Electronic Art's Rock Band isn't the only music game to unveil songs today. Activision has announced (via press release) eleven new master tracks for the upcoming Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. American audiences may not recognize many of these songs and artists, as they are more international hits. New songs include:
@ baef "Americans like american rock, not spanish rock."
And who says they're making this exclusively for Americans? I'm from jolly olde England, and I'll quite happily give any of these songs a go. Remember the Kaisers and Black Sabbath and the Stones and Iron Maiden are all from England. Would you prefer they be taken off the track listing?
Fact of the matter is, I hadn't heard of a lot of the bands on GHII, yet I enjoyed all of them. Even the unlockables.
Besides, if you don't like the track list, you don't have to buy this game. End of. Goodbye.
I don't think anyone here really cares whether the songs in Guitar Hero III are from the United States or not, it's more about these being unknown to us. For example, you wouldn't hear this same type of complaining over Du Hast being in the game, because it's more familiar to most Americans (I could be wrong, maybe some of these songs are famous and I just don't know them).
And I think the complaints are somewhat understandable. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for variety and I can see that they want to expand the popularity of Guitar Hero to other countries, but let's be honest here, most of us are less excited about these than we would be if they announced Led Zeppelin or AC/DC.
And every song that is announced that isn't Led Zeppelin or AC/DC makes them seem that much more unlikely to be in the game, hence it being disappointing news.
That said, I'm personally excited about this because I like to see that they're not afraid to make some risky moves with the song list. Even if I don't know any of these songs, it's nice to know that the developers aren't just throwing in nothing but popular music.
Half the rock bands that become popular in the States are usually from the UK or some other European nation, anyway. Why should "international" bands be a bother?
Heroes del Silencio just so happens to be one of the best rock bands in spanish. Although I do agree it is not their best song, it still is pretty good and it will probably be fun to play. This is a smart move by Activision, trying to appeal to a broader audience - and I do think they intend to market their product in other places besides the United States.
Btw, black sabbath, led zeppelin, iron maiden, the rolling stones are British. And one of the greatest and most influential bands of all time, Rush, just so happens to be Canadian.
Man, a lot of you people need to broaden your horizons. "OMG teh non merican rok SUKS"
Maybe, just maybe, you'll end up loving some, if not most of the music in the game. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin are great, but you can only listen to them so much. Radio sucks. Don't feed radio.
