed. Crazy.

For Lair, the reviews were that the controls made the game not fun to play. My speculation, held by others as well, is that they delayed the game to add full analog controls so the title is playable. Hopefully it is enough.

There is something going on with all the ps3 delays. I am sorry but I am sick and tired of the lazy developer excuses. Don't get me wrong, while I think stranglehold is good base off of the demo, I don't think its a deal breaker if its delayed for the ps3. Its just that every one wants MS to come clean as to what the real reason is behind the rrod, well I want to know what the real reason is behind all the ps3 delays. I love my xbox360 and I also love my ps3 but everytime I try to show my ps3 some love with the purchase of a multiplatform title I usually end up just getting it for my 360 instead.

This is going to hurt PS3 a lot more than you might at first think. Joystiq posed the question a few days ago which system people were going to get this game for. The majority of multi-console owners were leaning towards PS3 because of the inclusion of Hard Boiled on the BD. All things considered now, many of those users will probably get the 360 version instead because the wait might be too much. This will in turn reaffirm Midway's belief that games on PS3 don't sell. You can imagine how things might snowball from here. Good times for us Sony fans.

The zany comment that was so funny, it HAD to be posted TWICE! You won't believe it the first time you read it, it needs that second read to really hook you in!

Based on the demo I thought the game was pretty lackluster. It tries to have a lot of style and character but just feels overdone and generic. A rental at best.

Although shooting a guy in the knee with the "tequila zoom" shot or whatever they called it was pretty neat.

Editor's Note: I just got confirmation from Midway that this delay only applies to Europe. The PS3 version is still on track for a 9/17 release date, while the Xbox 360 and PC version are set to ship on 8/27.

If that was the true M.O. (which implies a consistent pattern), I doubt you'd be reading the site at all. That being said, it was clearly a misinterpretation and a mistake which we've hopefully corrected -- we wouldn't be bothered with that if inaccuracy was our M.O.

If the PS3 delay is because of the inclusion of the Hard Boiled movie wouldn't only the collectors edition be delayed? Doesn't matter to me, I'm getting the 360 version and my 360 plays my Hard Boiled dvd just fine. The demo inspired me to watch the movie again last night. It's cool how the end of the demo is like the beginning of the movie.

good its still coming out on time. I'll get he ps3 version just for the Blu ray movie. When have you ever seen a $10 blu ray if you think about it since its on the same disc as the game.

Whats funny is that I do own a PS3 aka my Bluray player. But I usually buy multiplats on 360. UT3 might finally be the exception haha MIGHT!!
