As proof that Jeff Minter is no longer tweaking, Space Giraffe is set for release on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, August 22nd, for 400 MS Points ($5). If the term "tunnel shooter" doesn't help you visualize Llamasoft's unhinged experiment in visual excess, picturing a Tempest of rainbows vomiting on your screen should get you halfway there. And that's not even considering the steady stream of mixed up gaming memes it spouts at you -- we just found out our giraffe is in another castle.
Also releasing this week is Street Trace: NYC, a futuristic hoverboard racer where your board's "emissions" can grant speed boosts to competing players. Mid-air jostling, upgradeable vehicles and online multiplayer all add up to 800 MS Points ($10) and a stirring memory of the Dreamcast's TrickStyle.

They FINALLY release Space Giraffe... at the same time as BioShock... brutal! Combine this with MP3, Stranglehold, and Blue Dragon next week and I'm going to need some serious time off of work. Now how much do you want to bet they'll release Super Puzzle Fighter next week to REALLY screw me up?!

400 points? Wow, didn't think they'd offer it for that low, but I'm hoping that's not indicative of the quality. Sure looks good...

Sure hope Space Giraffe is good. Something I was looking forward to when I finally get a 360.

Space Giraffe looks pretty much unplayable to me. Not sure why Minter is considered such a game design god. He has only ever really done one thing -- just does it over and over again with more and more trippy light shows in the backgound.

He is considered such because he has been making cult hits like Attack of the Mutant Camels since the early 8-bit computing days as well as bigger name classics like Tempest 2000 and Defender 2000 (not to mention the most impressive music visualizers around)

Obviously, you weren't around during the c-64 days.
If Eugene Jarvis didn't exist, Jeff Minter would be the supreme god of twitch shooters. He's don'e a helluva lot more than Tempest 2K and the 360's Neon Visualiser.
Gridrunner, Attack and Revenge of the Mutant Camels, Hover Bovver, Lazer Zone, just to name a few...

I just gotta say that your avatar kinda freaks me out. I can't put my finger on exactly why...probably the eyes.
More on topic, my wife is not going to be very happy with me over the next couple of months. There's just too much goodness coming down the pipeline.

"You ever see the back of a twenty dollar bill... on weed? Oh, there's some crazy shit, man. There's a dude in the bushes. Has he got a gun? I dunno! RED TEAM GO, RED TEAM GO."
That's all I can think about when I read your comment. Hahaha :P

space giraffe makes my eyes bleed. i think the only way to stop it is to consume large amounts of LSD. But then you might get freaked out by the image of the person lurking in the background at times.

I've enjoyed his games more than his visualizers. They are too over the top and garish imho. If only you could adjust the color palettes to be a little more complimentary.

Damn. I was hoping for Puzzle Fighter. Maybe next week. I do love being able to demo these other games though, even though they have no interest to me. Neither did Boom Boom Rocket, but I love that one.

I'm looking forward to Space Giraffe, also. I loved Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar. If you'd like a pretty good free version of a Tempest 2000 rip-off, just Google "typhoon 2001".
