For fear of getting buried in flames, i didn't say this over at joystiq, but damn was their slant on this inflammatory

THIS is what that article title should've been, this doesn't really say anything good or bad, but certainly doesn't flame like it did over there

I'm getting really sick of the whole "Nintendo's dropping hardcore gamers like a hot potato" mentality that's brewed since E3. Especially since its completely unfounded

With Mr Khan's words, and after reading the comments at Joystiq, I'm glad you didn't (properly) link to the blogpost at Joystiq, Dave.

It is a flamefest.

The reality is that "us hardcore gamers" will buy Nintendo products no matter when or how they announce them. They didn't need a whole press conference to announce "Wii" (The name), and yet the Internets burst into flames.

That said, I wish Nintendo would put a bit more emphasis on us, a word on Smash Bros or Mario Kart Wii, hell, I'll take any news for Disaster: Day of Crisis, which is now nowhere to be found in either Wii.com or Nintendo's gamesite. Now *that* really pisses me off.

It's the older/younger brother mentality. New baby brother is getting lots of love and attention and older whiny brother is getting jealous. He's still receiving the same amount of love and should instead be helping and loving his younger brother.

If they don't have the time, interest and capacity to play a full, reasonably hardcore game (A Zelda Game, for example), you really shouldn't be gaming at all.

@3
What do you mean by "helping and loving their younger brother."? What exactly can we do for them?

Error: Instead of "You shouldn't be gaming at all" I meant to have put "They shouldn't be gaming at all"

@3(cont.) Also, if at Nintendo's little presentation thingies, like this one, there is NO news whatsoever on the topic of non-causal games, then, to add to your metaphor, Nintendo is being a very bad parent, paying more attention to the "younger bro" than to the :older bro" is fine, but when the "older bro" is being completely neglected, when nintendo doesn't even talk about our games, that is going to far. {Sorry, these sentences are kind of awkward.)

@ Irit H, yes, their Liepzig showcase ran with the casuals, but their PAX showcase did just the opposite (Metroid, Fire Emblem ahoy)

Just like people think its all casual for 2008. The only 3 titles we KNOW about are Disaster: day of crisis, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii

really we don't know much about their 08 lineup

Can't we all just get along? It looked nice. Can't we not battle over consumerism?

I'm just saying it only looks like we're being ignored but we're still getting loved. If we help raise help our less experienced gamers they can share interests with us.

Man, that article in joystiq and the comments that followed were horrible.

I honestly don't know why I bother reading the comments in any article, but I'm glad I didn't get involved.

At any rate though, I'd like to think the Virtual Console was meant for the hardcore, I mean we do have Ocarina of Time, Link to the Past, Gunstar Heroes, SimCity, and Super Metroid to just name a few. Though, maybe hardcore is just too vague of a definition for me to understand it.

First of all, 2008 will be fine. I've been thinking about this one for a while, and the reason they aren't showing any of their big games for 08 is because they don't want to take away any of the hype for this years games. Because god knows we have plenty of money to waste this year already, we dont' need to worry about how much we'll be spending on its games.

And don't act like these games aren't coming we all know that nintendo will have several new IP's up its sleeve while still playing some of its big trump cards it has left.

Animal Crossing
Mario Kart
Pikmin (you know its coming)

I'm also calling these out as some of Nintendo's IP's

Kid Icarus (cause it got so much hype, and nintendo might see it as its chance to make a deep darker M title)
Punch Out (nintendo bought the rights to this a year and a half back ago...they must have bought it with some intention)

Plus Disaster Day of Crisis, maybe a real Donkey Kong (crosses fingers), Baten Kaios...hell idk...

my point is!

Nintendo isn't gonna drop the ball when it comes to delivering us games, its survived soley by doing that for the past 2 generations. Now that the wii is the mainstream system it is going to get the same flood of games just as the playstation 2 did.

~there will not be a lack of hardcore games~

This hardcore gamers vs. casual gamers is so ridiculous. Just look at the DS. There are tons of casual games and there are still many great games for hardcore gamers.

The point with the Wii and the DS is that Nintendo EXPANDS their target audience and does not SHIFT their target audience. So you will have to get used to having some mommies and daddies owning the same system as you. If you do not like this and want to be more "exclusive" then go out and buy a NeoGeo.

I play Brain Age as well as FF3 on the DS and I will buy Wii Fit as well as Metroid Prime 3 and Disaster and whatever good game will come up. So I suppose I am a hardcore casual or so. It is just nice that I have a library of games which I can play with lots of different people. I even got my mum to play Rayman Raving Rabbids and she likes it. Remember the time where parents told you that videogames are satans work? This can change now too :)

Now I really think that Nintendo does cater to the hardcore gamer. I have playing since the mid 80's and I for one know what hardcore games are. Yeah Nintendo might be putting their advertising bucks to use towards the casual gamer but that is only because the hardcore gamer is already sucked in. Look at what is still to come this year alone. We have Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, BWii, SSBB, MP3, and Super Mario Galaxies just to name a few. Also to be honest yeah the Nintendo online scene isn't that great yet but by the end of this year it will be booming with great games. Just check out Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 up to 16 players in one match with multiple online modes. Can anyone say it will be like Ghost Recon with a WW2 twist? I can as long as the big N fixes some issues with their online play but that may be why they are releasing online games right now in small doses so they can work out the bugs before the big guns get released.

So yeah Nintendo is giving a lineup to the hardcore gamer just not all is going to come our way. One thing that I am happy about is they have games that I can play and at the same time my six year old has his games too, I don't see Sony or Microsoft doing this. Hell even my wife has games that she loves and that she is looking forward to that to me is another plus for Nintendo. I am even thinking of buying another Wii just so I can play my games since the rest of the family now plays.

> They shouldn't be gaming at all

It can't get more inflammatory than that.

F*** you.

If I do not want to spend hours training my fingers to hit some combo perfectly 20 times in row to pass level - I "shouldn't be gaming at all"?

If I do not want to spend weeks leveling up in game to pass particular level - I "shouldn't be gaming at all"?

If I do not want to see shitty games like Wii's RE4 getting 9/10 reviews - I "shouldn't be gaming at all"?

If I sick of all the Mario pr0n joysiq and friends are pushing up - I "shouldn't be gaming at all"?

Live in denial then. Mario is great. RE4 is outstanding. And spending hours before TV with classical controller in hands - repeating same level countless times - is norm of life and is as it should be.

Well, I pity you. For one, I play games to actually enjoy them. To experience something new. For you it seems just to be replacement of a girlfriend. Go on living under your rock.

Wow I write a comment (see number 12) and then this guy (13) erupts in a spew of brain fart.

For starters if it takes you hours to even learn how to perfect a button combination in a game yeah your right you shouldn't be playing games. At the same time if it takes you weeks to level up to just get past a level then maybe you should be checked for downs syndrome (no offense to those that suffer from this disease.)

Also on a side note if you learn to read then you will see that I don't play games to replace a girlfriend I have a wife and kids. So I am thinking that maybe you are in denial that you are really a looser with no life other than a video game. I can almost bet that you are the kind of kid that masturbates to the girls of DOA. Here is a thought maybe you should get out of your mommas basement, find a job, make some money, and buy yourself a life; and while your at it if you are going to try and flame someone for their comments then maybe just maybe you should actually pay attention in school and learn how to write. Hey even a formal writing class might help you in your life.
