Super C, Breath of Fire II, Ghouls'n Ghosts now on Wii VC
A trio of sequels lands on Wii Virtual Console today:-Super C (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): "C" stands for Contra in this sequel to, um, Contra. Don't forget, Konami swtiched up the Code -- it's now: right, left, down, up, A, B (10 extra lives, not 30).
-Breath of Fire II (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Arguably the high point in Capcom's JRPG series, this sequel is a respected 16-bit era adventure about an orphan dude and his dog-faced pal. Trust us, it's a decent storyline.
-Ghouls'n Ghosts (Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): The sequel to the most irritatingly difficult side-scroller ever (EVAR!). Capcom toned down the difficulty, but not by much...

Breath of Fire II had a horrible translation. I won't even call it a localization! It was so bad that one town person told you to go to one town when in actuality you were supposed to go to another.
Otherwise, it was pretty fun. Also, it's the first game I ever played with the word "damn" in it.

Where the hell is Contra?!?!.....wait....when Contra 4 is released for the DS then we'll get Contra NES on the VC......I'm starting to see a pattern. So I guess we can say that Super Smash Bros for the N64 will be released one week before Brawl =)

I'm glad that the Konami code (or a form of it) works for Super C, I might actually be able to make it through the game then. BoF2 looks like a maybe purchase, I'll have to wait until I get some reviews of it to decide. Plus, I've already got plenty to keep me busy for the next few weeks.

BoFII FTW!
Seiru @ Aug 27th 2007 5:55PM
I would have rather had BoF :/
Donald @ Aug 27th 2007 6:18PM
BoF was published by SquareSoft, and we all know Squeenix's stance on the Virtual Console.

Breath of Fire II is so bought.

I was halfway through a fangirl "squee" when I read about Breath of Fire II, until I realized that I have the GBA version to play on my DS. Just like Zelda LttP, I'd rather have my take-along version than a VC version.
And the horrible translation is one of those things that, this long afterward, endear a game to me. Take FF6: The "new" translation for the GBA is still mostly Woosley, and what changes were made are technically for the better, but there's a lot to be said for the nostalgia of it all.
...Then again, I still giggle if any sort of AYB reference is made, if that gives you any insight to my opinion of older translations.

I'll never get over the music in the GBA versions of both BoF's though. :( Especially 1, with its fantastic sounding instruments.
PhydeWice @ Aug 27th 2007 9:47PM
I know there are people that already have the GBA version and will get the VC version anyway.

I wasn't going to leave a comment, because I assumed that someone else had already left a recommendation for G & G, but Whaaaaa......???? Nobody is here to extol the virtues of one of the top 10 platformers of all time!!!!!! For those of you with a modicum of patience, pick up this game and BEHOLD the beauty of one of the sterner tests of gaming yore! Aside from the fantastic gameplay, this game has some of the most beautiful game art and music of the 16-bit era, and I would argue it is the best. This game should not be forgotten, and now you all have a reason to find out why!

Maybe everybody's already played it on one of the 50,000 Capcom Classic Collections they've been milking wallets with for the past 5 years.
...still, this one is my favorite out of the G&G series, if only because you can shoot up and down.
BrennaCeDria @ Aug 28th 2007 11:21AM
I only didn't say anything about it because I'm still planning to get the SNES version next time I get some Wii points.

I see Sega's finally letting third-party games onto the VC with Ghouls and Ghosts (Treasure doesn't really count personally; if I recall correctly, Sega released both Gunstar and Headdy, so they're still technically Sega games). Here's hoping this means we'll be seeing some of Konami's games on the system soon; Contra Hard Corps and Castlevania Bloodlines rocked.
