Skate demo is now available on Xbox Live, PS3 demo coming soon

After being held up for six days, EA's Skate demo has finally arrived on Xbox live, begging to be downloaded and obsessed over. We're just a tad bit obsessed with it ourselves, going as far as calling it "a spiritual experience." Will you reach gaming nirvana as well? Not unless you can achieve that state within thirty minutes of this timed demo.
Your thirty minutes in heaven takes place in the community center skate park in the suburbs and it's fully equipped to experience a good chunk of what's possible in Skate. After a brief tutorial of the flick-it controls, you'll be let loose on the park, free to do whatever you please.
What really makes this demo special is the ability to save and upload a movie using the saved films feature so please, feel free to share your creations with the rest of the class. As for PlayStation 3 owners, your demo will be arriving sometime soon as folks at EA have said that it's been completed, sent out and is now in Sony's hands.

It better not be another crapy , with horrible framerate problems, port!
I know X360 GPU is stronger , but.... optimize please?
Greg @ Aug 21st 2007 6:18AM
Wrong, 360 GPU is not "stronger". Framerate problems are programmer problems.
ClintEastman @ Aug 21st 2007 7:01AM
Wrong, 360 GPU is "stronger". ALOT "stronger"!
el tonot @ Aug 21st 2007 8:44AM
""Wrong, 360 GPU is "stronger". ALOT "stronger"!""
Links please! I refuse to believe it
! Why does Dirt look better than the 360 version if the 360 is better? Like a previous poster said its just lazy developers, unlike Codemasters, that make the 360 "seem" more powerful!!!
Lifted 0ne 4l9 @ Aug 21st 2007 9:14AM
360 does actually have a better GPU, while PS3 has a more powerful CPU though not designed for gaming, were as the the 360's CPU was designed for gaming though not as powerful
Curmeo @ Aug 21st 2007 11:02AM
RSX+Cell > Xenos+Xenon
360 development tools/environment + 1 year headstart > PS3 development tools/environment + 1 year late arrival
Anonim @ Aug 21st 2007 3:19PM
I would be cautious calling DIRT on PS3 'better'
Dirt pS3 vs X360
http://gameplanets.blogspot.com/2007/08/dirt-ps3360-graphics-comparison.html
Some cuts - HDR, grass , etc.
Some fixes.
Considering nearly all ports to PS3 have FRAMERATE problems / GRAPHICS cuts

RSX su**
It needs all help it can get from Cell to even compare to X360's GPU.

This demo is so good.
THPS < Skate. By far. I'm loving the realistic feel.
OnimushaSoki @ Aug 21st 2007 7:04AM
That's actually good to hear... THPS has been feeling stagnant lately, nice to know competiton might reignite the fun of videogame skateboarding.
SYN @ Aug 21st 2007 6:43AM
the demo is fantastic. the game is much more difficult than thps, but infinitely more rewarding. you actually get a sense of accomplishment after landing a wicked trick.
i can't wait to see what comes out of the movie maker.i am sure we will see some spectacular creations coming even out of the demo.
Marcus @ Aug 21st 2007 7:13AM
I've been downloading for half an hour :D. But.... It's still on 2%, I'm connected to a router by an ethernet cable. Bioshock seemed to download in about an hour.
Anyone have an idea what's going on?
jimy @ Aug 21st 2007 10:05AM
i hear ya, been at 0% for quite some time.
nj skater dude @ Aug 21st 2007 7:49AM
After downloading the demo and playing it twice, I can safely say that this will replace any THPS incarnation. The controls are really tough at first being overexposed to the THPS control scheme for the last 7-8 years, but I can see that diminishing over time. The satisfaction from doing something you REALLY want to do is awesome.
Here is a tricklist for everyone to lazy to look it up...

skate.reel isn't working yet, but who cares right now???
Norm @ Aug 21st 2007 9:53AM
thanks!
jimy @ Aug 21st 2007 10:08AM
thanks :), i am too lazy.
mdijkstra @ Aug 21st 2007 8:05AM
The download is waaaaay slow. I've been downloading for more than an hour, and it's still at 5%. :(
Michael @ Aug 21st 2007 8:25AM
This game is fantastic! It was taking a long, long time for me to download, but then I turned my xbox off, took out the cable, plugged it back in and the download speed went back to relatively normal. Was initially taking 30 minutes to do 3% but didn't take anywhere near that long after doing what I describe above.
ShadowHawk01 @ Aug 21st 2007 8:57AM
I knew I should have checked the marketplace last night. At least I plan to leave work a little early today.
Matt @ Aug 21st 2007 9:17AM
I love it, I had high expectations and they were met. Although I am sure it might not be recieved well, if you have ever skated you will love it, but those that like grinding down telephone lines and skating full speed through the grass might not be into it.
kbunch @ Aug 21st 2007 9:40AM
I am going to have to DL it. I spent many years skating in HS and in college and hated the Tony Hawk series cause it was SO unrealistic!
SmellyIrishMan @ Aug 21st 2007 9:52AM
This is US only I assume? Could you include that please?
Norm @ Aug 21st 2007 9:52AM
OH FACKING CARP WHY DO I HAVE TO BE AT WORK RIGHT NOW.
I really want to play this.
(I'm still hoping for that Thrasher sequel by the way...)
brent @ Aug 21st 2007 10:14AM
thanks for that link, i got up at 5:45 this morning to start the d/l hoping it would be done before work, but no luck. Just have to wait till after work!!
ZenGaijin @ Aug 21st 2007 11:18AM

TWiNKiE @ Aug 21st 2007 5:12PM
The Bioshock demo killed my 360 2 days ago.
brent @ Aug 21st 2007 11:39AM
theres seems to be more then a few people having problems with it freezing, hopefully i'm not one of them
Norm @ Aug 21st 2007 11:42AM
This is the best thing to happen to my xbox 360 since I bought it. seriously.
Royale @ Aug 21st 2007 1:41PM
Everyone is now into this realistic skateboard video game. Does anyone remember a little gem from the PS1 era called 'Thrasher Skate and Destroy' ? This game was a little tricky to get used to, but once you figured it out.. it was awesome, and as realistic as you could get on the PS1. I haven't played this demo yet but will surely download it tonight. TH games have gotten more boring after the OG THPS(1).
Norm @ Aug 21st 2007 5:43PM
I was amazed to discover that this game takes that idea of realism and takes it moves it ahead about 500%. Thrasher was my favorite game ever untill I played the demo for this.
Royale @ Aug 21st 2007 5:57PM
Awesome. Thrasher was a very hard game. I imagine that it might turn (some) people off from Skate, and thought I loved it, a lot of my friends did not. I can't wait to get off work and DL this demo!
Royale @ Aug 21st 2007 1:41PM
pwnd.
Mr Slavio @ Aug 21st 2007 3:38PM
Sweet friggin game. Tony Hawk franchise is in trouble.
Gnome @ Aug 21st 2007 5:05PM
Agh! My upload didn't go through and I spent an hour editing it. I had a great one do with him riding the skateboard after a bail. EA, you dropped the ball there when you didn't able the save replay feature. :(
rikimaru @ Aug 21st 2007 7:01PM
I Just played the demo twice. This game is so much fun for a person who likes skateboarding. I giggled out loud a handful of times while watching my skate guy pull off really sloppy tricks and grinds (because I don't know what I'm doing yet) While attempting to figure out the controls. Once you get the hang of a certain trick it is such a happy feeling. I love it!
I pulled this sweet vert trick on accident involving a coffin leg wrap around and a back flip thing. It looked awesome, and really smooth. Lost the footage thought 'cause the uploader is not working.
This game looks great, the animations are really dynamic feeling depending on what you do with the controls. The gameplay is genius.
What a breath of fresh air, There is nothing like this game on shelves right now. I am totally trading in a few of my games and picking this up new.
blooh @ Aug 21st 2007 8:19PM
it's really such a shame EA is involved in this, you know the online stuff is going to be retarded and will be discontinued within 2 years :(
the gameplay itself is fun though, but the camera could use a little more options, and the crash graphic lasts too long, it gets annoying when i'm trying to do a trick
also, i'm having a damn hard time doing the manuals challenge, i keep going into a full ollie 95% of the time, and even when i can do a manual, then ollie from it, I can't land on just one wheel, even if my analog is all the way back. wtf
blooh @ Aug 21st 2007 9:25PM
heh, practiced a few more minutes and figured out how to land in a manual, it's still tricky tho. can't jump from that without setting down the front wheel though, so I couldn't get the 3rd part of that challenge before the half hour ran out
dubstep @ Aug 22nd 2007 4:53AM
amazing game! i skated for about 10 years till i broke my back, and i always jones to sk8. this game is really like skating. it takes a lot of patience but is very rewarding when you pull a trick you've been trying hard at..
much, much better than THPS especially if you ever skated b4.
kevin_s @ Aug 22nd 2007 9:59AM
Man.... it is REALLY hard to get the THPS controls out of your head when playing this... I understand the controls, but I instinctively revert back to the THPS ways at times, and that just screws you up in this game! Haha!
All in all, this game is really awesome. The controls are going to take some getting used to because they're so foreign for anyone who's played THPS since it's debut. But it's definitely more realistic, and thus rewarding. I love it.
I can see how some people will play it for 10 minutes, get pissed at the controls, and pass it off as a bad game. But you've got to give it some time to learn the controls. It's quite challenging!
