Good to hear that the Drums feel pretty good. I was worried that it might feel to plastic-y and fake to keep the costs down. Looks like Harmonix proved me wrong once again!

This will be the ultimate party game this holiday for sure.

I want this game, but I don't have a 360. I'm kinda torn here.

I'm getting a 360 just for this game. Effectively. Bioshock's making the sale a bit easier.

Well, when my PS1 came new, out of the box, with busted memory card slots, I kinda held off on getting a PS2.

I seem to think the whole kit was pre-priced at $200 on Amazon. My gf has already dedicated that money to the cause. Looks like it will be damn fun!

Careful, the 360 value pack comes with a wired guitar instead of the seperately available wireless one.

I wish I knew a little more about those extra frets. Do you use those along with the five that are already there or do you keep you fingers on just the extras during solos?

In the past, it has been stated that you will need to tap the mic during certain rhythm sections where there are no vocals.

Wouldn't this make it prohibitive to do the whole mic-and-guitar at once thing?

OK, I found the answer to my question in the Wired Game|Life preview:

"I performed Weezer's Say It Ain't So on guitar and vocals. I don't want to say I totally rocked ass, but: 97% guitar (medium), 91% vocals. And the only reason that vocals were low is because I couldn't hit the 'tambourine' parts, where you bash the microphone with your fist during the guitar solo passages...

They did make it so that missing the tambourine hits does not hurt your power meter as a singer. You aren't ever at risk of a game over for missing the tambourines. So they were thinking ahead. But there's no way to turn them off entirely and adjust the percentage scores to reflect that."

Couldn't you effectively blow or make some kind of sound into the mic at the tamborine hits to "fool" it. Sounds like something to play with, once the game comes out.

Hopefully they are going to release a double bass pedal setup. Other than that, sounds like this game is progressing well.

Certainly spells trouble for the Guitar Hero francise, especially after their downloadable content debacle.

Because... buying both is completely out of the question...?

Why is everyone in one camp or the other? Both seem to me like they'd be an awesome buy, since both are listing some pretty sweet tracks. Personally I plan on getting Guitar Hero 3 w/wireless guitar pack, then a Rock Band + drums pack. If any of my friends want to sing they can go die. I don't see a point in having master tracks if my friends are just going to belt out screeching tones, random hiccups and blurbs that somehow pass for singing. Definitely don't want to hear any of my friends trying to imitate Billy Corgan, Curt Kobain, or David Bowie. I don't think I want to make my 360 endure such a horror - Lord knows how fast the RRoD will pop up then.

Can you guys PLEASE confirm weather or not the PS3 guitar will be Bluetooth? So far there isn't a shred of official confirmation on it on the internets.

I don't wanna have to plug in a dumb USB dongle.

I usually refrain from commenting on these posts because I generally agree with the majority of them. However, I was annoyed when I saw the comparison of the old Drummania controller to the new Rockband controller.

The post states "if you had no intentions of playing the game with any sort of accuracy."

I highly disagree with this as I own this controller and Drummania as well as play drums in real life. From my experience the controller not only works great, but Japanese rhythm games seem to require a great deal more accuracy and timing than the American counter parts. Both the Guitar Heroes, for instance, require accuracy, but give a lot of room for error.

Also the Drummania Controller resembles a real drumset closer than the Rockband one does. The hi-hat and snare are in awkward positions and seem as if you don't need to cross your hands to play them (how real drumsets are played.)

I don't doubt that Rockband is and will be a great game, but when you say that the Drummania Controller and game is less accurate I must defend it. Harmonix hasn't solved any issue of session play. They've taken an old mechanic which Konami has perfected, and put it to American music and brought it to an American audience. THAT is what they should be commended for.

That's nice. I play 80+ difficulty in DrumMania, yet I find it impossible to play anything above a 40 on the home controller thanks to its god awful tiny layout, unresponsive pads and joke of a pedal.

You can -think- it has a more accurate layout, but that still does not translate to accurate play.

How does this game play in SINGLE PLAYER, when all you have is ONE GUITAR? Is this aspect of the game exactly the same as Guitar Hero? Is it worse? Is it better?

Since I don't have 4 friends who'd be willing to play this (and even if they were, I seriously doubt they'd be any good at this -- especially the singing part), I would end up playing single-player guitar MOST OF THE TIME. So this is my biggest feature that I actually care about with this game, which NONE of the journalists are touching AT ALL.

All I want to know is, for a SINGLE PLAYER experience, is Rock Band a good alternative to Guitar Hero? Is it better? Is it worse? I know the songs are better, but that's irrelevant if the game blows.

in defense of drummania's playability, from drummania's 3rd home release and on, users have had the option of connecting electronic drum kits to their ps2s via usb. granted it is a more expensive option (you also have to get a usb-midi adapter thingy..), but it's there, and it's something i'd like to see available for rock band.

it appears that Guitar Hero is taking the standard formula and adding battle modes with all the powerups and such, expanding the multiplayer aspect of the game.

While rockband seems to be taking the standard formula and extending it to other instruments. At least we haven't heard anything about these battle modes and things like that.

They'll both get plenty of play time in my house.

Seriously, if you're going through all this trouble just to become good at a video game, get real instruments, learn how to really play them, form a real band, play some real venues, and earn some real money.

That being said... I want this game too.
