Technically, in the game, the Big Daddys are the Little Sisters' slaves, for all intents and purposes.
(the Little Sister's need the protection, but the Big Daddy's need something to protect and give it commands... why else would a Big Daddy obediently follow a Little Sister?)

Because they need ADAM to live and cannot collect it themselves. It's a working relationship there.

I was impressed at the detail of the '40s Avante Garde design of Bioshock. Played the demo and felt cheated that I could no just explore the immense, underwater city.
Ah, those girls in the picture can extract whatever they want from me...grrrrr. Who's your Big Daddy?
