DS emulator on a PSP, just because
It might seem pointless to emulate the DS on a system that only has a single, non-touch screen but ... well actually it is pretty pointless. But it is possible, and that's all that matters sometimes.

practical? no. awesome? yes.

For Good or For Awesome.
I sir chooose awesome.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
Erwos @ Aug 13th 2007 4:02PM
It's probably more practical than you'd think. Quite a number of DS games make no real use of the touchscreen. Getting the display to fit properly on a PSP screen would be a trick, but there are a number of games where the controls would work just fine.
Truepatriot @ Aug 13th 2007 4:04PM
yup contra, the new mario i want to play those 2 most.
Admiral_Mike @ Aug 13th 2007 4:21PM
Yeah, but look how you have to hold it. It'd be damn near impossible to use the buttons in the right way.
Word of the street. @ Aug 13th 2007 5:12PM
But there was a mod that added Touchscreen to the PSP.
Wow PSP Hombrew community is always in the works.I wonde rif Sony is going to patch this.
The timing is excellent,I just got my DSL :(.My PSP and DSL are still awesome tho'.
FrankTheCrank @ Aug 13th 2007 4:04PM
Nice. But seriously, DS's are so cheap and there are so many games. Plus you lose the touch screen functionality, that's a huge loss right there.
I don't think I could be bothered. But A+ for effort.
deaftly @ Aug 13th 2007 4:07PM
i sold my ds for a psp just because i was bored with the ds, this would be pretty funny if i could have both. hell, the best ds games to me were ones that didnt even use the touch screen
mr nimblewick @ Aug 13th 2007 4:14PM
You do your icon proud.
deaftly @ Aug 13th 2007 4:44PM
There goes my nipples again!
BPM @ Aug 13th 2007 5:31PM
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass uses the Touch Screen extensively, and is easily one of the best games on the system.
(Yes, I have played the Japanese version)
PhrawzT @ Aug 13th 2007 4:30PM
One could display the screens at the same time if your turned the psp sideways. A mouse pointer could be used with the thumbnub to emulate the touch screen.
This emulator could be more practical then people are giving it credit for.
I will just stick with my DS and writable flash card. I like my PSP as well, but I'm not about to bother with this.
Captain Jody Anthony XVIII @ Aug 13th 2007 4:31PM
controls MIGHT be possible but it will never be able to be full speed
Nick Simpson @ Aug 13th 2007 4:35PM
I really doubt speed is gonna improve. DS emulators on the midrange computers are still running at 50% speed or so, and I haven't seen any improvement after maybe a year.
NintendoFanbot @ Aug 13th 2007 4:46PM
+2 hearts to the man who photoshops the pic with Shiggy and Iwata going "DS prints money!" to them holding PSP saying "It plays Nintendo games!"
...
I'll try it myself.
James @ Aug 13th 2007 4:51PM
Living up to the old saying that the PSP is only good for playing (old) Nintendo games.
pmasterfunk @ Aug 13th 2007 4:53PM
i think this is amazing.. i just need to find out where to get it
i heard something about someone working on this about a year ago

Maybe I should animate it.

lawl indeed
Word of the street. @ Aug 13th 2007 5:09PM
Just when I got my DS.....
James @ Aug 13th 2007 5:21PM
... it remains the only playable platform for DS games.
;)
BananaBoat @ Aug 13th 2007 6:20PM
I think the PSP could have been the ultimate emulator handheld, but the lack of proper work on it eventually made it what it is today. Everyone keeps stopping their emulator development at little more than proof of concept, and even the most likely candidates (like the SNES) are still poorly emulated. Then again, like every time it comes up, some noob will soon be along to contest that SNES games run perfectly, citing no examples (like how Ruka's version of the emulator just a week or so ago, got updated to finally support Link to the Past and Super Mario World running with nearly no framerate drops). I want my NBA Jam and Shaq Fu running on mah PSP dagnabbit!
Faisal @ Aug 13th 2007 6:26PM
the can probably integrate a way to use the PSP's analog stick as a "virtual" stylus for the "touch screen" for the DS emulator on the PSP
spunkyMP4 @ Aug 13th 2007 6:39PM
This could never run 100 percent of the DS's library.
Adv2k1 @ Aug 13th 2007 6:47PM
How about they do something useful with emulation. Making DS games work on iPhone.
THAT WOULD BE USEFUL, THIS IS STUPID
mr nimblewick @ Aug 13th 2007 7:45PM
THAT IS USEFUL, THIS IS STUPID, WHERE IS MY LOLLIPOP!
propanol @ Aug 13th 2007 8:51PM
This does not deserve any attention whatsoever. It's a copy and paste port of a DS emulator that doesn't even run full speed on its platform of origin (i.e. the PC). It doesn't even have a solid implementation of the controls. The PSP struggles at emulating the GBA for christ's sake, and that's much less powerful than the DS.
rokubungi @ Aug 13th 2007 10:05PM
ya do know it is technically possible to run PSP games on the DS also
idiots will say it's not possible..
but it would probably run at less than 1fpm (frame per minute) due to massive dldi memory swapping and the gap between processor power
useful? no and neither is this. it takes minutes just to get to a title screen that takes 2 seconds on a real ds.
Solid Snake @ Aug 13th 2007 10:18PM
LMFAO
You have emulated your rival. again.
PSP: -20 for unoriginality and uselessness. Rank decreased: YOU R TEH WIN OF MASTER NOOB CUP OMG LOL
Whats the PSP gonna emulate next?
the N-GAYGE?? ROFLMAO!!!!
...that made my night. thnx.
ackmondual @ Aug 14th 2007 2:27AM
Sounds as pointless as making a Wii emu, but having keyboard and mouse to act as a wiimote before one is able to plug the wiimote receiver into a converter and that converter into a USB port.
ON related news, they have PS1 emu for PPCs (Pocket PCs). Saw a vid of someone playing FF7 on it. Of course it was < 10fps, no sound, and all the FMV cutscenes had to be removed to keep the game down to a more manageable 200 to 300MB or so. Not practical, but again, proof of concept is neat to show how far tech has come a long ways
Anonymous @ Aug 16th 2007 1:23AM
The ds emulator is unuseable on the pc, much less on a psp.
chip5541 @ Aug 16th 2007 9:57AM
Why DS? The Amiga emulator is better and lets face it, teh Amiga has better games.:)
