Did POPY win the Dark Resurrection final by losing two of their men and beating one member of the opposing team?

Most of these videos (if not all, actually) are the second part of a two part video, as to not spam the living daylights of people.

You can click through and find first part in the playlists.

2D fighter tourney matches are always so intense. The Guilty Gear Slash games were really fun to watch. Melty Blood felt really drab, it's a great game but the fights here were pretty boring. Street Fighter TS won by Yun of course, that wasn't a real surprise.

I promised my self I wouldn't bash on Tekken.

Actually, the Evo regional tournaments had nothing to do with going to SBO. This is an ARCADE tournament, so the qualifiers had to be held at arcades that had these games. Also, the Evo regionals for Guilty Gear were Slash, not Accent Core.

Anyway, there was a tournament held at Planet Zero in Texas for Guilty Gear and some other game/s (I think 3rd Strike?). This kinda sucked because it meant that we couldn't really get a good sampling of the best players in the US. Most of the people that showed up, including the winning team were from Texas or close by (Guilty Gear at SBO is done in a 3vs3 team format). The winning team lost twice to another team in a double-elimination tournament the day before to qualify for the single elimination tournament to see who would go to SBO. The team that beat the winning team twice was eliminated by someone else. Anyway, it was because of Planet Zero that the US could send peope for Guilty Gear this year anyway, so it was cool of them, but I just don't think the US will be represented as well as it could be.

For more information on competitive fighting games, check out shoryuken.com, or for guilty gear, dustloop.com.

Half right. There were seperate SBO qualifiers for regions, but EVO East(I don't remember) I believe seconded as an SBO qualifier as well. Texas Showdown was South's, and there were two on WC.

Besides, there's HARDCORE DRAMA concerning the Texas SBO qualifiers tournament involving the arcade manager, so I wouldn't go around talking about it like this in public. Each SBO Qualifier had different games according to region, so again, you're only half right.

This is the only competitive gaming I respect. Madden tourneys are riddled with weird exploits just like FPS tourneys.

In fighting games (at least good ones) you can't get away that kinda crap.

OR CAN YOU? :D

http://youtube.com/watch?v=d90tNc8zyVc

All fighting games have little exploits that work for towards advantage. CVS2 had roll cancels. Third Strike has kara throws, stuff like that. I see what you're saying though ... what bothers me about Madden tournaments though is the random factor to it. There's always a chance that, no matter what, that dude can drop the ball thanks to stats.

lol... that picture with the girl cosplaying (if it's a girl... who knows)

reminds me of Hayao.
dude brain-f*cks you before the match by his cosplays and his selection of the uncommonly used Hugo in 3S.
he also seems to pull standing 720s out of his ass.
if a cosplayer who uses Hugo with the ability to pull standing 720s to Gigas your ass is your next match-up, i'd be pretty intimidated. not saying i'm any good at 3S of course. ;p

but yeah, tougeki is where is where you'll find the best of the best. i can only dream about being there though. heh.

Well, I'm pretty much terrible at all fighting games (save smash bros), so I comment on the quality of these games, but guilty gear was definatly the most fun to watch.

Melty Blood is going to be a lot better this year. More refined gameplay, re-balancing, and more consistency in tiers. No more infinites, yay.

like Jared said about "exploits", Melty has one too called "bara-cancels" which essentially lets you Alpha Counter into a super.

So, EVO and SBO are all about the games right? Then why is EVO 'powered by Yaris'?

"Competitive gaming" may be a dirty word to some, but unlike the spoiled brats that make up the "professional" scene, the players of the fighting game community tend to keep it real...

While there are lots of pro fighting gamers that are chill, there are *plenty* of people in the hardcore fighting community that are just as whiny. You just don't see it as much because it's a smaller amount of 'tards compared to the amount of FPS monkeys running around. But believe me, they exist.

Why the hell did they stop making these great 2D fighters in America? I miss playing these games and now they are almost nowhere to be found StreetFighter 3: 3rd Strike is still my favorite 2D fighter of all time.....so balanced.

Yah the funny part is, Bridget is a guy in Guilty Gear.

So, either way if the person is male or female, it's still humorous :P

Showdown Championships in TX has nothing to do with SBO. There were 5 tournies this year where you could earn a qualifier spot at Evo in August but that's it.

I don't know why fighters don't get more attention from the fighter community -- I hope joystiq/ign do a little more on Evolution at least this year. It's about 5000 times more interesting than Madden/FPS. And MvC2 one the most entertaining games to watch even if you know nothing about tourney play.
