In a remarkable display of generosity, Microsoft extended XBLA contracts to two additional contestants, Steve Olofsson of Sweden, for Gravitron Ultra, and Daniel McGuire of the UK, for Yo Ho Kablammo!, along with $5,000 (to each) and some swag. Sixteen additional finalists have been honored (in mention) over on the official contest page and could potentially be called to service if the XBLA pipeline runs dry. In all, 4,500
Microsoft's Dream-Build-Play contest fulfills a few indie devs' dreams

A pair of budding developers, one from Ontario and another from New York, has tied for top honors in Microsoft's Dream-Build-Play contest, an effort to encourage indie game makers to get on board the XNA platform. Canadian John "Ain't No Fluke" Flook and American James Silva each pocketed $10,000 and were offered Xbox Live Arcade publishing contracts for their respective entries: Blazing Birds, a robotic game of badminton origins, and The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, a morbid tale of "mayhem and revenge" (pictured above).

In all, 4,500creations were creators entered into the competition, submitting roughly 200 projects.

ARGH! What's with all the bloom everywhere. Especially on the Yo-Ho KaBlamo title screen. That was a perfect example of how NOT to use bloom. I was interested in the game until I saw that, seriously.
Adding Bloom does not suddenly make your game good, as far too many developers seem to think these days, both indie and otherwise.

How about passing those games on to us to buy? IF I have to play another demo of a sub par 80s 2d "fighter" I'll snap.

The top 4 winners were offered XBLA contracts, so they should be coming to XBLA soon. Some of the authors have made Windows demos available for download. You can find more at http://creators.xna.com/forums/

actually -- around 200 games were entered. over 4000 people registered, but nowhere near that many sent in games. I am at GameFest and heard the keynote. The games being shown here are all pretty amazing considering mostly they were done by hobbiests.

And I wouldn't expect any of these anytime "soon" they are running under XNA and none are finished games -- let alone at a publishable state. I would guess best case would be 6-9 months before you see them ont eh service. There is a lot more to an Xbox 360 game than an XNA demo - no matter how cool they look.

Dude, check out the creator of dishwasher's other games. www.totallyscrewed.net It's so crazy that he's gotten this far. I found out about him like 5 years ago when he had just finished Blood Zero (which by the way, is a TOTALLY AWESOME GAME TOO) and he had his old site. Check him out.
