LGC07: Go!Messenger PSP enables IMing, voice and video chat
SCEE has put a name to the BT-developed software that will enable a suite of VoIP functionalities on PSP: Go!Messenger. The Go!Messenger XMB application will be installed with a future firmware update due in January (or downloaded separately), enabling European PSP users to instant message each other using a redesigned virtual keyboard (we're still waiting on a physical QWERTY pad to materialize). In addition, the PSP headset and Go!Cam can be used for voice and video chat.Go!Messenger has been developed in conjunction with BT, the UK's leading telecommunications and broadband internet provider, which services more than 170 countries. Initially, Go!Messenger will only be available in select European territories and will remain limited to Wi-Fi hotspot availability. No plans to expand the chat services beyond BT's jurisdiction have been announced.

Two words: Who cares?

You do apparently, by virtue of posting on the topic.

No, he doesn't care and I don't either.
Was that simple enough to understand?

So does your cell phone only recieve and make calls?
C'mon, if your gonna troll, please do better than that.
More functionality in one device is ALWAYS a good thing.

Just shows that the PSP isnt really a handheld...more of an iphone really...

Yes, thats an interesting way to put it, expect Apple to get worried. In fact, you wonder if Sony are going head-on with BOTH MS (the PS3 as competitor to both 360 and PC) and Apple (music player, computers and this)

Just goes to show there are lots of dumbasses in the world who think adding new capablility to gaming devices is somehow a negative.

Amazing how the PSP just keeps getting better and better.

for the people that are hating like always.. i had been hesitant about buying a psp.. but after all these features.. i'm definetly buying one for christmas.. i'm a contractor, and i need a gps system.. i had been waiting to drop price, but since i'm gonna be able to record family guy, and simpsons on my ps3 and then watch it on my psp, plus a gps..
i'm truly sold.. very nice sony.. i love how my ps3 it's saving me a crapload of money

Cute, I've been doing that very same thing via a Mac with EyeTV and an iPod for a good year. Only I'm not limited to whatever Memory Card Pro Ex Alpha holds (80gb on me 'pod).
Tom Tom 910 handles GPS and, ironically, has a better speaker than my PSP.
/couldn't care less about PSP features. Does care about games on it.
Zaphod Beeblebrox @ Aug 22nd 2007 3:31PM
Gosh Bullet, that is terrible. Why would you want more functionality on a single device when you could pay more money for another device to do the same thing?
You do know that value according to some of these trolls is having 500 different devices all doing only 1 thing is BETTER than 1 or 2 devices doing alot of things.

For the same reason that your car doesn't have a built-in ironing board, people are fed up with these useless "features." Why should they be excited about device that does 50 things when they could have paid $200 less for a gaming platform, which is what they THOUGHT they were buying in the first place.
Adding multiple functionalities to one item does not help the item out unless it does each thing well... and the PSP doesn't really do anything well. It is a jack of all trades, and master of none.
BulletToothTony @ Aug 22nd 2007 4:58PM
riiiiiiiiiiiiggghhhttt nice try, but last i checked, cars came mp3 ready.. and guess what? even with gps... well what do you know....
and if i would've paid $200 less i would be at $-30, anyhow, it's ok.. well so i guess up to this day the psp was ok with you, but since it's becoming a phone, a portable tv, and a gps system, oh yeah and i can hook up to my ps3 and thru my ps3 then to my pc.. then that makes my psp a bad thing??
wow, some people i swear.. i understand that you might not like sony but come up with a nonsense like this it's really sad..
bottom line, the psp its what? you guessed it portable.. and so it's a gps system.. and even thou it might not come with an ironing board (yet), i'm still gonna get one, and enjoy ALL the features of it.. but thanks for trying to make me not buy it

This sounds like a great way to make the battery lifespan of the PSP even shorter. That's functionality for ya.
dramamoose @ Aug 24th 2007 12:36AM
Why do people keep bitching about positive additional features? I will never understand this.
