World of Warcraft's Spectral Tiger sells for $2000
A Spectral Tiger from the World of Warcraft: Trading Card Game recently sold on eBay for $2000. If we'd have known that the Spectral Tiger that WoW Insider gave away last month would sell for $2000, we would have said. "Contest be damned! We're going to Vegas baby!" The reason the card is so special is because it also gives you a rare mount inside of WoW once you input a code.
Another reason the card sold for so much is that the card set it comes form, Fires of Outland, won't even be out until August 22nd. Beyond that, it's still apparently a rare card. As WoW Insider points out, $2000 is 11 years of game time -- and yes, that's the way they think about these things. Of course, like all things WoW, people go nuts and spend all this money and time on something to only have to be made completely uncool and pointless by something else a month later. But, you know, you're still World of Warcraft cool for a whole month.

What does this card do I don't understand.
blooh @ Aug 18th 2007 1:45PM
gives you a tiger mount in the game that's hard to see
COV3RT SN1P3R @ Aug 18th 2007 1:59PM
does it have anything to do with the computer game, like a code you input.
Spartan @ Aug 18th 2007 12:14PM
$2000 for a piece of cardboard with a picture on it and a pixelized 3D representation that allows you to travel a bit faster. Great deal, I'm gonna go buy one now. ;-)
Jon @ Aug 19th 2007 8:11AM
As opposed to people paying for a CD with holes in it?
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 18th 2007 12:18PM
So, for that its the money.
E.J. @ Aug 19th 2007 6:42AM
Vegas, baby!
horngreen @ Aug 18th 2007 12:19PM
Man that is sad. I see this guy as a young engineer with a sweet ride, the best electronics and unfortunately his virginity. He blew his chance to become something more in college than he was in high school and now he's in his mid to late 20s and he is done improving himself. Man what a piece of shit I am!
jimy @ Aug 19th 2007 1:03PM
who the hell are you to judge? He could be poor as shit or rich as fuck, and it is none of your business. nobody questions how you spend your money.
EihBeir @ Aug 18th 2007 12:19PM
Man...that's gonna buy a lot of gold.
Ranko @ Aug 18th 2007 12:24PM
I guess whoever paid $2000 for a card, is living pretty comfortably.
Chris @ Aug 18th 2007 12:31PM
maybe he sold his car for it?
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 18th 2007 12:32PM
You are right... Im doing math here just to have money to buy Metroid Prime 3, Bioshock Special Edition and Brain Age 2.
Lucky rich bastards.
SuMtOnE @ Aug 18th 2007 12:29PM
i wish i was livin comfortably
Jnas @ Aug 18th 2007 12:33PM

Zaphod Beeblebrox @ Aug 18th 2007 12:43PM
I know this is a collecters item but I would much rather spend 2 large on another HDTV.
Whatever makes 'em happy.
Rare Hare @ Aug 18th 2007 12:54PM
You beat me to it. Only I don't even have an HDTV at all. I just want one so bad. This makes me sad :(.
Burritoclock @ Aug 18th 2007 1:50PM
Yeah... I think this is stupid but then people think I am stupid for the amount of money I spend on TV's, speakers, games, consoles, etc. so as I say to each his own. Worth is so subjective that you can't really fault this person. Apparently this card was worth more than $2000 to him, rock band is worth more than the $200 or so to me, it's all relative.
Trashman @ Aug 18th 2007 12:44PM
THIS IS WORLD OF WARCRAFT!!!!!!
doom saber @ Aug 18th 2007 12:49PM
Would not be suprised if the card on ebay is the same one joystiq gave out a month ago.
Kye @ Aug 18th 2007 4:26PM
I wonder how much people would pay me to level up their characters?
Not like im doing anything else with my time.

So the expansion this card is from wont be out until the 22nd? Hell, the winner won't get that card in the mail until about the 22nd anyways.
AndrewNeo @ Aug 19th 2007 12:54AM
But he paid $2k for it! That makes it special!
EihBeir @ Aug 19th 2007 1:36PM
AndrewNeo- Paying two grand for the card doesn't make the CARD special...it makes HIM special...as in, short school bus "special."
yacjuman @ Aug 18th 2007 6:43PM
i used to like wow. now i dont. im sure you can all see why with stories like this :)
Word of the street. @ Aug 18th 2007 10:39PM
Taking collector value to new level Huh, I never thought I would ever see a card that worth more than a Diamond Mox or one of the other cool and totally broken Magic cards from the Alpha sets unless it was covered in Diamonds and signed by Richard Garfiled Himself.
This is more expected in yu-gi-oh were people would pay you an absurd amount of money for something that cost you 3.50 or 50$ if you bought the GBA game with the Egyptian God cards that were especially designed to rip off stupid kids that doesn’t know that with 300$ you could bought a GBA with the damn game that includes the cards.
So really Bill gates wanted a special creature for WOW that bad?.
Splinter @ Aug 19th 2007 3:12AM
I'd love to see someone pay 3Gs for them to shred it in front of the loser.
Chris16447 @ Aug 19th 2007 5:00PM
Judge Not, lest ye be judged. I've seen people pay more for less. You have to understand the stance of a collector. They wish to have it all, and will stop at nothing to obtain it. I myself know that feeling when you collect every single instance of something - it is a great sense of satisfaction, of closure, that very few things could beat.
Ska Oreo @ Aug 19th 2007 10:40PM
....
I hate you WoW. I really do.
