Attorney Jack Thompson has sent a complaint letter to the Federal Trade Commission for BioShock advertisements aired during Friday night's WWE Smackdown. GamePolitics has the full complaint from Thompson, a portion of it states: "Take-Two... is aggressively marketing its newest Mature-rated video game to kids under 17 years of age... On this Friday's night's 8 pm Eastern time airing of WWE's wrestling program "Smackdown," there were repeated ads for Take-Two/Rockstar Game's Mature-rated, incredibly violent BioShock ... This rampant fraudulent trade practice is precisely what 'Big Tobacco' did with its 'Joe Camel' and other teen-targeting ads, while at the same time lying to Congress that it was not marketing its adult product to kids."
Hey, we had no idea Rockstar had anything to do with BioShock ... oh wait, that's right, they didn't. The FTC has already stated they think the industry is doing a relatively fine job handling itself; however, the FTC does say the movie and video game industry are both guilty of marketing R and M rated content during shows with inappropriate demographics. That's all good and fine of course, but we're just way too busy bathing in the irony of a FTC violence complaint being brought upon the airing of BioShock ads during an episode of WWE Smackdown.

What if the commercial came on during the five o'clock news? The news isn't rated for adult viewers, so would that be marketing towards kids, Jack?
You can't stop a company from making any kind of videogame they want, it is something called Freedom of Speech, ever hear of that, Mr. Smart Lawyerin' man?
You need to stop retailers from selling to kids and, even more importantly, you need to stop uncaring parents from buying M rated games for their kids.
I think the real problem here is that Jack is completely out of touch and thinks that only 8-12 year olds play videogames.
DO some research f*cktard!

So if he's successful, doees that mean they'll no longer be able to advertise R-rated movies on TV anymore?
Someone please put him out of our misery, already.

I'm starting to think that Jack Thompson has a crush on Take Two, he just doesn't know how to properly express his love..

You'd think he'd have more of a problem with the fact that you can kill children.
But also, if a kid happens to get his hands on Bioshock, he'll learn that if you hit your buddy in the head with a wrench, he will bleed and most likely die.
However, I haven't seen that shown in wrestling, they usually just get angry and hit you with a chair or something.

Wait, didn't Jack Thompson sign a contract promising that he would never harass Take-Two with legal action again? Doesn't this break that contract? That's conclusive proof that Thompson is a liar... it's even in writing!

The contract didn't say he couldn't whine like a baby though. That's what he's doing right now.

Firstly, shame on every one of you who didn't realise 2K Games was part of the Take-Two empire.
I think my problem with Jack Thompson is that he only seems to target games that are going to be successful, as if he is following the money and not legitimately trying to tackle the problem of youth exposure to inappropriate violence.
The common term for men like him is "ambulance chaser".

funny that on top of his complaint about bioshock during a wrestling program, he seems to have overlooked that a few seconds of animated, fantasy violence (bioshock) is apparently worse for children than seeing real life people beating the bejesus out of one another for an hour or so.
