Meet Tekken 6's new fatty: Bob
You kind of have to feel bad for new Tekken 6 fighter "Bob," seen here in a new photo from Japanese Arcadia magazine. Maybe he's always thought of himself as "the guy with curly blond hair" or "the guy who always wears suspenders" or "the guy with the completely unremarkable name." But put against Tekken's crew of hard bodies, Bob is and always will be "the fat one."
Apparently, that's all part of the plan. According to the magazine, Bob used to buy into to myth of conventional beauty, but he got frustrated by how his size limited him. So ... he got super fat. No, it doesn't make a ton of sense to us either, but what do you want? It's Tekken.

He's not fat, he's big boned!
NATO_Duke @ Aug 29th 2007 11:03AM
Good for Bob! Be proud man.
OnimushaSoki @ Aug 29th 2007 12:41PM
Er...yes, big boned. Just like the fat kid from "Bad Santa". ;]
Micheal82 @ Aug 29th 2007 3:50PM
More like Eric Cartman
Jamie @ Aug 29th 2007 9:17PM
"It's amazing how those big bones wobble when you run!"
Rich @ Aug 29th 2007 10:36AM
Seriously? That's a real character?
=['] @ Aug 29th 2007 11:38AM
Chris Penn?
Red Pyramid Thing @ Aug 29th 2007 12:01PM
Hmm? Looks like your typical American to me.
doomcloud @ Aug 29th 2007 1:47PM
how about a little respect for the dead =[']
SymetriX @ Aug 29th 2007 2:53PM
You're questioning if this is for real, but you're ok with a fighting kangaroo and a guy who's transformed into the devil?
vidGuy @ Aug 29th 2007 10:37AM
They could have come up with a more interesting name than Bob. For example, I think he looks like a Jeremiah!
Ska Oreo @ Aug 29th 2007 10:47AM
Dude. Bob is the most bad ass name around. Example, Bob mother fucking Sagot.
ThornedVenom @ Aug 29th 2007 1:21PM
Bob sounds like Blob, therefore it's appropriate.
... damn, Blobert is an awesome name. xD
Captain Jody Anthony XVIII @ Aug 29th 2007 10:39AM

micheal82 @ Aug 29th 2007 11:27AM
Its a me Mario! I mean Bob.
What happened to his mustache and do he a brother?
valdemiro @ Aug 29th 2007 10:40AM
I think it's great that Tekken is doing a crossover with Marvel Vs Capcom. I think the Blob will be a fine addition to the already great roster...wait...what? BOB?
I got a bad feeling about this.
WarioMan @ Aug 29th 2007 10:41AM
No offense to any Bob's out there, but he looks like his name should be Bob.
Neon Jebus @ Aug 29th 2007 10:49AM
No self respecting Bob would ever sport a haircut like that...EVER. Then again my name is Joshua so perhaps I can't speak for all of the Bob Nation.
WarioMan @ Aug 29th 2007 11:21AM
Yes, his hair is kinda Shirley Temple-ish. Just blonde. (Was she blonde?)
WiNG @ Aug 29th 2007 10:44AM
are you friggin kidding me?
DarthDavid @ Aug 29th 2007 10:44AM
With over 60% of Americans overweight.....Japan has every right to make fun of us, cuz that's what there doing right? =)
vidGuy @ Aug 29th 2007 10:49AM
That's stats are so ridiculous though, especially when they are based on BMI. I'm 12% body fat and run 10-20 miles every week, but I'm overweight, pushing obese, on the BMI chart because of my weight (which is mostly muscle and bone) versus height.
I don't doubt the USA has the most honestly obese people, but 60% is a little exaggerated, don't you think?
Jake @ Aug 29th 2007 10:51AM
Yeah, but we're taller, stronger, and have bigger wieners, so there. :P
dhatt1 @ Sep 2nd 2007 4:52PM
This is such a funny stab at America, even though its completely stereotyped. Im sure though they thought that this character will appeal more to the Western market or something.
DarthDavid @ Aug 29th 2007 11:05AM
weightlossinternational.com got us at 65%, USA Today 64.5%......heres some numbers......4 million kids (6-11), 5.3 million (12-19) are overweight & that's in 2003!!!! We are talking about 3.8 million Americans over 300 pounds and 400k over 400....this is reaching Epidemic Proportions...Vid Guy as you can see I wasn't exaggerating, I was below the real number....Jake, yes we have bigger peckers, but its not cool to hide it under our blobber. I'm not some sort of health nut (28 don't work out but still lean just born that way) but those numbers are scary.
vidGuy @ Aug 29th 2007 11:41AM
I'm surprised by the percentage and thanks for looking them up, but my argument still stands. It's epidemic, sure, but there's a problem in how they calculate it. When a person with 12% body fat is considered overweight, almost obese, something is wrong with the scale.
Anticrawl @ Aug 29th 2007 11:41AM
98% of all statiscs you read are bullshit *cackles*
In any case Japan and the rest of the world don't use BMI as standard, so that attributes for about half of the problem there.
DarthDavid @ Aug 29th 2007 12:09PM
Guys let's forget about stats, news, & BMI, here's a better example. Over the past 5 years I've traveled a bit (UK, France, Philippines, Sweden, Malaysia etc) as I walk around busy city streets/shops/restaurants, I rarely see someone who LOOKS overweight/obese (remember no stats just look at them). Now in America go to any public place (mall, park bench, your local main street), sit down and watch people go by I guarantee you that 1 out every 3 will LOOK overweight/obese. This is why other nations sees us that way....this was not based on stats, just perspective.
vidGuy @ Aug 29th 2007 1:53PM
"1 out every 3" != 65% though. That's my point.
Jake @ Aug 29th 2007 4:55PM
Those numbers are such BS. Yeah, America is fat. But if you are calling 65% overweight then your numbers are retarded. I don't care what dumb ass study says so. You are calling people that are slightly chubby, muscular, or having a wide frame as fat when you shouldn't be.
You want a country with serious weight problems. Go to Argentina.
DarthDavid @ Aug 29th 2007 5:09PM
Guys, lets forget about stats, news, BMI & my world tour. Can we at least agree that the U.S. is the fattest/overweight/obese (whatever you want to call it) nation in the world?
vidGuy @ Aug 29th 2007 5:53PM
Sure. America does have a problem and is (or likely is) the country with the most legitimately obese people. The problem I have is it's a stereotype. Even if 1/3 of the people in the US are obese (which I still feel is overstating it), then you are looking at a stereotype that is being projected based on a minority of the population. That's even worse than using some other stereotypes that are at least support by statistics.
Psaakyrn @ Aug 29th 2007 7:30PM
To those comparing people seen vs stat ratio:
Don't forget that it's likely for obese people to also be lethargic and thus don't go out in public.
Brad Lee @ Aug 30th 2007 1:56PM
This Bob character as an American stereotype is pretty bad.
But to me, the worst American stereotype ever has to go to Bass from DOA. Not only is he big, he's arrogant, stupid, always angry, abusive to his daughter, and, of course, has costumes with the American flag AND costumes with a COWBOY HAT. That covers just about everything right there.
Bob looks more like a southern hick stereotype to me.
cyberfrog @ Aug 29th 2007 10:51AM
They can't do that... wasn't hwaorang's ol nickname Bob? I see confusion in the future.
cyberfrog @ Aug 29th 2007 11:22AM
Actually, the more i think of it, I bet the make him like a Sam Ho Hung character (same way that Lei copies jackie chan, Law copies bruce lee, etc)
Ska Oreo @ Aug 29th 2007 10:51AM
Wait a min???? Why is this under the Xbox 360 tag? Does Joystiq know something we don't know?
Word of the street. @ Aug 29th 2007 10:55AM
Maybe the copy and pasted the tags from the other article...or the ps3 was pwned again.
If it comes to the x360 that would totally explain our big bined fella.
Ska Oreo @ Aug 29th 2007 11:14AM
Lol they fixed it.
OR THEY'RE TRYING TO HIDE SOMETHING FROM US!!!
Word of the street. @ Aug 29th 2007 10:52AM
Well yeah its Tekken a game where you can fight using kangaroos, pandas, robots and some weird stuff but in all its context this pretty normal.
In fact I’m glad this happen. In games like DOA, Soul caliber and even sometimes Virtua fighter they have always the Big breasted Blondes in bikinis but now Tekken take fighting games in a whole new direction, show some balls and give us a Big fat slob and for the weight of the average cosmonaut they couldn’t have shown a more appropriated character.
They only need a really ugly girl to be the anti DOA.
Iacobus @ Aug 29th 2007 11:11AM
Blonde? Big-breasted?
Check and check.
All we're missing is the bikini. It could happen.
Alt costume ftw!
Paul P. @ Aug 29th 2007 10:52AM
If his hair were brown he'd look a little like Mario. Also Bob is an awesome name. My guy in Oblivion was named Bob Uppercut.
rivaldi22 @ Aug 29th 2007 11:11AM
Did he have his name tattooed across his chest?
Because he should have.
Jake @ Aug 29th 2007 10:53AM
Tekken was officially announced for 360 quite some time back.
Word of the street. @ Aug 29th 2007 10:56AM
Seriously?,are you not confusing it with VF?.
Ska Oreo @ Aug 29th 2007 11:01AM
Yeah I think you're thinking of VF.
Shinamano @ Aug 29th 2007 10:57AM
Bob is a great fighting game name...and a great fat man name...have all of you forgotten Fight Club?
Also would be interested to know if there is a 360 version planned?
rivaldi22 @ Aug 29th 2007 11:11AM
His name was Bobert Paulsen.
