You know, it's one thing to...liberally borrow from the competition (everybody does it), but it's another thing to borderline outright rip off the competition like this.
Which, admittedly, is kind of what Sony has always done, but still...

This has been in the home beta for a while already. Though, when you select the gamer card option, nothing happens. I thought it was my system but I guess its not finished yet. I really don't care for a "my profile" of sorts but if it means selling more PS3 then I'm all for it.

No, there's a space between "Gamer" and "Card". See?

Personally, as a 360 owner, I could care less about what Sony does to improve their online service. By the time Halo 3 comes out, it won't matter.

And I'm not saying that to be a Halo fanboy, I'm saying it because everyone else will be too busy playing the game to care less about what Sony's doing, save for the few that swear they'll never play a 360 ever, "Because it sucks."

Mmhmm.

It's shit like this that makes me question if I should still keep my PS3. There is absolutely NOTHING compelling about it so far, and it doesn't help matters that Sony can't seem to come up with something new by themselves. If MGS4 goes multi, I'm selling this brick.

BAK8807 i dont think you own a PS3 but if you do sell it one less person wont matter i dont need people crying when im online. when you start seeing good games and your sitting there with only an 360 you'll start crying aw man i cant belive i sold it. Sure buy a 360 and Get Halo3 and Mass Effect then Play Bio SHock on your PC thats cool. but i rather save take the money that aint being used on buying games and invest in a 360 instead of crying, but thats just me.

I don't think you own a 360, because if you did, you would understand that all you're saying is bullshit. The holiday lineup for the 360 is the PS3's downfall. PS3 has done nothing innovative for the gaming community or the development of games themselves- other than further complicate them for no real gains.

Here, I'm going to quote myself here...

"BioShock, Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Halo 3, Ace Combat 06, TimeShift, Fable 2, Project Gotham Racing 4, Stuntman: Ignition, Sega Rally Evo, and Halo Wars (not really looking forward to it, but its going to be solid non-the-less).

Not to mention the games we already have (even before the release of the PS3 versions if there are any) DiRT, Forza Motorsport 2 (rapes GTHD, GT5, and GT in general in every way possible), Gears of War, Test Drive Unlimited (may be old, and may be on multiple systems, but it isn't on the PS3, and has the best online community of all the platforms, not to mention the most downloads and is a very original and fun driving game), Command and Conquer 3, Crackdown, Dead Rising, Quake 4, the better versions of CoD3 and Oblivion, Call of Duty 2 (the best version, too), Prey, and the shitloads of amazing arcade games. When Quake 3 Arena is released on XBLA, the shit has hit the fan for the PS3- Hell, in all practical views, it already has."

The PS3 CAN NOT compare.

I wouldn't doubt that you're Chad Wardenn.

Sorry Zeus. You are wrong. The PS3 outclasses your 360 holiday lineup for the simple fact that most of your said titles will end up on PC too. The rest you can have. You won't buy them, they are just your amo. PS3 exclusive means 95% PS3. 360 Exclusive means PC too!!!!!!

Without the failure rate.

Sorry, fanboy, but whether it is going to PC or not is not the issue, as most people who buy these consoles are people who are not interested in PC games, so as far as they are concerned, its exclusive.

Now, whether its coming out on PC or not, its still not going to be out on PS3, and it may take you time to come to grips with that, but the PS3 cannot compare to the 360. It has no games- and that is what counts.

I really hope this works like the gamertag, with a display of your achievements across loads of games. It was one of the best things about the 360 (before mine died).

The gamertag and gamerpoints system brought a whole new dynamic to your games. Suddenly, you were doing really odd things in games to get points. You would get more enjoyment out of titles to get those precious points. Even average games would seem a lot more fun.

BRING US THE GAMERCARD NOW!!! YAY!!

Sony, please finish making PSN identical to LIVE so I can stop paying this silly $4/month bill. I like the progress you are making. Using "gamercard" instead of "gamertag" is an awesome touch. Just hurry up, please.

Sincerely

Jake.

I'm not upset just because Sony is copying MS. I'm upset because I own both consoles, and if they're both going to end up being the same there's no fucking point to it, and it's all Sony's fault I spent over $500 on a copycat system.

You know how MS decided to go with Live and the whole personalization thing? And how Nintendo went with waggle controls? Sony came up with nothing. They just threw in half-assed versions of both features, and a Blu-ray player (which I've yet to even use). I said, okay whatever, I'm sure it will get better and Home will turn things around, but it's just Xbox Live with a touch of Sims thrown in. As for the games themselves, I am not overly impressed. BioShock looks much better than anything I've played on PS3. It was the first game I actually confused CGI with in-game.

i really dont see the big deal... its not like Microsoft has the
patent on an Online Profile or something like that.Thats like
claiming everyone is ripping off of MS because you can Download games
on a console... or play online.MS didnt invent ANY of that, gaming on
consoles has been around since the Super nintendo days in some form
or fashion and most the "originality" MS is unveling on the home
consoles has been a part of the PC community for years. So i dont
think its fear to bash one company over another simply because they
implemented the idea first.Whats next? criticising a console maker
because they use a dual analog controller or have multimedia features
too?

But there are major differences between PC's and Consoles which is why Xbox Live is viewed as innovative...There has never been a full online community on a console...One of their keys to making the experience work was the Gamertag...Sony saw that and they are taking it big whoop they've been doin it for....actually since the Playstation was a brand

They could have at least called it something different to gamer card, like "view user profile/card/passport" rather than steal gamer card which is widely known(amoung 360 users) to be a XL thing.

Zeus,

"The holiday lineup for the 360 is the PS3's downfall: BioShock, Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Halo 3, Ace Combat 06, TimeShift, Fable 2, Project Gotham Racing 4, Stuntman: Ignition, Sega Rally Evo, and Halo Wars (not really looking forward to it, but its going to be solid non-the-less)."

You really only listed 6 games. Stuntman and Sega Rally are cross-platform. Fable 2, Alan Wake, and Halo Wars aren't coming out this year. Even if they were, I don't think the above list compares to:

Warhawk, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Unreal Tournament III, Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, NBA 2K8 (1080p, 7.1, motion controls), Everyday Shooter, Singstar, Pain, and Wipeout HD.

I'll grant that Bioshock is cinematic, but it looks fairly crap on my 60" SXRD - the color depth of the game is too limited and the lack of uncompressed audio really cripples the audio. It certainly looks and sounds worse than either Stardust HD or Blast Factor: Advanced Research, both sub $10 PSN games.

I prefer true high def games (that includes video AND audio) and, in that arena, 360 CAN NOT compare.

Yeah, I mean when I was in the middle of shitting my pants the first time that big daddy showed up in the demo, I stopped to think, "Wow, this game would be so much better with uncompressed 7.1 audio!"

Get a life, dude.

Are people trying to say that "Gamertag" and "Gamer Card" are similar or is there something called a Gamer Card on the 360 that I forgot about?

Indeed, there is a thing called a Gamercard. Gamertag is the name of your online user, and Gamercard is a thing that sums up all your Live information on a small little card (which is viewed on screen). Every XBL user has one, and you can view anyone's either on your xbox or on xbox.com.

Everyone, just shut up and play for cryin' out loud. If one system is so "far" superior than the next, what are you all doing arguing on the internet? Come on... I think there's something we can agree on... We all obviously like our PC's the best. I own all the "next gen" systems and all of them have their faults, all of them have their advantages. Let's get off the "copying" subject. I guess all console manufacturers could be accused of copying, eh? They were not the first, nor will they be the last to make gaming consoles. Nintendo and Sega (just to name two) already had several consoles out before MS... Sony had two out before MS brought the Xbox. Hmm... Oh no! MS copied them? What about online multiplayer! Uh oh! I remember playing command and conquer on the computer through a 14.4 dial up connection. I know I made an example of MS, but still... everyone... EVERYONE can be accused of copying. Time can be better spent than arguing about which console is better and which company did "it's" thing first. There's a fanboy convention in hell... and you're all invited.

If you think Sony got big from copying and then think that Microsoft DIDN'T get big from copying. Ok lets see here. Who created the mouse... APPLE. Who copied the mouse... Microsoft! Who created the keyboard... APPLE! Who copied the keyboard... Microsoft. Who created the iPod... Apple. Who copied the iPod... Everyone! You just made the worst point of your life by saying that Sony copied everything to get big. While Microsoft overhear has never innovated anything in their life. Vista is even a blatant copy of Mac OS X Tiger. Just 3 YEARS TOO LATE!!! When Leopard comes out in October, Windows will be falling behind in technology again!!!
