In the second part of the Heavenly Sword animated series we discover that the sword wielded by the Heavenly Warrior in the first part became a burden on man. Eventually, to save the power obsessed people from themselves it ends up in the hands of a tribe that would protect it.
Yup, we're definitely enjoying these little shorts. At least we can respect this type of marketing, and the art behind it, compared to Nintendo's mind-numbing Smash Bros.info drip. Maybe Heavenly Sword will reveal Sonic as a secret character in Part III of the animated series?
Is it just me or do games just borrow elements from each other (as well as other themes) and come full circle?
-Oyashima's artwork style (sp... that PS2 game with the wolf deity) -some mighty weapon - samurai jack, Legend of zelda -actraiser - some overpowered dude for wahtever reason -evil item of awesome power - .... many many games.
Bleh.... despite my rantings, if it works for the music industry and it works for movies, so be it with vid games.
It's not just games... How many fantasy books or movies don't steal something from Lord of the Rings, or ancient mythology? These days, it's impossible to say "Look, this story is completely new and unlike anything ever done before!" Everything's been done in some way or another. The best you can do is present in a new way.
It's just another spin on a concept that's been seen before, but it's an interesting one, and that's all you can really hope for.
It looks pretty good! Does anyone know where can I find a higher res. version? I been using Toon Boom and this looks pretty good, kind of like Samurai Jack blended with 300.
The first part where you claim that the story isn't unique is a valid assumption to make based on what you've seen summarized of the story.
However, when you can't claim that the story isn't epic, much in the same way I can't claim that it is epic. Why? I haven't played through the game enough to know. The story may seem to be the same old thing, but don't pass the final judgment until you give it a solid chance. Every story has one similar to it, uniqueness is kinda hard to come by.
Not trying to spark some heated debate. Just point something out.
The Samurai Jack style prequel has ruined me on the game. I liked the style and direction of Samurai Jack but I would not ever want to play it. And if Heavenly Sword isn't like this prequel shorts I will hate it even more for drawing on my nostalgia for Samurai Jack.
"Heavenly Sword was originally intended for the Xbox, but Microsoft didn't have any interest in publishing it."
That's amusing, considering the development studio behind the game, which I am related to one of the developers, tried to create this videogame for the PlayStation 2 platform but found that only the PS3 platform could manage what they wanted to create. So that just pisses on your fucked up fan-boy lies you piece of shit.
Actually, Heavenly Sword was indeed originally targeted to the original xbox. If you look around on the web you can find a video of it at E3 2005. Obviously, the game changed graphically, the main character looks very different. But that doesn't change the fact that the first viewing of Heavenly sword showed it to be a Xbox title.
I think it is sorta neat, I mean 2 or 3 minutes isn't too much of my time to spend on anime. It isn't the most original idea every, but some people will always argue there are no original ideas left.
Oh, and to jump on the poopoo fest, record lodoss war called, it wants it's demon sword back.
