Japanese hardware sales, Aug. 13 - Aug. 19: Offensive defense edition

As long as Sony would be pushing up the crap, many studios would be spending many man/days (== $$$) on game development. And it probably would be even profitable - in their "10 year plan".

But what's really happening is, that many studios have invested lots of money into PS3. And the investments will not pay back. (Because in two years new games would arrive succeeding most actual games.)

In short/mid-term, Wii shouldn't expect any kind of good 3rd party games - only shitty ports. Because all money got wasted on PS3... ;_;

There are so many things wrong with their NPD numbers, in so many ways. Well, then again, it is being run by the most extreme fanboys. I bet there is even a Microsoft Defense Force at this point. At this point, someone should just crown Nintendo as the winner in this gen, since they are pounding everyone both in asia and the states

Apparently Sony *destroyed* not only the 360, but also the Wii. Of course, Sony's 595k hardware units includes not just the PS3, but also the PS2, and PSP.

That's just pathetic Sony fanboy logic. If we were to look at this situation rationally, we would see that the DS actually sold 810k screens, while the PS2 and PS3 don't even come with screens!

Yeah, it is definately a satirical site. I think it is somewhat funny, but mostly just dumb. Reading the Bioshock review was pretty hilarious, though. The site is more likely run by people who are not Sony fanboys. Not necessarily anti-Sony, but definately not real fanboys of the Playstation brand.

It's kinda like how Steven Colbert is a "conservative" on his show, but only satirically. In real life, he is a "liberal". I put conservative and liberal in quotes because I hate the terms and think they are mostly misused and bogus ways to dismiss arguments contrary to your own beliefs and to mindlessly agree with other arguments. Yet I don't see any other real way to classify people's political beliefs within the average American's 5 second attention span.

The terms are a crutch for mindless people that want to think they are contributing to public debate. They allow them to avoid thinking logically for themselves on various issues and instead just align themselves with some prefabricated right vs. wrong, as if the topics are really that simple. It gives you a way to think your way of thinking is right all the time.

Kinda like fanboyism, I guess. Man do I have the tendency to get off topic and make posts so long that nobody in their right mind would read them. If you got this far, I feel sorry for you.

I'd say that's a pretty accurate description of the situation. If you look at Japanese software sales, Hot Shots is the only PS3 game in the top 30 (the rest are PS2, Wii, and DS games). Everyone knows by now that Wii sales are only a measure of how many Nintendo can make, as demand has far outstripped supply.

What are you saying??? Wii its outselling every other console in any place.

In fact, the Wii, in only 8 months, has sold more units than the 360 in 2 years.

Get real, the iPod is to Music players in Japan as Levi's are to Jeans. Its a fashion accessory.

The Japs don't like the 360, because it's not made or designed there, its as simple as that.

Japanese have particular tastes in games. Just like we do.

It is practically impossible for foreign company to develop game which would be successful in Japan.

You have to be there, live in the environment - to be able to make something what would interest them. It is that simple.

P.S. It's like complaining that chopsticks are selling poorly here (US/Europe) because they are all made in Japan/China and we do not want to support foreign producers. But reality is that chopsticks are just not our thing. Same goes for games.

Mario, Metal Gear, Tekken, Ico, Bomberman, Sonic, Starfox, Zelda, Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy, Dead Rising, Megaman, Silent Hill, Ghouls n' Ghosts, Kirby, Resident Evil, and Fire Emblem (and much more) all suck

And it sold less than half as much as the DS Lite. The DS Lite actually sold more than everything else on the list combined (including its phat brother)!
