Mother Brain in Metroid Prime 3? New trailer hints heavily
A new trailer for Metroid Prime 3 focuses on an awful familiar... uh, "face." That's right: Mother Brain appears front and center in "Aurora Unit," the newest preview video being featured on Wii consoles everywhere. After a number of confusing lobe-focused shots, the scene pictured above is shown, revealing the layout of Ma Brain's oh-so-famous Tourian hangout, and essentially confirming that the big boss of both Metroid and Super Metroid will at least be making a cameo appearance.
But how large a role will she play? The non-gameplay footage is labeled "Cross section of future aurora complex." Does this mean we won't be battling Mother Brain in Prime 3? Will the reconstruction of Zebes be a part of the storyline? Take a gander at the video after the break, and let us know what you think.

BNinjaC @ Aug 14th 2007 12:55PM
I really want to get hyped for MP3 but MP2 was a snoozefest and it's turned me off the 3D versions of the series. (I loved MP1 btw)
deaftly @ Aug 14th 2007 3:46PM
i totally agree 100%, i have no need to even want to play 3 now
kip @ Aug 14th 2007 5:15PM
It's odd, I also remember thinking MP2 wasn't very great compared to MP1, but I recently played MP1 and MP2 back-to-back and MP2 was way better.
kevin_s @ Aug 14th 2007 12:55PM
As long as it's not a missile-shooting brain, it's gonna be cool.
mr nimblewick @ Aug 14th 2007 12:58PM
Missile-shooting brain? I'd better get my turtle wax ready!

Metroid 1 Wii remake confirmed
Lifted 0ne 4l9 @ Aug 14th 2007 1:08PM
that would be fuckin sweet, a Wiimake of the original Metroid, remaining side scrolling but with graphics completely redone, shit they should do it with metroid, metroid 2 and super metroid, and maybe even zero mission, all redone few extra's thrown in package it up up on a single disc and i would by that on day one definatly
amost @ Aug 14th 2007 1:15PM
dude, zero mission WAS a remake of metroid 1
Lifted 0ne 4l9 @ Aug 14th 2007 2:00PM
dude zero mission was not a remake of Metroid 1 learn your shit, you could unlock metroid 1 through zero mission but it was not a remake
Jeff @ Aug 14th 2007 2:07PM
No, he's right. Zero Mission was an "enhanced remake" of the original Metroid.
From the Wikipedia entry: "As a remake of Metroid, Zero Mission's general layout is very similar to the original. However, many new items, areas, and mini bosses have been added, as well as an entirely new area near the end of the game."

It is a definition of a remake since you're going through the first game with all the updates. From landing on Zebes to take away the Metroid, battling generals Kraid and Ridley to unlock Mother Brain, to the last minute escape. Just because they added a bunch of weapons and gameplay and enhanced graphics doesn't hide the fact it is a remake.
Lifted 0ne 4l9 @ Aug 14th 2007 2:19PM
it had a different story than metroid 1, it highly involved that stuff that was the cause for the zero suit
Mighty Shockwave @ Aug 14th 2007 2:26PM
Actually, the only part of the plot that was different was the ending segment, which was just an extra segment to extend the game and explain a bit about Samas' past.
Lifted 0ne 4l9 @ Aug 14th 2007 2:35PM
no the plot evolved highly around those things that looked like 1 cell organisms that were not metroids, they had nothing to do with Metroid 1 and the story of zero mission was highly based on them.
zelder_man @ Aug 14th 2007 2:47PM
Little One you are thinking of Metroid Fusion. Zero Mission is a remake of the original with new content. I have spoken... tremble in fear.
Lifted 0ne 4l9 @ Aug 14th 2007 2:53PM
oh shit you are right my bad, and i'm definatly not a little one
Jeff @ Aug 14th 2007 4:50PM
Speaking of remakes, how about a remake of Metroid 2 to be released as a WiiWare title? That's the only Metroid game I never played, and THAT would be awesome.

Christ, spoiler that shit. Thanks for ruining it, Joystiq.
Erik Novak @ Aug 14th 2007 1:00PM
Only in a game so devoid of plot could this be considered a spoiler.
Also, will it also have King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard?
mr nimblewick @ Aug 14th 2007 1:04PM
Eggplant Wizard? I'm going to have to get my carpet cleaner ready!
Martin @ Aug 14th 2007 1:42PM
Toolbox.
baby sea tuna @ Aug 14th 2007 1:53PM
Haha, good call! That's what I thought of when I read that too.
Banners @ Aug 14th 2007 1:01PM
That's a big spoiler right there.
Blazur @ Aug 14th 2007 1:38PM
How is this a spoiler? The video is publicly available and is being used to promote the game. Seeing that familiar room layout actually entices me.
Word of the street. @ Aug 14th 2007 1:01PM
Looks cool but I'm not going to get a wii until SSBB.

That's what the portuguese subtitles on Shaft said. That he was a not good mom.
Crono @ Aug 14th 2007 1:06PM
How is this joystiq's fault? Its in the freaking video Nintendo put on their Metroid 3 Channel! It really must not be that important if its in the trailer, and/or something revealed early on in the game.
Almack64 @ Aug 14th 2007 1:11PM
Exactly
Prof_Chaos @ Aug 14th 2007 2:27PM
I think the Metroid Prime series are prequels to Metroid. Therefore we probably won't see Mother Brain, but Aurora. According to the video this is an advanced computer that probably gets co-opted by Space Pirates and becomes Mother Brain.
The game certainly isn't a 3d remake of Metroid since I don't remember traveling to other planets in that game. I'm really looking forward to this.
captainawesome @ Aug 14th 2007 2:55PM
There's an official timeline, it goes Metroid/Zero Mission>Prime series>Metroid 2>Super Metroid>Metroid Fusion. The "Future facility" thing is referring to Super Metroid, it has the exact same mother brain layout as the video, including the background.
jorojoserojas @ Aug 14th 2007 4:16PM
They are prequels. Showing Mother Brain in the channel video is akin to showing the plans for the Death Star in the Star Wars prequel. It does happen eventually.
Skippy @ Aug 14th 2007 5:02PM
The narration at the start of the video starts "Two decades ago..." so it appears that that part of the video is essentially historical information about the construction of the brain network. It doesn't necessarily mean that Metroid Prime 3 actually takes place at that time.
Scott Jon Siegel @ Aug 14th 2007 2:37PM
It's content that's in a trailer that's on your Wii right now. Not much of a spoiler if Ninty wants everyone to know about it.
Also, nobody's complaining that Pokeyman Trainer's announced as a character in Brawl, right? It's on par w/ that, I feel.
Princess Skittles @ Aug 14th 2007 1:14PM
Thanks for ruining what would have been the best surprise of the game. I've been avoiding any and all information on this game and you just killed all those months of ignoring trailers and previews in one fell swoop. Congratulations.

whymog @ Aug 14th 2007 1:17PM
Since when has Nintendo been known to release secrets or spoilers on its games? Think about the shroud of secrecy that every Zelda game has been held under during its development.
This is more to get people excited, I bet, and not so much Retro saying "ZOMG LAST BOSS HERE"
Princess Skittles @ Aug 14th 2007 1:27PM
True. But, in the case that it is more than a passing reference or side note, I'd be upset at seeing that posted as a headline on a news site.
shivr @ Aug 14th 2007 1:12PM
Likely, it is not mother brain but the origins of such a thing? It says in the video there are tons of these super computers all over the place, mother brain could have just been one of them (that was all corrupted like)...
Mighty Shockwave @ Aug 14th 2007 2:32PM
The data log tells us that the first Aurora unit was developed 20 years ago by Federation scientists; Mother Brain was built centuries (perhaps even millenia) ago by the Chozo.
shivr @ Aug 14th 2007 2:50PM
ahh chozo. Shows you my extent of metroid universe logic right there :)
whymog @ Aug 14th 2007 1:16PM
I'd love to see how Retro handles a Mother Brain boss, if that's what they're hinting at. Doesn't seem like much of a spoiler, either - if anything I'm just that much more excited for the game.
Gambit @ Aug 14th 2007 1:17PM
If it says that it's a cross section of future aurora complex, then what the hell does the reconstruction of Zebes have to do with anything? Did you ever think that maybe the Metroid Prime series takes place before the other Metroid games?
Crono @ Aug 14th 2007 1:22PM
Metroid Prime series takes place after Metroid (1/Zero Mission) and before Metroid 2. Thats why there are still a bazillion metroids flying around everywhere.
Skippy @ Aug 14th 2007 5:05PM
While it may be a "future Aurora complex" the narration right before that begins with "Two decades ago..." and then goes on to explain the Aurora plans. We're being shown historical information, that "future Aurora complex" is in the past.
Matt @ Aug 14th 2007 1:19PM
Vader is Luke's Father, Gandalf doesn't really die and Dumbledore bites it.
Oh yeah, *SPOILER*, btw.
Crono @ Aug 14th 2007 1:30PM
you were OK until that last one.
I actually had that book spoiled for me by a friend of mine who was making a joke about someone spoiling that book. The irony was thick.
