GT5 Prologue out this year via PSN and Blu-ray
Sony Europe has announced that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be out this year as both a traditional Blu-ray release and as a PlayStation Network download.
The game will feature 40 cars. Racing locations noted in the press release include Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka. As previously discussed, Prologue will feature 16-player online matches. Unsurprisingly, the game will run at 1080p and 60fps, though the replays will only play back at 30fps. Also mentioned in the press release is Gran Turismo TV, a channel for the PlayStation Network that gives access to "a world of great motoring TV programming online."
No details have been announced as to whether the Blu-ray release will, like Warhawk, contain extra content. If Prologue isn't enough for you, the full Gran Turismo 5 is due out in 2008.

Why do they say "also will be available on BluRay?" Just seems dumb seeing how its a PS3 game.. all retail games are Blu-Ray. I smell a marketing plug.
Silver R. Wolfe @ Aug 29th 2007 3:04PM
It's not a retail game, it's a prologue to the upcoming GT5 release, a sampler if you will. I had originally expected it to be PSN only, especially with the rumours of it being a free download.
Cellien @ Aug 29th 2007 3:08PM
Oh, well that does make more sense :)
Mr. P @ Aug 29th 2007 3:38PM
Forza's shitty lighting effects and replay angels left a bad taste in my mouth. I can't wait to go back to GT. Oh, wait, you're practically playing bumper cars. I hate how each series has such glaring imperfections. Hopefully PD pulls through and implements some sort of damage at least.
konajinx @ Aug 29th 2007 7:06PM
Yeah, it sure is tough when those angels get in the way of racing! What's next, devils with pitchforks? Har har.
Silver R. Wolfe @ Aug 29th 2007 3:05PM
Those screenshots are better than sex.
Komp @ Aug 29th 2007 3:08PM
I wonder if you've had sex
Silver R. Wolfe @ Aug 29th 2007 3:09PM
Right back atcha. :P
The only sex better than these screenshots is gay sex, it's awesome.
Jerk Face @ Aug 29th 2007 3:12PM
Wow. That might be the first pro-gay sex comment I've seen on Joystiq.
Good for you, chief!
Matt B @ Aug 29th 2007 3:18PM
Next time on "how to catch a predator".....
Silver R. Wolfe @ Aug 29th 2007 3:20PM
@Jerk Face
I do what I can. :P

Lovely BULLShots.
Pity in game looks BAD.
*I* think that they need to optimise graphics VERY VERY much.
After puting 16 cars on track they *CUT* GTHD soooo much it's not even funny:

@ Anonim
Glad to see you spread your anti-PS3 tricks again ;)
Here is some SD cam in game footage and guess what? It still looks stunning. Does that mean the game will be any good? No.

I don't care what side of the fence you're on, you have to give credit where it's due.
Anonim @ Aug 29th 2007 6:00PM
Yes the ***official*** screenshots are "tricks".
Lovely.
Want aluminium hat with this?
Magus05 @ Aug 29th 2007 3:18PM
Gran Turismo TV?
Sounds kind of like Project Gotham TV...
mamardilla69 @ Aug 29th 2007 3:32PM
yeah sounds like pgr tv the only difference is that its a DEMO with way BETTER GRAPHICS BETTER TRACKS BETTER PHYSICS but yeah maybe sounds like the same
JL @ Aug 29th 2007 5:47PM
Project Gotham TV? Sounds kind of like Spike TV....
angelux @ Aug 29th 2007 11:22PM
U are sooo wrong Magus, GT TV is more like a channel where u can watch car related content.
mamardilla69 @ Aug 29th 2007 3:34PM
oh and its free what im concerned is if the bluray edition of prologue will be free
Chris @ Aug 29th 2007 3:37PM
Yikes! The jaggies hurt my eyes! That mustang looks like it was painted with sandpaper!
BNinjaC @ Aug 29th 2007 3:42PM
horribly scaled down screenshot, try
http://www.gran-turismo.com/jp/binary/images/939/p02a.jpg
Much better
Magus05 @ Aug 29th 2007 3:40PM
Congratulations mamardilla69, you've pointed out the obvious. GT5 has better graphics than PGR3, a 2 year old game. Whoop-dee-freak-in-da.
Phranctoast @ Aug 29th 2007 3:45PM
yeah. jump down his throat when mention of ANY 360 game doesnt belong here at all anyway.
Magus05 @ Aug 29th 2007 3:50PM
Haha! And jump down my throat for making a post about a video game on a video game website.
On an unrelated note, why aren't replay's 60 FPS? If it can do it in real time, why can't it do it from prerendered/saved data?
BNinjaC @ Aug 29th 2007 3:56PM
Magus05, just stop, you're starting to sound as bad as mamardilla69.
Only bad can come for that!
WiNG @ Aug 29th 2007 3:42PM
I just wanna say: someone give me that car!
Jake @ Aug 29th 2007 3:56PM
Have they announced what the PSN version will cost and what the bluray version will cost? How about number of cars, tracks, etc?
I understand that the PS3 Fall lineup is devoid of racing games, making this extended demo marketable. But still, are people going to pay $$$ for this glorified demo and then spend $60 for the full game in a year? That seems kinda like a rip.
It just seems like they're milking the franchise and the soft PS3 fall lineup.
bl13 @ Aug 29th 2007 4:08PM
It has been announced the PSN version will be a free download (http://uk.gamespot.com/events/leipzig07/story.html?sid=6177157&pid=942026&tag=top_stories;story;2), but I highly doubt the blu-ray version will be free. If you read Ross' post he already said it'll feature 40 cars and at least 3 tracks.
phattie @ Aug 29th 2007 5:39PM
lol ... basically 90% of the Wii line up are glorified tech demos.. try harder next time.
Ska Oreo @ Aug 29th 2007 7:08PM
Phattie. Do us all a favor and stop talking. Please.
Zeus the God @ Aug 30th 2007 4:25PM
Seriously, Phattie. You're just a troll; go back under your bridge and leave us alone.
Night Elve @ Aug 29th 2007 4:02PM
I'm pretty sure that I read I don't remember where that GT5 Prologue will be free via PSN Store.
AirIntake @ Aug 29th 2007 4:22PM
This will be great if it's free. But if you have to pay money for it, then it's bullshit.
Sean @ Aug 29th 2007 4:43PM
Why is the pit crew wearing racing helmets and crash suits? They only have one character model or something?
james @ Aug 29th 2007 11:24PM
Jaggies or not it WILL look better than Forza 2. Forza looks like a damn cartoon. Forza plays quite good but I wouldn't be suprised to see GT5 kick it in the butt. There is no issue with the technology in the 360 but the graphics developers for Forza don't understand realistic lighting or colours. GT has always been able to get a near photo realistic image on the screen even as far back as the original on PS1 (it's hard to get over the low resolution and polygon count now though).
Zeus the God @ Aug 30th 2007 4:28PM
Forza 2 looks great, no matter how you slice it. I mean, its nothing special, but it looks pretty damn good. Good enough for it to be competition with GT.
anantha92 @ Aug 30th 2007 7:08AM
CAn't you guys see the text its all messed up. that indicates that the image has been squashed giving a tupid jagged line aroud things. Is joystiq really going anit Ps3 and doing thsi on purpose? Btw i ahve seen the actual demo being palyed in 720p (not 1080p although that would be miles better) and it already looks like a dream. And for your info crews in race tracks do wear helmets its uniform.
