Ever since we heard Beautiful Katamari was headed to 360-land, we've dreamt about the various multiplayer modes and options. We wondered, would our multiplayer be straight up co-op rolling or would we get some other new goodies? Well, Namco has put our anxiety ridden brains to rest, officially detailing what Beautiful Katamari's multiplayer will entail including a gametype called Thingy Battle. For the curious, Thingy Battle pits four Katamari rollers in a battle to see who can get the most of one specific object (chosen by the King of All Cosmos) in their Katamari and, as a result, feel the King's love. Other gametypes include trying to get your ball to reach 10,000 degrees Celsius by rolling over hot objects while avoiding cold ones and an Everyone's Katamari mode that keeps track of every object you've ever rolled up ... ever. Yes sir, Beautiful Katamari will be the best multiplayer version to date. Now only if we could get used to that tricky control system.

Tricky control system? It's probably one of the easier games to control once you get the basics down. You never played the PS2 versions?

What's tricky about the controls? It's one of the more simply controlled games ever made.

the control system is different to most average games yes, but if it wasn't layed out the way it is, the game wouldn't be 1/4 as good as it is.
Its the controls and accuracy of movement that make this game. If you just controlled the katamari with a single analog stick, super monkey ball style, it would be terrible.

Just pretend you're the Prince.
Left stick equals left hand. Up pushes forward on the left side of the katamari, down pulls back. Same goes for the right stick.

I can't wait for this game.
Hopefully the final product will fix the thing about the ball not reacting to what it picks up. (ex: when you pick up a cow, it doesn't effect on how the ball rolls).

This game reminds me of the weird arcade cabinet that sat in the corner unplayed at Chuck E Cheez (then Showbiz Pizza) when I was a kid. I like quirky games, but this is definitely niche. I'm really curious to see how it sells.

I never liked ranked games, so something that tracks the items you've rolled doesnt sound like something im going to find err great.

Multiplayer is the only reason I'm considering buying this for the 360 since it doesn't look like the core gameplay has changed at all from the ps2 and psp games. I loved it when it first came out, but it's gotten a bit stale with each successive outing...

Am I the only one that finds the name "thingy battle" hilarious?

I've never played any previous iteration of this game either. Yet I find myself unable to quit playing that demo.
Maybe its the hypnotic music

Is the demo still OXM exclusive or what? I'd love to try this but I'm in the UK.
Is it out on the US Marketplace too? I could download it then, if, say - hypothetically of course ;o) - I had a US account.
