I've been hearing nothing but good things about Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure for Wii...well, other than the name, perhaps. It's looking to be quite solid and original; nice job Capcom.

I was a little too young for most of the point-and-clicks when they first came out, but I did play through and love the first three Myst games. I'm definitely picking this up, if for nothing more than something to pop in to support a 3rd party, especially Capcom.

It's kind of hard to deny it at this point: The more things change, the more they stay the same...

"Grim Fandango is the only game, in our opinion, to successfully carry over the formula into 3D."

What about the new Sam and Max games or Hotel Dusk?

They are all tributes to Grim Fandango since neither of them improved the formula in substancial way.

I was thinking the same thing. And considering that all the articles here on the recent Sam & Max games have spoken well of it, using the collective "in our opinion" didn't seem quite right here.

And whether or not new 3D point-and-click adventure games improve upon the established formula has nothing to do with successfully carrying over the formula to 3D. It's only a matter of whether or not the fun of that existing formula is maintained in the transition, which many felt was the case with the latest Sam & Max games.

Talking about old school point and click adventures, if you're looking for good ones on PC - Runaway 1 & 2 are for you :) Great stories, lots of humor, they reminded me of Monkey Island and the likes. Dunno if they were ever published in the US though...

The graphics don't sell the game, not because they are "kiddie" or "last-gen", but just because cell-shaded graphics tend to look like budget-game graphics when reduced to thumbnails! If I just saw a thumbnail on a website or a box in a store, I would not be compelled to look further into the game.

Fortunately I know more about the game (thanks to Joystiq), and I'll definately be picking it up!

"Until someone really does something new with this genre I'm going to get the been there done that feeling."

Is that not what this game is doing? Evolving the gameplay through implementation of motion control, just like a Wii game should? Of course, you'll never know one way or the other, because you'll never look into it beyond a few screen shots.

unless it gets some bad reviews, i'll pick this one up, we should all support this kind of original games if we want to put an end to all those wii-ports and annoying party games. I just wish the next one they make is not SO kiddy, graphically speaking.

Shouldn't this be considered a 'Point & Waggle' adventure?

"Grim Fandango is the only game, in our opinion, to successfully carry over the formula into 3D."

Ugh, please. I don't know how you could think that there's a difference in gameplay between a polygonally-rendered game like Grim Fandango or Quest for Glory 5 and any non-polygon point-and-click adventure game out there. People just don't get it; it didn't "go 3D" because the adventure genre already was 3D to begin with. Just like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, The Legend of Zelda or Grand Theft Auto, at one point, the characters and settings were simply brought to life in a different way. In an analogy, take The Simpsons; it's a traditionally animated show in that it's not drawn with polygons, but the world being drawn in 2D is actually as three-dimensional as ours. You can't place blame for the downfall of a gameplay genre on the advent of a new and popular rendering technique! Blame something real like how unpopular it became. And dispite what everyone thinks, Viewtiful Joe, Super Smash Brothers, and LittleBigPlanet are all 2D games being brought to your screen with polygons, but that doesn't mean they're 3D games at all, don't you understand?

Ranting complete.

What someone needs to do is make a co-op version of a game like this.

One of the main selling factors of the Wii has been that parents have been buying it to play with their kids. Thats why minigames have been so prevalent.

But instead of just overflowing the market with minigames, devs need to think about WHY families buy minigames.. because they can play them together easily.

SIngleplayer games on the Wii are just never gonna sell as well as family games.. so they need to start including casual, drop-in-drop-out co-op in every game they possibly can. (Lego Star Wars style).

Not to mention the fact that a co-op adventure game where you have to work together would rock...
