Today in Joystiq: August 16, 2007
Flickr user Kiwi Frenzy on Location is restoring a 1992 Addams Family pinball machine -- which is, needless to say, insatiably cool. If you leave one (and only one) comment on this post, we'll pick someone at random and give the winner a hearty handshake and a pat and the back.* Check out the highlights for today:

Wow that is one of the coolest pics I have seen in a while.Nice :D
Pinball a great game that makes a lousy videogame.
mr nimblewick @ Aug 17th 2007 12:10AM
Sonic Spinball. 'Nuff said.
BPM @ Aug 17th 2007 1:25AM
Kirby's Pinball Land and Pokémon Pinball (both the GBC original and the GBA sequel) rocked as well as Sonic Spinball.
Metroid Prime Pinball's pretty damned good, too.
Word of the street. @ Aug 17th 2007 11:57AM
No not even those.Metroid pinball c´mon, for metroid standards that game is pretty lame.
Sonic pinball was good but is not the best in the series.
I havent played kirby.
Anni @ Aug 17th 2007 12:14AM
I think that I deserve a handshake and a pat on the back because I tied my shoes all by myself today. Thank you for considering my application.
vidGuy @ Aug 17th 2007 12:16AM
Awesome. I have Cue Ball Wizard and Barbwire machines in my basement in mint condition but I've always been looking for an old school Kiss or Playboy machine. Addams Family is cool but damn, that board has a lot going on in it.
KnightRicer @ Aug 17th 2007 12:17AM
So I was wondering, if I win are you guys gonna fly me out there or are you gonna come down here, cause I could sure use a vacation.
jesus_bon_jovi @ Aug 17th 2007 12:21AM
jesus! i had never seen the underside of a pinball machine... scary...
AlloyNES @ Aug 17th 2007 12:45AM
Nice! I've always wanted one of those... ^_^
Brett Hattaway @ Aug 17th 2007 12:57AM
That was a good one...Simpsons as well.
Pyronite @ Aug 17th 2007 1:02AM
I used to love this game. There's nothing like the multiball "It's SHOWTIME!" going off while you have a crowd around you.
Zach @ Aug 17th 2007 1:16AM
oh adams family...memories
Shawn @ Aug 17th 2007 1:24AM
Ah the joys of working on your own pinball machines. I have two myself, a Twilight Zone and a Indiana Jones. They are fun to have, but pain to work on....
Ulf5 @ Aug 17th 2007 7:13AM
DAYUM!!! the cheapest Twilight Zone ive foud near me is over $4500 I had a SEGA Frankenstein machine that i had to sell because of a move now im pinball-less :(. Always wanted to get my hands on a Creature from the Black Lagoon machine, now THAT is a kick ass machine!
baby grand @ Aug 17th 2007 9:31AM
Those are two fantastic machines you have. you are one lucky fellow.
BPM @ Aug 17th 2007 1:26AM
Addams Family and Twilight Zone were my favorite pinball machines of all time. A local pub & grub used to have both of them, one at a time. I can't tell you how many quarters I've plunked into them.
delldude420 @ Aug 17th 2007 1:32AM
i used to have that pinnball machine, but lost it when the house got flooded in the hurricane in 2005 :( and yes it was an awesome pinball machine.
Noshtzy @ Aug 17th 2007 1:34AM
As long as you wash your hands first.
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 17th 2007 1:36AM
Ahh the Today in Joystiq pat on the back. I remember when I got a pat on the back from Justin on one of these. I'm too lazy, I mean tired to go search for it though. I loved the silly Super Mario pinball machine just cause it had Mario. I loved the Addams Family and Star Trek pinball machines. Sonic Spinball doesn't quite feel like a full Sonic or pinball game but I did beat it fair and square. Metroid Pinball with Rumble is sweet and my all time favorite. Someday I might get Devil's Crush and see what that's about.
AgentESPIO7 @ Aug 17th 2007 1:39AM
I don't have a good experience with those Addams Family machines. Almost every one I've been to have eating my quarters...
I think that is deserving a pat on the back and a handshake, Joystiq.
AgentESPIO7 @ Aug 17th 2007 1:59AM
...I'm doing horrible in grammer today. Sorry.
michas_pi @ Aug 17th 2007 1:59AM
I can has pat on back?
konajinx @ Aug 17th 2007 2:00AM
My only complaint with the Addams pinball was that there was no ball rescue timer, and this thing was notorious for shooting the ball out right between the flippers or towards the outlanes. Even happens in pinmame. Gotta love the realism in the ROM!
RichChap @ Aug 17th 2007 2:05AM
*adams family theme*
Woosh, awesomest pinball machine ever. EVEN MORE AWESOME THAN TWILIGHT ZONE PINBALL? *twilight zone theme* maybe...
mccomber @ Aug 17th 2007 2:16AM
Supernice! Every so often I get all nostalgic for the days of actually going to the arcade and start searching ebay; this is one game that I always look for. Someday...
Poisoned Al @ Aug 17th 2007 3:59AM
Hey, I remember the Addams Family machine when the local arcade wasn't total shit! I loved that thing, mostly because it was relatively easy to get a multi-ball, and it was bloody awesome when you did!
TG @ Aug 17th 2007 4:30AM
I've been wanting one of these machines for years, I just don't have any place to keep it in my small apartment. I spent an entire summer as an arcade rat playing this, Whirlwind, and Mortal Kombat.
Gavin @ Aug 17th 2007 4:36AM
The Adams Family pinball machine was right up there with Funhouse, Terminator 2, and The Twilight Zone. Those were some of the best pinball machines of that era. Also good were Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Star Trek: TNG, and of course later the Attack From Mars machine and it's sequel. Oh, and there was an Elvira machine I also liked. Damn...I miss those days. It was really the last gasp of a great gaming era. Pinball was the shiznit.
shivr @ Aug 17th 2007 4:52AM
The handshake I want. The pat on the back I could take or leave.
Cluckyx @ Aug 17th 2007 5:38AM
It's always one of those things you HAD to have when you were a kid. A pinball machine in your own home. They always had one in the movies *stares off dreamily*
Ulf5 @ Aug 17th 2007 7:06AM
Bride of Pinbot used to be my favorite back in the day until I played this!! ahh the memories :(
32_Footsteps @ Aug 17th 2007 7:32AM
The Addams Family is probably my all-time favorite table. Restoring one of those deserves full respect and more than a little jealousy. Wonder if that guy will follow up with fixing up an Attack From Mars table next. I still don't know what's my favorite thing from a pinball table - the Babushka or the Big-O-Beam.
Richard @ Aug 17th 2007 7:43AM
My sister had that same pinball machine at the old house she lived at. I used to play it all the time.
T3H WICKERMAN @ Aug 17th 2007 8:34AM
cheers sirs or madams or sirmadams a hearty hand shake to you.
dreisdest @ Aug 17th 2007 8:45AM
Pinball! Hooray!
Larboz @ Aug 17th 2007 9:27AM
ITTTTTSSSS SSHOOOWWWTTIIMMMEEE!!
(no one said it better then him!)
Dinny @ Aug 17th 2007 9:28AM
Adams Family Pinball is my all time favorite pinball game. It's fantastic.
Jared Miller @ Aug 17th 2007 9:42AM
I used to love the Adam's Family pinball game. It may have been because it was the only one near where I lived, but it was awesome none the less.
Lunchbaux @ Aug 17th 2007 11:06AM
The MAMUSHKA!
I loved that game, I played it until my hands were sore.
64bprophet @ Aug 17th 2007 12:21PM
My father in law has one of those, in working condition. I tell you there is something about REAL pinball that cannot be mimicked digitally. It's probably the actual feel of the ball. I would play real pinball over digital pinball any day of the week. (The thing however is noisy as all-get-out. (It's either sound off, or sound on (which even on "low" is loud)) Anyway, good pic choice... especially since you could have chosen something from the soon to be released game that you don't stop talking about. =) Hmmm... THAT would make a cool pinball table.
Diskoboy @ Aug 17th 2007 12:57PM
Twilight Zone = Best pinball machine ever made.
Erich @ Aug 17th 2007 2:18PM
Hey! I have one of those. I love it when "the power" is activated, balls go flying everywhere.
thrustbucket @ Aug 17th 2007 2:50PM
I love this game, did anyone every make it for any system?
LSK @ Aug 19th 2007 1:05AM
Pinball is awesome on several levels. The physical nature of the game makes it soooo much more than any videogame ever attempting to duplicate it.
