Tak and the Power of the Juju may not be the best known platformer out there, but it was good enough to get its own television show on Nickelodeon. The cable channel will starting airing the new series this fall. Apparently the series revolves around Tak's inability to wield the power of the Juju properly, so he'll have lots of misfit adventures and fun.
We actually had to look this up. Turns out that Tak's last adventure was two years ago and is actually the third in the series. The games didn't get the greatest reviews and Tak hasn't made an appearance on a current-gen console -- nor have any new editions been announced. Any Tak fanboys out there want to explain the appeal of the franchise? Maybe it'll make a better television show than it did a game?

A mediocre game becomes a nickelodeon show, normally is the other way.
Who I'm kidding I wish Nickelodeon games were mediocre, at least that way they would be playable.

Actually, the Tak show has been in the works for some time:

I would have thought that Nickelodeon would have pushed for a launch closer to the games, but maybe the wait will allow both parties to recreate the property.

Yeah, the game wasn't very good, but the cutscenes would work wonders as a kids' show.

The Tak games were actually a lot of fun, really decent classic platforming. They're great family games with PG rated humor - lots of fart and burp jokes, so it'll fit right in between episodes of Spongebob. But above all you know why I'm going to tune in to this show even though its on Nickelodeon? PATRICK. WARBURTON.

The War-man? If that isn't a good reason to watch an otherwise crappy show then I don't know what is.
His best show: The Venture Bros. The Tick was good too, while it lasted. And everyone knows him because he was on Seinfeld.

As a blossoming animator who wishes to merge with the animation industry, I will make it my goal to crusade against having this man cast for any role in any cartoon ever again. Seriously, he must have voiced at least 7 characters in every animated show EACH.
And it's always the same stupid fucking looking character, with a strong upper body, no brain, aand idiot personality... God, the lack of originality in both character design and traits, as well as voice work pisses me off to no END!
*fumes*
...er... sorry for that mini-rant, I had to get that off my chest somewhere...

@ Robochamp
I can't say I've seen everything the guy has voiced, but Brock from the Venture Brothers is far from idiotic.
And sorry but I really can't disagree more with your rant. This guy made The Emporer's New Groove great. Without Kronk we would have been left with... David Spade. Yeah, nuff said.
@ Jack
This show will have nothing on Spongebob. Actually, everything on Nick has nothing on Spongebob.

Well, THQ and Nickelodeon collaborated on the games, so it comes as no surprise to me that it's becoming a show on the network.
This will probably lead to a sequel to sell to all of the viewers who will find out about Tak through the show. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It makes perfect sense, Nickelodeon really advertised the previous tak games

The only Tak game I've played I really enjoyed. I think it was the second one, and was on the Gamecube. It was pretty standard platforming with some unique quirks that made it a fun ride. It had things like mystical powerups, magic, vehicles, slash and hacking (sorta), combos, voice-over acting, and at least a decent storyline. There were some neat in-game minigames, like snowboarding, or drifting through wind geysers (vents? Whatever the fuck), fighting in drivable contraptions, flinging your little ally at people, and entertaining cutscenes. The only major downsides I remember were some unnecessarily difficult parts (all requiring certain tasks done in certain time constraints), and sloppy (but functional, nonetheless) driving. The game also some decently fun multiplayer activities, such as shooting fireballs from the running backs of Chocobo-like birds.
[[tl;dr]] Game I played was fun, TV show shouldn't be much worse than the rest of Nick's lineup.

the next gen could use some good platformers like spyro or tak or crash or something...
I think the only 360 game i have that counts as a platformer is tomb raider legend, but it's still way different than something like spyro or mario

I enjoyed the first Tak, but then again I was in the exact target age group at the time. The appeal of Tak was in its humor--it nailed the Nickelodeon style of comedy, and was legitimately funny.
I missed the second game, and was kind of underwhelmed by how weird the third was. The whole challenge setup was a lot less enjoyable than the traditional platformer.

Well I'll offer my insight having played all 3 games. My sister actually bought them for use on MY gamecube. And I think 2 was probably the best. As a previous commenter said #3's challenge system sort of took away from both the humor and the gameplay. Tak 1 was ridiculously hilarious and I found myself laughing wholeheartedly at every cutscene...("Ressurection's Revenge"...hehe, still funny) Anywho, the second one was considerably less funny but it was a huge improvement in gameplay. The trend seemed to follow in Tak 3 but the story suffered and they added that stupid challenge system. Not my cup of tea. I'd say play 1 and 2 if you like funny platforming fun. As for being a good show, kids show or not, I think it has great potential. The cutscenes were uproarious and if they're of the same high quality I'll definitely watch it.

Heh. You obviously need to learn something about the economics of voice-acting AND you need to check IMDB for the likes of Kevin Michael Richardson, Cree Summer, Michael Bell or the KING of voice acting, Frank Welker.
Patrick Warburton barely even registers on the radar compared to some of the most successful voice actors...but he does plenty of regular acting, as well. Most voice actors don't make that much, and are contractually required to do multiple voices.

Considering that the cutscenes were the ONLY good part of the game, this could actually turn out well.

The game and the show were concieved at the same time, it just took a while for the show to get made. The same guy who wrote all the dialogue for the game, Randolph Heard, is also the writer on the show.
I believe the first Tak game was actually a million-copy seller.
