Psssh... figures. The Halo movie gets canned, and then an actually GOOD game-themed is released but only for a limited engagement.

i think that the live action short that microsoft showed at their E3 conference proves what a horrible idea a Halo movie would be

Yes 'cause a multi-million dollar movie would end up like a shoe-string, rushed live-action short with very little to it at all...

Shut up.

Since it's at the Drafthouse you can get drunk and enjoy the movie. It's a win for everyone involved.

If more of us on here were drunk all the time maybe the fanboy arguments would be more civil. Wait, beer usually has the opposite effect. Nevermind.

Just noticed that after I posted, too bad that theater is on the other side of town. I wish it would be playing at the Draft house 10 min from me.

They don't play indie or limited run movies (or anything else good) at the lakeview drafthouse. Even their menu is more limited.. just drive down there and see it. "The other side of town" is only a 15 minute drive ya lazy bastard :P

There will also be a Donkey Kong contest at the South Lamar Alamo Drafthouse. The winner of the contest will win the actual DK arcade machine. Check out the Alamo DH for details.

Game reviews are still pretty much on track for the most part. But movie critics, on the other hand, have been strking out lately. I have enjoyed a few movies where the critics grossly mis-judged the general public's perception of what 'good' is for a movie. I usually just look at the 'user/comments' section to get a more accurate review.

I found that when movies get high ranking from critics, it's usually not that good and vice versa.

But you'll soon have our Seattle Supersonics (not that I care) thanks to the energy-tycoons that carpet-bagged Mr. Starbucks. On second thought, you really are screwed living in OKC.

Austin, Texas? Why would they do that?

Seriously, give Texas back to Mexico. We're better off without it. Worst state in the union.

Uh, you're showing your ignorance here. Austin is where South By Southwest is held, the largest film festival in the united states, and one of the largest in the world. It's also the most liberal city in the southwest, and not very 'texas' at all. So please do us all a favor and shut the fuck up.

Dan's clearly never been to Austin (or possibly ever left his house) otherwise he'd know Austin is one of the best cities in the country for music, food, women, and video games to boot.

And give Texas to Mexico? Ha. Texas fought for it's own freedom, we're not anyone's to give away. We're more likely to come up there and take over some of those crappy states.

It's also worth mentioning that most people who live in austin and enjoy movies have already seen King of Kong, when it was showed here at about 8 theaters back in March. What now bitches!? :)

Why Austin?
1) Because we're both the film and videogame capitol of the entire region. Tarantino and Rodriguez are the film highlights, and SOE, Retro Studios (Nintendo), NCSoft, and lots of smaller devs are here.
2) Indie and smaller films thrive in Austin. Ever heard of SXSW? Joystiq has, and went this year.

Besides, the city in general feels much different than your typical Texas city despite also housing the state's government, several high tech industries, and the greatest live music scene this side of the Mississippi (and I don't mean honky-tonk country BS).

But hey, if it befits your world view, keep living in ignorance, you troll.

Also, if you're in Seattle, Steve Weibe is going to be at the Varsity Theater for the 7 PM and 9:20 showing both today and tomorrow, according to a sign at their box office.

Steve Wiebe is coming to the Austin screening on Sunday to help give away a Donkey Kong machine to a lucky player.

A quick note, Austin Texas is probably the best city in all of the U.S. Have lunch at the Union at the University of Texas some September day and tell me the women here aren't some of the best in the nation. And then go to the best movie theater in America (the Alamo Drafthouse) and enjoy an excellent film with a beer.

Then you can cry yourself back to Oklahoma.

Saw it at the Traverse City Film Festival a couple weeks ago. If it's coming anywhere near you SEE IT. GREAT move. It got a standing ovation after we had to wait an extra 45 minutes just to get in if that tells you anything...
