BioShock PC demo is really coming Monday
PC gamers are going to have to do a lot of spiritual preparation this week. Just a couple of days before they spiritually prepare themselves to play the entirety of BioShock, they're going to have to spiritually prepare themselves to finally get their hands on the demo. Actual real word has come down from on high that the PC demo of the critical (and Joystiq) darling will go live at 7 p.m. EST on Monday.
That's not all the soul prep though, as PC gamers will also have to brace themselves to have console gamer friends type countless "zzzzz"s as they attempt to share their demo experiences. Yes, 360 owners, we know you've been rocking the demo for a while, but why not pretend you've never heard about it? They've had a hard week.

All I can say is "finally."
And it was all about the drivers all along, as they themselves are also being released tomorrow.
caramelzappa @ Aug 19th 2007 7:00PM
Shame it didn't come any earlier, but as long as it's out before the game is, it give people a chance to see how it runs on their box before shelling out the cash for the game.
Stupidiot @ Aug 19th 2007 6:58PM
Sweet, I can try it out on my new rig! Hopefully my X1950 Pro (to tide me over until Nvidia release their 9800s) will handle it ok.
On another note, I'm really starting to get sick of that picture.
rivaldi22 @ Aug 19th 2007 7:04PM
Yeah, there's so much humour potential with Big Daddies, and turning him into, effectively, a lolcat is falling so far short.
Something like, "Oh hai, I fix'd your face with my drillz," would even be better than this.
bigkountry @ Aug 19th 2007 8:52PM
WHew... thanks for letting me know about the 9800's. Was gonna buy an 8800 gtx but I'll hold out for the 9800 now.
For now, I'll see how well this demo runs on my 7950gx2.
:)
Stupidiot @ Aug 19th 2007 9:06PM
No one has any solid information about the 9800s just yet, but it seems fairly likely that they'll be released by the end of the year, which is why I thought I'd buy a cheap(ish) video card with my new computer.
AttackingHobo @ Aug 19th 2007 10:40PM
The 9800 comes out around or in November, and EVGA has a step up program which allows you to get the latest card for the difference in the prices of the two, if you have purchased the card within 90 days.

I guess late is better then never.
I still think it's stupid that this build is nearly a year old and wasn't released a year ago. Never-the-less, as caramelzappa said, at least we can test how well our rigs will run the real game.
Elyscape @ Aug 20th 2007 2:02AM
Did you get the info about it being a year old from Penny Arcade? Because it's not true. The newspost there was somewhat ambiguous, but the year-old demo build part was actually about Heavenly Sword.

That was NEW AND EXCITING!
Tiwar26 @ Aug 19th 2007 7:20PM
Are you so sure? I'm using fileplanet's download manager to 'reserve' the demo and it's downloading right now!!
Tetranitrocubane @ Aug 19th 2007 7:40PM
Fileplanet will preload the demo, but you can't play it until it unlocks.
rom @ Aug 19th 2007 7:51PM
How big is the demo?
Jake @ Aug 19th 2007 7:28PM
The only point of the demo for PC at this point is to see how the ol' rig handles her. Because the quality of the game is obviously very, very high.
rivaldi22 @ Aug 19th 2007 7:42PM
I think you forgot a "very."
I hope my machine can handle this at a decent click, I bought a 19" widescreen LCD for it.
FrankTheCrank @ Aug 19th 2007 8:05PM
No offense, but you guys(Joystiq) are making a huge deal about this, the fact that PC got the demo later than 360.
Like, who cares?
Seriously, aren't their worse things to worry about? Like not having a 360 because your holding out for Falcon. Hopefully the overclocked 3.6, 7600 will hold up.
BioshockWarrior @ Aug 19th 2007 10:43PM
I couldn't agree more...
Who cares about this? The game is awesome on the 360 and why would I want to pay all that money for a computer that will be outdated in a few months?
Not to mention I don't see why theres this obsession with the mouse. The 360 controller was awesome during the demo for me.
Askzander @ Aug 19th 2007 8:06PM
I have a 360 but it broke, so I'm waiting for a replacement. I have a badass PC, though.
Abuzar @ Aug 19th 2007 10:22PM
Me too, my eight xbox 360 broke down but my 8800 Ultra can take this game on!
Word of the street. @ Aug 19th 2007 8:12PM
Is there going to be multi-language demos like in the xbox live?,I got the Demo in Spainish from Spain.
Be careful of "Gran papi".
I wonder how they call Big Daddy in France...
(Waititng for Someone to response Le Big Daddy or Royal with chesse)
Askzander @ Aug 19th 2007 8:46PM
Big Daddy in French: Grand papa
rivaldi22 @ Aug 19th 2007 8:50PM
Ca c'est le Plus Grand Jacques Cousteau! Zut alors!
I haven't Taken French in years.
Nudgenudge @ Aug 20th 2007 5:07AM
It is "Protecteur" (Protector) in the French version.
I would have loved "le Gros Papa" ("Grand" means tall).
rivaldi22 @ Aug 20th 2007 10:36AM
Or even les Papas Lourds.
Askzander @ Aug 19th 2007 8:43PM
Check out this Bioshock screenshot. I am really surprised they would put something like this into the game, but I give 2K major props for doing this:

Real Gambler @ Aug 19th 2007 8:49PM
Minimum requirement for it is only a P4 2.4Ghz with NVIDIA 6600/ATI X1300... Could almost run on my laptop, but yes, the big rig will do it :)
Urza @ Aug 19th 2007 8:58PM
Better late then never I guess. :)
David @ Aug 19th 2007 9:08PM
Well, seeing as how I'm gonna get it anyways, it pretty much puts the demo out of the picture. The reason I wanted the demo was to test out and optimize the game according to my rig, but since you know, the demo will come out five hours before the real game does, I might as well not download the demo. Laaame.
Other than that, Bioshock is gonna be awesome!!! Good bye Wedensday!
elmersglue @ Aug 19th 2007 9:12PM
I love how everyone is always proud of their "rigs" when it'll be referred to as "old" in just a few months. PC gaming is just not worth it.

At least with PC gaming, I have my choice of free or buy.
Ska Oreo @ Aug 20th 2007 1:37AM
preach it.
DA360 @ Aug 19th 2007 9:14PM
Doesn't it figure that it comes out literately several hours before the games retail release... At least I will get a chance to see how the game performs on my PC before buying it. I been trying to decide if I wanted to get the PC or 360 version but been heavily leaning towards the PC version (both are in the same room and have about the same size screen, my PC has a X-Fi, eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS KO ACS3, and I heard the PC version looks abit better and controls abit better, etc. and personally, I need more PC games). But I been wanting to see how well it plays on PC before deciding since I already played the Xbox 360 demo (which I thought was awesome).
elmersglue @ Aug 19th 2007 9:27PM
@hvnlysoldr
hahahaha
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 19th 2007 10:31PM
You're welcome.
area5x1 @ Aug 19th 2007 9:35PM
Ahahahaha fuck Monday I'm playing it right now, on Sunday.
Taco_Hell @ Aug 19th 2007 9:43PM
I can't wait to try out how the game runs on my PC. I've played the 360 demo, but if I could I would buy it for the PC as the controls will probably be smoother and since I wear headphones, the sounds will be more amazing as well.
Jeff @ Aug 19th 2007 11:07PM
I hope this comes with really good 360 controller support for PC. I prefer playing with a gamepad when I can (just because I'm a pure PC gamer and enjoy the novelty).
rivaldi22 @ Aug 19th 2007 11:19PM
I believe the in-game options includes a setting for using the 360 controller specifically.
So, I think you win.
caramelzappa @ Aug 20th 2007 12:35AM
0.o Never heard of a PC gamer who prefers analogs to mouse and keyboard. Most people prefer the mouse because it's distance based instead of acceleration based and thus more accurate. Whatever works for you I guess.
blooh @ Aug 20th 2007 12:42AM
but the analog is comfy
DaMan09 @ Aug 19th 2007 11:54PM
Sweet
umm...hello?? @ Aug 20th 2007 3:22AM
FYI (in case you didn't already know)--BioShock is $10 off at CircuitCity (or pricematched if you wish at BestBuy/other stores)...so x360 version is $50 and PC is $40. available tuesday!
IanY77 @ Aug 20th 2007 5:23AM
I still don't get the driver excuse from 2K. Shouldn't that have been taken care of before the game went gold?
Wilco @ Aug 20th 2007 6:15AM
Can't wait for the PC version. Gonna be great!!!
theCardinal @ Aug 20th 2007 6:36AM
Imma chargin' muh preload.
ZippyDSMlee @ Aug 20th 2007 6:42AM
Whats the size of the PC demo 1.8GB? (gotta be between 1.2-2.0)
t_m @ Aug 20th 2007 6:51AM
zzzzz....
