Madden '08 Xbox 360 vs. PS3 comparison video
Now, it's very difficult to get a proper grip on how much of a difference the two console's respective frame rates bring to the presentation in this video, because the video goes at its own frame rate, so whatever that's set at is what you're watching. Essentially, you're just looking at whatever pops out as being different. What do you all think?
Update: We added GameVideos comparison video after the break.

Oh yeah, that video is definitely much better. The part where you can really tell is right at the end when it shows them side by side slowed to 25% speed.
Brian manning @ Aug 16th 2007 1:13AM
how many times will you guys rub it in ps3 owners face that the 360 version is better???
lets see which console would overheat first.
Spider-Pig @ Aug 16th 2007 1:18AM
Sure. While we are at let, lets see which console will sit on store shelves for months.
Lets also see which console gets outsold by the fucking gamecube during its first year.
Lastly, lets see which console lost the most exclusive to the competition.
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 16th 2007 1:24AM
Spider Pig. Spider Pig. Does whatever a Spider Pig does. Spin a web... I wasn't humming out loud in a coherent way. No siree Bob I sure didn't.
Anonim @ Aug 16th 2007 2:11AM
As long it takes, Brian ;)
Problem it's not only Madden...

"The PS3 difference.: Sadly, just like with NCAA Football 08 and All-Pro Football 2K8, PS3 owners are stuck with an inferior version of Madden. While the game runs at 60 frames per second on Microsoft's box, Madden only clocks in at 30fps on Sony's console. The result? The gameplay isn't nearly as smooth as the 360 version and even stutters at times (see the difference in this comparison video). And that's the reason why we're scoring the PS3 edition slightly lower."
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/812/812702p1.html
"For PS3 owners, this isn't as exciting. Madden 08 runs (sometimes) at 30 frames per second. It makes a huge difference, as you lose a lot of the subtleties in the animations. There are plenty of framerate hitches that will likely frustrate players. This can cause a lag in the Hit Stick sometimes. And, let's face it, no one wants to see a runningback pause for a second in mid air as the framerate stutters. You can still play and mostly enjoy Madden, but beware that on PS3 the game does not run smoothly."
"Closing Comments
Madden NFL 08 on PS3 is no a great game. It is a shadow of its cousin on 360. Though the feature set is identical, the drop to an unstable 30fps hurts considerably. The visuals and the gameplay suffer. If you are a real Madden nut and think you can fight through the framerate issues, Madden is an overall good game. It just doesn't run very well."
And MANY other PS3 ports - RSX is weaker than X360 GPU and framerate is main problem with PS3.

I don't notice to much of a diffrence but I think we could if they had a played them on seprate tvs and kept them both in camera shot doing the exact same moves. Personally I think the 360 version looks better. Also Brain Manning I think the 360 fans should be able to make true comments about the PS3 as much as the PS3 owners trash on the failure rate of the 360. By the way didn't the PS2 have a very high failure rate and break easily? And look at that system it ended up winning last gen.
Aberu @ Aug 16th 2007 9:38AM
@Anonim: Wow display some more blatant spin why don't you. Out of those 3 examples of "other games" you showed, 2 were Madden '08 (that we are talking about and EA accepted personal responsibility due to less time with the console), and the other was near the release of the PS3 which leads me and others to believe that would probably be the same situation like with EA on Madden.
Let's look at some near-launch sports titles on the 360. Not too impressive eh? Let's compare Gears of War to Resistance if everyone is saying the RSX is so much weaker than the XBOX 360 GPU as many claim. All these first few games are not pushing the system, the fact is, developers can make any game run at 60 fps if they work for it like they work for it on the 360. This is just like the complaints when the PS2 came out, and Dreamcast games looked better, despite it's inferior hardware. Maybe, JUST MAYBE, it's because people have been able to program on it longer? Maybe? Fanboy less thx.
mattclarkie @ Aug 16th 2007 9:51AM
In the Gametrailers one the PS3 colour was wrong, while in the Gamevideos is was not. I smell a bit of bias there.
Also Quake 4 as 360 launch apparantly had terrible framerates compared to the PC, but I rarely noticed it.
So just drop the whole argument.

flameofdoom666 @ Aug 16th 2007 1:14AM
I hate realistic sports games, but the 360 one seems a bit better. Not to much. It seems more vibrant and a better framerate, it is not drastic.
forevervac @ Aug 17th 2007 1:09PM
Of coruse somebody with a METROID logo (ie nintendo nerd fan) would say that. Not surprised
Word of the street. @ Aug 16th 2007 1:16AM
I believe a Madden 07 vs Madden 08 comparison is more needed.
IMO the x360 version looks more colorful, the PS3 version I dont know if it is suppose to be like that but it looks all dusty, like if there was a smoke screen or something.
In a second thought the shadows and lighting effects in the Ps3 version look a bit better than the x360 not by much tho'.
kagai @ Aug 16th 2007 1:26AM
Yeah, I think the 360's colors are brighter (better in my eye) and I think the backgrounds look sharper in the 360 version. What are you going to do, it's EA!
Zeus the God @ Aug 16th 2007 1:50AM
Its not just EA. Its Oblivion, CoD3, and Project 8. The PS3 versions of all games look more "washed out" than their competition's counterpart.
Its a Sony type thing, it was the same with the PS2 as well.
Word of the street. @ Aug 16th 2007 11:13AM
You mean activision?,I dont remember the name of the company behind Oblivion.
Grindstone @ Aug 16th 2007 1:18AM
The Xbox 360 version is way better. Oh, wait, you want me to watch a comparison video before I say which is better? Ugg, stifle the console war a little...
Rare Hare @ Aug 16th 2007 1:18AM
I don't know, I think I'd really have to play both versions to know for sure. It's pretty hard to tell from that video.
PSN: ummfada @ Aug 16th 2007 2:55AM
What about the Wii version?
Wii version has Michael Vick Nintendog-fighting
Rare Hare @ Aug 16th 2007 9:05AM
Pfft. Nice. :p
EihBeir @ Aug 16th 2007 1:20AM
What do I think? I think this is exactly what nobody was talking about when the 360 launched so much earlier than the PS3. The only thing people were concerned about was the installed base....no one ever thought about the development side of things.
Jake @ Aug 16th 2007 1:35AM
Yes, PS3 games seem stuck somewhere between where the 360 is getting now and where the 360 was getting at this point in the PS3's life. Technical prowess was supposed to be an advantage of launching a year late the way it was with the PS2 over the Dreamcast and the Xbox over the PS2. It just doesn't seem to be panning out yet. Perhaps sometime next year it will.
I think Sony may be regretting its decision to use the cell processor when it comes to all these dev issues. Bluray I think they are very happy with including for many reasons, but the cell isn't exactly taking off in industry the way bluray has and it is holding games back, even if only slightly. The cell is rather expensive and they could have gotten a great, and more PC-like, triple core processor instead.
Ah, but what the hell would I know anyways?
Zeus the God @ Aug 16th 2007 1:53AM
Cells really aren't that great anyway, not the one in the PS3 anyway... They really watered it down.
Jake @ Aug 16th 2007 1:26AM
You can't really tell from a small low-res video that doesn't run at 60fps even. You need to see the actual game on each system, which most of us haven't. Those who have claim the difference is considerable, even leading to the PS3 version being rated quite a bit lower.
All this video shows is that the 360 version is a bit darker and more colorful. You can rest assured that the difference between 30fps and some stuttering and flawless 60fps is considerable, but you sure can't see it on that crappy video. Too bad 60 is rarely achieved in games I like. :(
I mean, this video really is pointless other than to have another opportunity to make wiggly deer antlers and taunt nanna nanna boo boo at PS3 fanboys.
weshickey @ Aug 16th 2007 1:31AM
Can we all just finally agree that the 360 wins this generation? It's time for Sony to count their loses and start on the PS4
AgentESPIO7 @ Aug 17th 2007 2:04AM
Yeah, I do think the 360 will win this generation. But when the PS4 comes out, I bet Sony will learn from their mistakes and make a better console... And I really hate to admit that, seeing as I'm a big 360 fan.
Blak Knite @ Aug 16th 2007 1:31AM
360 does look better. But in the end, it doesn't matter. The PS2 version is going to outsell both the 360 and PS3 versions combined!
Sad, but true...
Wonderless Wii @ Aug 16th 2007 2:34AM
QTF!
Even though the 360 version does look much much much better...
Jake @ Aug 16th 2007 8:29AM
The PS3 version could very well outsell the 360 version in the US. Madden seems to be more popular on Playstation.
Brian manning @ Aug 16th 2007 1:32AM
wheres the gc, wii, xbox , ps2 video??
Spider-Pig @ Aug 16th 2007 1:34AM
I'm pretty sure no one gives a damn about them.
Rare Hare @ Aug 16th 2007 1:45AM
Who cares?
Brian manning @ Aug 16th 2007 1:37AM
the wii is next gen right? im sure someone wants to see how it fairs against the xbox version.
Brian manning @ Aug 16th 2007 1:37AM
the wii version is even 60fps right?
Spider-Pig @ Aug 16th 2007 1:39AM
The Wii version is essentially the PS2 version with motion sensor controls, so I would hope so.
Rawtoonz @ Aug 16th 2007 1:39AM
its peter moores fault!!
Hiroken @ Aug 16th 2007 1:51AM
The PS3 version looks a little more saturated, but not necessarily worse, to me. To be perfectly, seriously honest, I can't say one of these is any better than the other. At least not by the videos.
~
NoHitHair @ Aug 16th 2007 2:11AM
Why does it matter which version is better? It's Madden. There are only two groups of people that give a rat's ass about this "news":
a) fanboys grasping at any possible chance to bash the opposing camp.
b) contemporary sports gamers, generally people too rich and equally bored who bought a gaming system because they believed it would be just like actually playing Monday Night NFL.
ericdrum @ Aug 16th 2007 9:24AM
LOL. Anime guy making fun of sports fan guy. Oh the irony...
Guybrush Threepwood @ Aug 16th 2007 2:11AM
The Xbox 360 version looks and plays better than the PS3 version, and lazy EA is to blame.
I think we all get it.

JeffM @ Aug 16th 2007 2:35AM
Maybe it's just me... but how the hell do you make decent comparisons using online videos and having no information on the capture method and other variables... as a next-gen console fence sitter this type of information would be interesting. The frame rate illustration seems to make a clear play for the strength of the 360, but then again the presentation of data is almost always more important than the data itself.
hotnutz @ Aug 16th 2007 11:24PM
lol - this is joystiq. You don't need to prove anything on here. This isn't news, it's flame war disguised as a gaming site!
RemzVkru @ Aug 16th 2007 2:40AM
I'll be honest, I have played both versions and regardless of all this 30fps and 60fps nonsense, they feel the same to me the only difference really is the 360 is darker and the ps3 is brighter. To say the game play is hindered on ps3 is just absurd seriously people just play the damn game on whichever system you have it's the same shit!!! what does hinder the game is everyone talking about the difference which gets stuck in your mind and therefore alters the game play so please everyone shut the hell up with this already!
0ldb0y @ Aug 16th 2007 6:58AM
Agreed - quite a sound comment.
There really isn't much to say. They're slightly different, and both are playable. No other grand conclusions to derive.
Snukadaman @ Aug 16th 2007 2:42AM
i have been playing this game for about 4 hours now and i can say it is faster then 2007 version and better. people say that 30 fsp dont make a difference but im sorry its about speed. you can see it in the video its like creeping a bit in some places. And like the commentator says its hard when your hitting the hitstick and theres a bit of a lag. I have said what would of been better, delay the game or release it at 30fps,EA was screwed anyway it went. I do remember someone talking about the G4 special on Madden for the ps3. What happend?
J @ Aug 16th 2007 2:45AM
neither look "next gen". sorry fanboys. arguing over which craptacular version is better. haha
bonzy11 @ Aug 16th 2007 4:56PM
I can clearly see the difference in the G4 video.
/are the PS3 colors really that washed out?
