As a guy with close to $800 flapping in the wind this holiday season alone, I can only offer a single utterance....

Fuck you. Sony's shit is announced to being packed from now all the way through second quarter of next year and you want them to announce even more? My wallet suffers greatly!

you don't *have* to buy every game they announce...

but obviously more games = more choice. I'd rather have choices.

and most of ps3's big games have been delayed until "sometime" next year (with a few 360 ones, i admit). It's just real funny to me how dumb sony's marketers and other execs are

If they cared just about games, and not movies and all electronics, we'd have a ps3 without the bluray player that'd be probably $100 cheaper and it might outsell the 360. As it is though, even with the recent price drop the ps3 won't outsell the 360 for at least 6 months. They'll still make decent money, of course, you don't need to be the leader for that.

And if Nintendo cared about games, I'd have something to play on my Wii right now aside from a PS2 port and an everyone votes channel.

More and more companies are coming forward saying the extra space is needed. Doesn't it suck that it made PS3 expensive? Well, yeah, but you act as if $400 is bargain bin.

More games = more choice, good for consumers, but bad for game developers.

Given that game developers have to think for themselves first, it isn't in any way unreasonable.

No that bundle is priceless, not only do they not cut the price, but they also give the UK a game in the bundle that they church of england hates. That is truly playing to crowd. HAHAHAHAHA

Playing to crowd = not selling games that the Church of England disapproves of?

By that logic, shouldn't the US not get games that people such as Jack Thomson don't like? I mean, he believes himself to be in tune with the primary religious thoughts of the US. In reality, he holds as much sway over popular belief as... well, as the Church of England does in the UK.

Fact is, it's a popular game, so it makes sense to bundle it with the system.

Um..I guess a more apt analogy would be packing a game in a bundle that is going to Italy that the Vatican disapproves of. Jack Thompson is not in anyway influental in the US, and certainly isn't as well known in the US as COE is in the UK.

I have really been waiting to play resistance, and Killzone 2. But I was holding out for the 80Gb to hit the shelves of the UK.

I love my 360, but I really want to get a PS3. But I said that until I get a 46" 1080p, I wouldn't get a PS3 as I can't get the most out of Blu-ray.

Unlike most people I am actually really pleased that the PS3 has blu-ray. I would use it all the time, and it gives developers more space to work with.

And at £400 in most places with a Blu-ray movie, A game or 2, a 2nd controller and often an HDMI cable, I think it was better value than my £369 360 which came with PGR3 and a controller that no longer charges, I have to switch the battery to another controller to charge it, and then switch it back.

Well, I was starting to consider buying a PS3 some time soon, but it looks like I might have to wait a few years for it to come down in price. I do not spend £425 on a games console, especially one that has few worth while games out at the moment (even though I just spent £1300 on a new PC). There's already over £400 worth of games for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PC that interest me coming out in this year alone!

The reason they didn't announce any new games is because they don't have any. They are banking everything on MGS4. Great strategy Sony, congrats, you lose. Kojima would not outright say "there is no 360 version at all." So you don't announce any new games, and you don't give the Euro's any chance of a price cut. MotorStorm and Resistence must be the most awesome games out in Europe if you think that it will move your system, Well it hasn't worked yet.

I gotta ask... with over 40 games announced from Sony alone... SONY ALONE, where is the lack of games, exactly? I mean, I agree that it's not exactly the well rounded excellence Cosmic Family, Code Lyoko, and Carnival Games... but Sony can't be perfect...

Come on now. It's completely ignorant to say the PS3 is banking everything on MGS4. I'll list five other upcoming PS3 games that will most likely be great:

Heavenly Sword
Warhawk
Unreal Tournament 3 (Better on the PS3 because of keyboard & mouse/PC mod support)
LittleBigPlanet
Ratchet and Clank Future: Subtitle

And those were just off the top of my head.

I agree the decision to stop dropping the price is kind of dumb, but hey, since when can you trust anything Sony says? :P

Of those other 5 games you listed, none of them will be as good as 360's lineup. 5 future games from the top of my head:
1) Fable 2
2) Too Human
3) Huxley
4) Splinter Cell 5
5) Alan Wake

and now for five games very close to release:
1) Blue Dragon
2) Eternal Sonata
3) Halo 3
4) Mass Effect
5) Bioshcok (already released)

By the way, Heavenly Sword only scored a 7/10 on IGN, wonder what the other sites will give it since IGN tends to be generous and somewhat accurate on the ratings.

Yeah so Count Noobula is semi corrct...Sony is kinda Banking on MGS 4 all those other titles besides Ratchet and Clank which isnt exactly a system mover and GT5 which is a huge game in its own right all the others are un-proven...So the only titles they have that is garaunteed sales is MGS which honestly doesnt sale that much. And GT5 which sales a ton....So we will see

Proof that Sony has abandoned the common gamer to chase hardcore gamers: The only way to buy the PS3 is bundled an 18+ game! Millions of teens bought PS2s, and millions more parents bought PS2s for their kids. Sony won't be selling any PS3s to those teens or parents with an 18+ game bundled with the system.

How very considerate of them! Now everyone with a ps3 has plenty of spare cash to get a 360, bioshock, halo 3, eternal sonata, blue dragon, the orange box, asassins creed,PGR4,Pro Evo7,GH3...etc

Damn microsoft, never thinking of its customers with your near simultaneous worldwide releases if games and amazing holiday lineup. What about US!? Dont you know we in europe LIKE only having very few games to choose from? Dont you know we LOVE to wait around needlessly for things? We loved queueing in the war! let us queue again!

Im ashamed of you microsoft, why cant you be more like sony? or nintendo! Nintendo know the score! Keeping LAUNCH games away from europe for so long ( about a year!) that by the time theyre released the hype has died down and you dont give a shit anymore. It saves you money! Why pay when you can let your console collect dust like a real man?

...i think that was probably the most 'fanboy'ish post i've ever written. Thats decades of hatred at europe getting the short end of the deal there folks.

The "fewer games to concentrate on 'pillar' titles" seems like Nintendo right out of the N64 era.

And that worked out great, didn't it?

I'm missing the PS2. Which, incidently, had precisely the opposite strategy: There was tons of crap, but whatever the hell your niche *was*, you'd find something you liked.

How to market stuff in Europe.

Step 1) Release it almost half a year or so later than the US, so that the Hype has totally died and no one buys the game.
Step 2) Use these lack of sales due to failed hype to charge almost twice as much as the US. (Last year 360 games cost about $100 in £s)
Step 3) Hold back exclusive titles from Europe that Japan and/or the US get.
Step 4) Make sure to never price cut, or if you do have a price cut, it must be a year later than the US.
Step 5) Give far less support.
Step 6) ????
Step 7) PROFIT.

Now I've been a nintendo Fanboy since my childhood, firing up my SNES and playing Super Mario Allstars etc, but unfortunatly, nintendo is one of the worst people at marketing in Europe. They have however been better recently by releasing Striker's Charged over here earlier, but it's still god damn annoying.

As much as it pains me to say it, the people who truly try and market to Europe are Microsoft and I'm sick of this crap. Fucking game companies.

I remember getting my 360 at launch, and until GOW and Vegas came out I only had CoD2, PGR3 and Quake 4. For the first year they were the only games I wanted, but now I have and am about to buy loads more games. It took a good year before MS got it's act together regarding games.

So if by March, because that is a year after all territories had launch (well most), there are no games then I will cry for Sony Exec blood, but until then I applaud Sony for launching what appears to be a reliable console.

I was talking to a relative the other day about how USA unfairly complains about 360 prices, a game is $60 and the console is $400. I pay on average $80, but $90 is RRP for a game and my console was $540.

Europe really does get screwed, but we pay the prices so the companies just keep on doing it.

tbh, its not the prices that bother me- if i really want a game i'll pay full price, and most of the games i REALLY want are ones which are going to be worth the extra cash ( like bioshock ) anyways. What bugs me is the waiting, and the mysterious moving release dates. How many times has a game been scheduled for Q1 and been bumped to Q3, or worse, Q4 to take advantage of the holiday spending. How many times has a game been scheduled for release then just never appeared? How many times have we waited then got an inferior version with horrible borders and a slower framerate?

Microsoft are really setting the standard now, being able to go buy bioshock without having everything spoilt for me online first is fantastic- and only makes the burn from having a ps2 last gen and a wii as a second console this gen all the more painful.
