We admit it. Our
writeup of Wil Wheaton's PAX keynote didn't manage to capture the palpable energy of the crowd. And that's why we're happy to present you with this here audio file which should manage to better communicate the cheers of adulation and camaraderie. But don't go thinking audio is an infallible format! For example, can you hear the audience's fists pumping in the air during the speech's high energy moments? You may be able to
feel it, but you can't hear it. So there.

Good listen.

I've never heard "You've died of dysentery" get such an outrageous applause.

Oregon Trail. That and Super Munchers are the only good edutainment titles. I studied a lot of trivia just to play Super Munchers on many different topics.
Alcevious @ Aug 26th 2007 9:25PM
I never thought there would be another Super Munchers lover in the world. I remember playing that on an old Gateway 2000 computer, the type of thing you couldn't even install Windows 95 on.

what about carmen sandiego in world/time/whatever? i ruled at those games back in 4th/5th grade
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 27th 2007 9:21AM
I played two rounds of Carmen Sandiego. I got frustrated because my dad would have been perfect to solve everything and that I had to freaking make warrants.

I didn't have a problem with Wil Wheaton until, while being very vocal when the video game voice actors were going to strike for more money, he went so far as to say that the voice actors should get royalties. That's pretty arrogant (or greedy), given that many developers rarely give royalty bonuses to the artists and programmers who work long hours for months or years on a game. So for Wil to think that the couple of hours spent recording his voice is worth more than the thousands of hours put in by those that actually make the game is ridiculous.
It just shows that, despite all of his "geek cred," Wil is still just another of the self-important, egocentric Hollywood asses who think the world revolves around actors, and who are delusionally ignorant of how the rest of the world actually works.

Very entertaining speech.

Probably the one of the highlights of the show this year, only to be topped by Uwe Boll coming right after him, lol...
The lines to get his new book, or something signed, were pretty annoyingly long each of the days of the show.
Good times.
