Big Daddy should probably be renamed Sugar Daddy, as Reuters reports Take-Two's stock rose 10% at the close of trading on Tuesday. Wall Street seems happy with the buzz for the game and if Amazon.com's bestseller list is any indication, sales seem strong. The Xbox 360 version of BioShock is currently #2 as of this writing on their bestseller list behind the Wii, the PC version of the game is #5 behind Halo 3 pre-orders and the sexy crimson DS.
Reviews for the game itself have been overwhelmingly positive, with random tech issues (especially on the PC version) and the whole widescreen problem bringing most of the hate. Following the delay of GTA IV, it probably comes as a relief to Take-Two that they'll at least have one strong mega-hit going into this holiday season.

Jerkface..
I got to play it on my gaming rig last night for about 15 minutes. I tried to run the demo on my laptop which had ATI Mobility Radeon X700. No good. My Nvidia 7800 worked with no problems. I was pretty impressed with the graphics. Pretty phenomenal...they remind me of MYST, but in REAL TIME. This is a very stylized game. It's very nice looking. Tons of Art Deco.
I will play more tonight...so far, very good stuff.
PS...the XBOX 360 Controller is natively supported in the game. Even the rumbling effect worked.

Yeah, Bioshock is 10xAWESOME. I seriously could not put it down last night. Must have played for 5 hours straight...but I still never noticed any widescreen "problems." I could see all the HUDs, no problem. Is that just with certain TVs or something?

About the stock...
They were at nearly $20 a share in late July...when the bad news of Manhunt2 and GTA IV came out their stock dropped to around $12.50 a share...with BIOSHOCK they got a pop and are sitting at around $14.50 a share. Nearly a 15% increase.
Not bad. If you bought it at $20, thats a 25% drop. Ouch...

Take Two or 2K? Didn't you guys run an article a couple days ago saying JT got them confused - and now you're doing the same thing...

Aha! I said something about this being good for their stock to the clerk who sold me the game, and he told me I had Take Two and 2K mixed up. I forgot they owned 2K...but I was right! Sweet!

Just played the game last night and I have to say that I am not blown away by it. The hacking makes me want to claw my eyes out with a rusty fork. The AI does not seem that smart as they do nothing but charge you as soon as you are spotted making it more of a melee than anything(I am playing it on hard). The story and enviroment is good and will keep me playing. But as far as this gettin 10's across the board, I don't see it. Now I might be a little premature in my judgement because I only played it for ablout 3 hours, but from what I seen so far is that this is a solid game, but not a great game deserving perfect scores. It just isn't that fun.

I'm only two hours into the game myself and I have to say I'm having a different experience with the enemy behavior. The only people I've seen charge straight at me are the splicers with melee weapons (reasonably so).
I've seen the splicers with guns take cover, dodge my return fire and blow apart the turrets I hacked when the turrets turned on them.
The grenade lobbing splicers have generally stayed out of melee range whenever I've encountered them and the one time they got within melee range I learned the hard way that melee combat is not the best way to take them out.
Not saying you didn't have the experience you had but mine has been completely different and I'm playing on medium difficulty.
I'd rate the game in the 9's and I was hooked for good once I experienced the turrent demoltion incident mentioned above.

my experience has been different as well. Ive seen enemies take cover frequently, try to flank me, etc. the hacking minigame took some getting used to for me, but my wife was able to solve the puzzles almost as soon as the minigame started. wifes: useful arent they.
the sounds are what stun the crap outta me. the first encounter with a big dady was really an amazing battle to me, and ive played TONS of fps games. the impact, the screams of the little sister, everything about it was amazing. i was literally out of breath afterwords. i was expecting just a regular ol tough guy battle, but there was a quality about it that really just bumped it up a notch.
ive found this game to be worthy of the hype leading up to it. honestly the only thing i feel a bit let down on is the graphics... and even then, theyre still beautiful and atmospheric.

Do yourself a favor and play Nintendo from now on. Either that or just stop playing videogames, Bioshock is already a classic, and its only been out one day.

Well I have played nintendo and it was more than likely before you learned how to read. There is no reason to bash what I was saying because it was an OPINION. Nor did I bash anyone who liked the game. Further, if you read all of my post you will see that I also said that I might need to play more than 3 hours and that I might have judged it to quickly. This means that it just might grow on me and that I might take back what I have said earlier.

What a great game, very submersive, Circuit City has it for $49.99. Keep me up until 4am, been awhile since a good game keep me up that late. Now, back to work, need more caffeine.
