Is Dread back from the dead? Maybe -- or perhaps MP3 developer Retro is just pulling an insider's gag. It's time for Nintendo to fess up.

I feel a lot was lost in the transition to 3D (hate me, whatever) so I would really like to see a new 2D metroid. But I'd really like to see it on a home console. Imagine how good 2D games could look with todays technology.

Sooner or later, I'm going to snap and buy a DS...even though handheld gaming, no matter how good the game is, can't hold my attention for more than 15 minutes.
I hate those small screens.

Why does everyone keep referring to Retro with regards to this potential game? I suppose they may be responsible for the teaser message, but they almost certainly would not have anything to do with the actual game were it to exist. Retro only makes the 3d Metroid games - Fusion, for instance, was made by Nintendo's R&D1. I would even bet that the message itself may have come from Nintendo's people rather than directly from someone at Retro, but there's no way to determine that. In any case, I certainly hope it's telling the truth.

Metroid Dread is currently a legend, it was mentioned at some point as the sequel to Metroid Fusion, a DS side-scroller, but Nintendo never said anything official about it
My guess is that they're just pulling our chain, though. I mean Gruntilda made an allusion to a "Banjo-Threeie" at the end of Banjo Tooie, and that game never materialized on a Nintendo platform, and is still only in a developmental state, many years later and under a different company
