I think the best news out of this is that the 360 and PS3 guitars are black now. It matches my Elite!

I haven't been really keeping up with the whole GH3/RB thing, but can the GH3 guitar(s) be used playing RB and vice-versa? Also, which game/version of the guitar will have the 5 additional fret buttons?

Guitar Hero guitar works with Rock Band. Rock Band guitar has 5 extra buttons.

Guitar Hero guitars can be used with Rock Band. Rock Band guitars cannot be used with Guitar Hero.

This is really only useful if you have the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero, since the PS2 guitars don't work with PS3 without some special adapter. (Not just any PS2-PS3 adapter works.)

Personally, I would prefer to try the newer, larger guitars for Rock Band.

That doesn't make any sense. Why would the controller with extra buttons not work on the game that requires less? Where'd you read Rock Band guitars couldn't be used with Guitar Hero III? (Citation Needed! -_^)

"We do intend to support 3rd-party guitar peripherals, including the Guitar Hero controllers, because this kind of interoperability is exactly what gamers want and expect."
- Alex Rigopulos, co-founder and CEO of Harmonix

Yes, the Rock Band controller has more buttons, but the five new fret buttons are optional. They will be used only during solos and won't require any strumming. The source for that is the Game Informer article from a few months ago.

@Dortamur

I guess I didn't really answer your actual question. There has been no official announcement from Activision about supporting the Rock Band controllers, but I think everyone assumes it's out of the question.

Harmonix knows how to use the Guitar Hero controllers, since they have experience with them. I doubt Harmonix has been kind enough to send over the code for using the Rock Band controllers.

So I guess there really isn't a source for this assumption, but it just seems like common sense to say that Guitar Hero won't support Rock Band guitars.

GH3 seems to have the better list SO FAR.....doesn't matter, I plan on getting Rock Band for the drums and GH3 for the guitar. Only time will tell on which game will come out on top.

Santana's "Black Magic Woman" is actually a cover of the Fleetwood Mac song (and early Fleetwood Mac at that, well before Stevie Nicks). Of course, Santana's version is the better and more popular one, but it's surprising how few people know that it's a cover. GH3 will undoubtedly have "as made famous by Santana" since that was definitely the most famous version, although the original did chart in the UK.

The question is, if it was in there, would All Along the Watchtower be famous by Bob Dylan or Jimi Hendrix?

It depends on whose version they are attempting to mimic. Van Halen's cover of You Really Got Me said "as made famous by Van Halen," despite the original being very famous.

Speaking of which, when are they going to put The Kinks in there? They had a bunch of great songs.

I'm a fan of the version of All Along The Watchtower that they had on the season 2 finale of Battlestar Galactica. But I'd have to put my vote down for the Hendrix version

Why all the hate on Supernatural? Just because it got overplayed on the radio doesn't mean it isn't good music.

No, the fact that it is bad music is the reason it is bad music. Just because people like a song doesn't give it any merit.

And I agree, The Killers? People still listen to that fad band? And they play guitars?

I'd prefer Europa for Santana, but Black Magic Woman is a great song.

>Only time will tell on which game will come out on top.

I think rock band will be the better game without a doubt, though that's all a matter of opinion. However, Guitar Hero II will EASILY outsell Rockband. For one, it has the name recognition, but more importantly it's on PS2 and Wii as well as the other two. It'll blow Rock Band out of the water.

You people don't get it. It's not about which song is the best to listen to, but which is the best to PLAY, wit the most entertaining note charts.

For example: "Smoke on the Water" and "I Wanna Be Sedated" were in the first Guitar Hero. Are these cool song to listen to? Of course. Are they fun to play in the game? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Hmm, I'm still pretty lukewarm to this soundtrack. Good additions tho, but this soundtrack definitely has a lot of songs I'll probably play once or twice and then leave alone. I guess I'll still be playing Ziggy Stardust. ;)

Another interesting tidbit on that boxart is that when it discusses online play, there's a note that says "Online play is only available on the PLAYSTATION 3, XBOX 360, and Wii platforms" or something like that. So online just might be in for the Wii version.
