Watch a delicious, 15-minute Mass Effect preview

With the delay of one big property last week, you might be a little down in the dumps about your gaming prospects in the fall. Allow yourself to be soothed by the healing power of Mass Effect, namely 15 minutes of previewing from your friends at 1UP.

There are some dialog scenes, a look at the driving mini-game and a fairly extensive sample of the character creation. Oh, and, of course, there's some good, old-fashion shooting. You don't need to hear anything else from us. Go. Watch. Delight.

Here's my thoughts:

I don't have an HDTV yet, but I am going to get one at some point in the next few years. Why wait until then to play some of the great games coming out for the 360? Hell with that!

Plus, it gives you more impetus to buy an HDTV in the future!

A game like this? Maybe. I look at getting the 360 as more of the investment than a game (as I don't have one yet). It'll be around for at least another 5 years or so, I'd guess, XBox Live is great, and there's a lot of good games out there. And it'll only get better once I get an HDTV in a year or two.

And in case you don't have a 360 already, the games still look great on a normal TV. Not at full potential, perhaps, but still good. And if the game is a lot of fun to play? Well even better.

I've played my X360 on a huge variety of TV's (some standard). The quality between HD and Standard really varies between games. For a game like Mass Effect and Gears of War, I'm sure you'll still be impressed with the graphics (even on a standard def. TV).

i had my 360 hooked up to a sdtv for about a year until i got my hdtv, i replayed just about every game i had just to play it again in hd, the difference was amazing, it was like having a new console again.

I can not wait for this to hit PC. It'll probably be delayed to let the 360 have the "exclusive" release like Gears, but that's fine by me. Good games are worth the wait, and it looks pretty slick.

i do agree, US presidential election just like the UK one unforunately is based around who can get more publicites and more tabloid newspapers or tv shows. quick IQ test just before the booth would really help and a gate on the floor leading to a learning centre for dumbasses. ok too much off topic.

This game seems to be maturing very well and hopefully take £40 out of my pocket in near future.

but no, you're right, games where you point your character and tell him to perform actions and wait to have him carry it out is exciting, complex and difficult...Stupid me, I always liked having complete control of my characters' actions and where the outcome of the game depended on skill and strategy rather than having my character equiped with super crazy weapons... look, the game was boring, it was too simple for me, and it just wasn't my type of ice cream. I was just surprised the everyone else loved the game...

KOTOR did suck. Two copies never worked in my Xbox. Kept freezing and losing my save. I didn't like the combat system anyway.

Mass Effect on the other hand. I'm digging it. I read the book. It looks like a good story. Though they did make a weird jump at the end of the book to set up the game. But whatever...

Yes, you can play as a female character. The game actually plays differently based on your gender. i.e: the way people interact with and speak to you may be slightly different in certain scenarios

I can't wait for this. KOTOR was good, sure. But these guys made Baldur's Gate II, my most favorite game in history. If it's half as good as that, I'm happy.

-story sucked
-characters sucked
-gameplay boring and retarded
-combat not that open (whatever that means...sure was fun watching my lightsaber getting blocked by SWORDS...vibrating or not)
-fought the boss, killed him on first try, in two minutes

Not too keen on the real time action sequences, Knights has a pretty spot on mix of real time and strategy/RPG style to it.

What really throws me is the whole take cover system, as if that hasn't been done to DEATH in 360 games.

Next gen = take cover ? :P

That aside, if it's even an ounce as good as Knights 1 was (Sith Lords not withstanding), this will be RPG of the year, and in the running for overall title.
