Or should that headline read Halo 3's Mountain Dew ad? Hmm, chicken or the egg? Anyway, ever do a multiplayer match of Halo online? If so, then this advertisement for the Mountain Dew/Halo 3 soda should make perfect sense. Look at all the people screaming in their languages, it's so international. Wonder if the Halo 3 version of Mountain Dew is even available in all those countries featured?
This is only one small part of the product tie-ins we can expect throughout the next couple months regarding that which is the Halo 3. Just remember the Halo hype-machine-of-madness is so high that you can even pick up a copy of the game at your local 7-Eleven at Midnight on Sept. 25 -- don't forget to pre-order.
I see this as selling to those Halo fans but giving a bad image to them. I mean really, they're showing kids and adults banging their heads and moaning. While true that's not a stereotype gamers want to be associated with.
True that. What really get my gears grinding is how the sophisticated, refined Sony gamers paint Xbox gamers (and FPS gamers in general) as anti-intellectual, over-caffeinated cavemen. You know..."Boom Headshot!!!" That type.
I hope people don't think this is what hardcore gamers are really like. I think the South Park WOW episode does a better job of showing what true hardcore gamers are like.
This isn't what hardcore gamers are like? I don't know about you, but if I'm really into a game and keep getting humiliated by someone hopped up on "gamer fuel," I'm gonna start cursing and yelling too.
Heck, soccer fans do the same, and they aren't even playing.
nothing says Gamer Fuel like mountain dew code red and livewire syrups mixed together. (what, did you seriously expect a 3rd flavor to appear like livewire black?)
I happen to like live wire mountain dew...despite the fact that its TERRIBLE gamer fuel, because Sugar (Especialy High Fructose Corn Syrup)raises your bood sugar for a few minutes (about 20 or so) and than SHARPLY drops it (to the point where its acutally lower than when it was before you drank the mountain dew, hence the "Crash")
REAL gamer fuel is a B-Vitamin infused Coffee with extra caffiene sweetened with regular frutose sugar (it has a much slower increase and decrease in blood sugar and it doesn't make you crash)
Are you serious? Everybody has that friend that hates to lose and throws controllers...They hell kinda hardcore gamers are you talking about...Hardcore gamers get emotionally involed in games and yell when they feel they got cheated, or died because someone keeps usin the N00B combo, Man those are the great times that makes gaming fun....Hell even sports stars like that French guy that head butted that dude in the World cup got emotionally involved in the game, so anyone passionate about what they do tends to become emotionally involved so maybe they don't realize what they do.. So I think that commercial creates us pretty well...Now just to make it more Haloish they should have 15 year olds with a sailors mouth....LOL... I loved this commercial though...Especially when that guy threw the controller and it bounced back high off the ground...LMAO
Don't know about that comparison between the French soccer guy and this, the person he head-butted made a remark about wanting to sleep with his little sister, soo :P
Still he knew he was out of line...He could have handled that after the game and he almost cost his team the world cup because of that...But he was in the middle of a game so his emotions were high...Thats all I was trying to get at..When we play games we are emotional..So we might say something dumb or do something crazy if we lose or win
you know whats cool about this? this is the sort of advertisement you would expect to see with a big summer blockbuster movie not a video game, just goes to show games have come a long way
That's a really great point. Love Halo, hate Halo, or just like it, you gotta admit that it is cool that a video game is garnering this much mainstream attention. I've seen a few cover articles on msn.com about random Halo details and videos.
Has a major consumer product like Mountain Dew ever partnered with a video game franchise to co-market their product? I can't recall ever seeing it. I mean, advertisements are common. But co-marketing, that is usually for movies.
I look forward to Halo the game. It is my second most anticipated title for this year. It is a big deal to me. But, I also look forward to seeing how big of a deal Halo ends up being in general. I want to know if non-gamers will talk about it. I want to see if 360's become sold out. I want to see if it sets single day entertainment records. That stuff would all be pretty cool.
I'm reading way to much into this but. You noticed it's the american who's winning? Mountain Dew fail. Moving on. What does game fuel actually taste like. It looks exactly like Scotland's own Irn Bru (Iron Brew) but I have no idea, I've only tasted Irn Bru.
I just happened to pick up a bottle last night at a check out line because I was thirsty and my options were limited. As far as soda goes, Mountain Dew is one of the few I'll drink and this variety impressed me. The only thing I can think to relate it to was the Mountain Dew Code Red, but way better- Game Fuel has a splash of citrus and a strong cherry flavor. I'd drink it regardless of the Chief's endorsement ;-)
Oh here we go preaching about stereotyping gamers. I doubt most people have their ass handed to them online in Halo and don't experience some anger and dissapointment. That's what keeps people coming back. Hearing some kid on the other end of the headphones lose his cool because you've just killed him for the 3rd time in a row is great. Now will jacking yourself up with Dew make you a better gamer? Briefly I guess until the caffiene high wears off and the sugar crash kicks in.
Clearly, everyone other than the American is upset, because it's the American who's hosting the game and as such, suffers no lag. Meanwhile, everyone else is trying to play with a ping around 250. Clearly.
I actually like the taste of this... though yeah, it has way too much stuff to just drink it normally. >_> Needs a diet, but it won't happen because its just a limited edition soda.
ey you never know...If its successful enough Pepsi might make it an official flavor...And put different high profile games on the bottle...But then Halo would be opening doors for other games and Fanboy Trolls don't want that...they want Halo to fail of course!
Did anyone notice that everyone except the guy who was winning (drinking the fuel) was playing with a black 360 controller? (he played with a normal white)
not saying its supposed to mean anything, just an odd little fact
Oh, and i think that, for a collaberation between two advertising icons of the "extreme generation," (Mountain Dew and the Xbox brand) this commercial was fairly unobnoxious, indeed rather enjoyable
Funny ad, but all I have to say is, who in the hell wants to be hanging around in a 7-Eleven at midnight? I can think of better things to get shot for, thanks. :P
Yeah, waiting in line for a major release = get shot Waiting in line at a 711 at midnight = get shot Waiting in line at 711 at midnight for major release = get shot two times
Just pre-order it and pick it up after work/school like a reasonable human being making a concious effort not to be shot.
It's a rip-off of a European commercial that showed nearly identical scenes of overly-enthusiastic fans watching a soccer game, and then showed one guy sitting in his new car (the intention was to show that he liked the car so much that he prefered sitting in the car over watching a major soccer match).
I'm more amazed that no one noticed that there were exactly zero Japanese people in the commercial. It is, at least, somewhat accurate in that respect...
I mean... there was an Asian looking guy who was clearly American, and they dubbed over the beginning, but still. If nothing else, that one fact amused me.
Stan Winston is doing some commercial for Halo. I went through their shop and saw nothings but little soldiers and brutes, like a few hundred. Some cool stuff. I can't wait to see the commercials roll out next month.
