This is an amazing deal considering you'd spend $200+ on the HD-DVDs alone. I think I'm going to buy this up.

It's been widely noted that you can combine this with Amazon's buy 2/get 1 deal on select HD-DVDs to actually make it 9 free movies.

What's the status on the black HD-DVD drive? I don't want the accessories to clash with my new Elite now, do I?

y'know Canadians haven't had any good deals on this HD-DVD player at all. I think they best I've seen so far is a free copy of 300 at Best Buy. This is a joke, c'mon MS. We have HDTVs in Canada, y'know.

@9: Yes, it's definitely worth it. If your TV takes a 1080i signal, your picture will look the same as if it took 1080p. There's really no difference. Without getting into too much detail, 1080i will send two frames to the TV, which will put them together to give you a 1080p picture.

I only have a 720p projector, and the picture is STUNNING -- I can only imagine how good it'd look at 1080i :(

As was noted, you can get an extra free movie if you want as well. Or, for around $211, you can get a standalone player if you don't want the add-on. Check out this link:

HD DVD isn't going anywhere and they're gaining a lot of steam. Rumors are swirling that Warner will soon become HD DVD exclusive and that Lionsgate will become neutral (ie: Blu-Ray and HD DVD). Worst case scenario, both formats live for a very long time.

This format war is going to last atleast another couple of years.
People just recently started adopting DVD's and HD cable. You'd be amazed to see how many people still use VCR's.

@15: Good question. I just tried it and got one of the movies for free, but not both...

I'd order it, then send an email to Amazon and they'll correct the price for you. Or call them, that'd work too. There's some weird things going on with the sale not working in some instances (ie: if a title is out of stock, Amazon has to manually intervene). You can always cancel if they don't change the price for you (but they will).

... I was thinking of getting PS3 for some games and Blue-ray (yes, I already have a 360 AND I LOVE IT), and I wasn't going to buy HD-DVD coz it just seemed lame and dying. But with this offer I don't really care if it will die tonight. :D That's a hell of a movies for movie collection. PS3 and MGS4 can wait. :p 360 ftw!

@15 you need to get to the last screen before the discount is applied. Total should be 179.99 plus tax

regarding the 9th movie it will work, but it has to be from the HD DVD list linked to the 360. Those are the only movies that are part of the buy 2 get 1 free deal

i haven't purchased yet, because I have no money, but maybe it will still be going on when I have the funds

To see the discounts you have to check out and go all the way to the confirmation page.

The buy 2 get 1 free works but its a bit YMMV... combos dont work as well as non combos (but paying an extra $10 to get combo titles instead... its hard to complain too much about that).

And this is ends up being a better deal than my $160 (after $40 off $200 coupon) with 2 free $60 worth of titles deal back in July at CC.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Does the HD-DVD player for the 360 also upscale regular old DVDs?

yes, the VGA hookups will work. If you have an HDMI or VGA connection your HDDVD player will upscale your regular DVD's to 1080i.

1080p and 1080i dont really make much of a difference if your TV/Monitor is not bigger then 46 inches (and even then the difference is slight).

Ok so I just bought the deal. 179.99 tax and shipping out the door. Yes the 2 two movies are free but I'm confirming that the 2 for 1 special is valid on this sale make sure that you add the third movie as it wil be all discounted when you get to checkout. I've been on the fence about BD and HD DVD, this deal I couldn't pass up, 9 movies for free. thats like $200 worth of free movies. Lets see what HD DVD sales are like next month.

This sux. I did it, and even the free 3rd DVD worked, but I picked the free shipping and it said my estimated delivery date was Sept 20-28. So I changed it to the normal shipping, and it took away my 1 extra free HD-DVD; it's charging me for it again. BLOWS.

Well...I was able to get the nine movies

1) Added the XBox Drive w/ King Kong(1)
2) Go to http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/102-3494158-8919354ie=UTF8&plgroup=1&docId=1000122571
and I added 300(2), TMNT(3), The Departed(4) and when I checked out it charged me a total of 216 or so...I went ahead and did the order and then called Amazon and after some looking the rep said yes the third would be free and made it so...
3) I will complete the Form for the 5 Free:
Apollo13(5)
Dukes of Hazard(6)
Four Brothers(7)
Blazing Saddles (8)
Perfect Storm or U571 (9)

I figured out that the only way for a Canadian to get in on this deal is to buy the deal through the amazon.com not .ca and have a friend you trust in the us to ship it to. Then just get your friend to ship it to you. It'll cost a lil more when it comes to shipping and you'll likely have to do the same for the sending away for the 5 extra dvds but it gets the job done if you really like the deal.

whether hddvd will win or not, since i heard that 360's hddvd add on is the worst at playing hddvd's anyway, y don't you guys just buy a stand alone. seems logical since there are stand alones that cost about as much as 360's shitty add on. no? yes?

Well I tried this today and went all the way to confirmation page. The items showed being in stock but no discount appeared so I take it this offer must no longer be valid in regards to the free DVD from Amazon so you might as well just buy it from your local store.
