Song list for Jam Sessions reveals Beck, Bob Dylan, and others
Ubisoft has announced the official track list for Jam Sessions, the DS guitar simulator known formerly as the hard-to-swallow Hiite Utaeru DS Guitar M-06.Songs include Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone," Beck's "Jackass," and Coldplay's "Yellow." The 17 tracks feature a solid range from mainstream pop, to reggae, to good ol' rock & roll. Like M-06, Jam Sessions will step players through the chords of each song, allowing them to rock out with their whatevers out. Of course, Jam Sessions will still feature the free-play modes that made the original such a viral sensation. After an initial delay at the start of the summer, Jam Sessions is currently scheduled release on September 11th, and we can't wait for it. Check out the full song list after the break.

That's some pretty good variety.
This random internet user approves, for what it's worth.

This is just sheet music. It's not a rhythm game but has been disguised as one. Also it's to plant their own music franchise.
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 24th 2007 9:36PM
I have the best sources too. My pet birds.

Not a horrid list FWIW
bounchfx @ Aug 24th 2007 10:40PM
people are going to be disappointed as shit when they actually get this game. It's terrible
sheppy @ Aug 24th 2007 10:58PM
It's not a game....
bounchfx @ Aug 24th 2007 10:59PM
It's not fun either.

It's really cool and if you understand that you're getting a guitar simulator, basically an instrument, and NOT a game (although they have tried to add game-like traits, about the level of "games" in 'learn to type' programs) you'll be having fun.
There's really no need to hate on this release, it doesn't try to be 'guitar hero' or anything... The best thing to do if you're curious about it is to look up some of the many videos on YouTube showing it in action.
I bought the Japanese import and I'm buying this one too, for the 'recording' capability, allowing you to 'record' your riffs and playing, although I keep putting 'record' in quotes as it's essentially just recording the timing and note info and playing it back, like MIDI information, not really an audio recording from what I can tell.

It's not a game. It's a guitar-sim. And to that effect, it is VERY impressive.
sheppy @ Aug 24th 2007 11:00PM
I'll largely be using this app to record some various samples. I'm far better with a keyboard or trigger finger than a guitar and having the ability to digitally pluck away a sample I need would be awesome. Also keep in mind I once greated a song comprised of nothing but NanoPlankton noise. Granted, directly afterwards, my computer killed itself and I lost that particular .sfs but the deed had occured.

But that's like complaining that Photoshop is the worst first person shooter ever. This program is a tool, not a game. The fact that it's being published at all is a miracle. Next thing you know, you'll be bitching about the GPS add-on for PSP because the combo system sucks.
bounchfx @ Aug 24th 2007 11:18PM
I had high hopes for the game/tool. I played it. I was disappointed as shit. Within 10 minutes I wanted to break the thing. If some people can enjoy it - awesome, more power to you.
ThornedVenom @ Aug 24th 2007 11:24PM
"Photoshop is the worst first person shooter ever."
That cracked me up. But hey, at least we can't argue about the lack of user-created content!
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 24th 2007 11:47PM
That's what they said about Wii Weather Channel. That Shanghai typhoon was a real toughie.
ThornedVenom @ Aug 24th 2007 11:22PM
I don't play the guitar, but this game/simulation catches my interest.
Do you reckon that it'd be good for me? At least you really learn something here (despite being just "sheet music")... (oh, and I'm assuming that guitarists might rather opting the real guitar solution)
.... I'm sounding like a one-man Guitar Hero debate machine.
Megaqwerty @ Aug 25th 2007 2:06PM
And you guys forgot about the other major thing in this:
Ear training. Now with the ability to save your progress!
I dig that.
rocko @ Aug 25th 2007 6:19PM
whoa, Blind Melon!??! Totally buying this
Overgauss @ Aug 25th 2007 11:24PM
The DS needs more pseudo aps imo. And by pseudo I mean dolled up for the non-discriminating user. Imagine Mario teaching chem/lang via flashcards etc or using the red and green shells in mario kart to illustrate math concepts. Or programming or Vedic Math, etc etc.
