Press Start: The Movie

"Zack Nimbus (Joshua Stafford) is a typical suburban youth and volunteer monster exterminator living peacefully in a videogame world. It's a realm where people actually do cross rivers by jumping across alligators' heads (or being chomped to death in the attempt) and where injuries can be cured by eating food found laying about in old hallways. Here, the pleasant days are ending due to world conquest by the unspeakably evil but insecure and telephone-addicted wizard, Count Nefarious Vile (Peter Davis).
Zack soon finds himself recruited by battle-hardened space soldier Sam (Lauren Chambers) and enthusiastically bad-tempered ninja Lin-Ku (Al Morrison) to join a last desperate attempt to thwart Vile's imminent victory. But not before lampooning every videogame convention that comes their way."
They're even promising that some "guest stars" will make an appearance, including a mustachioed plumber that you might know. Check out the trailer after the break, and see what life is like with "no continues."

Dear... god.
Meowzers @ Aug 29th 2007 7:37PM
That looked wickedly cheesy... I think I will indeed have to see it in theatre. At least if I can sneak in some sake.
ssuk @ Aug 30th 2007 5:30AM

Meowzers @ Aug 30th 2007 12:15PM

I couldn't stand after watching DOA. Luckily that was at the house.
BPM @ Aug 30th 2007 2:42PM
Did somebody just say "weeaboo?"

OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Aug 29th 2007 7:38PM
They did this already.
It was called "Kid Radd", and it was one of the best video-game 'net comics ever.
This...Not so good.
NintendoFanbot @ Aug 29th 2007 7:39PM
I don't have much to say that wouldn't deride the concept, but it's great that they have the initiative to make something that they want to make and trying to entertain people.
Good luck to them I guess.
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 29th 2007 7:40PM
Real campy.
So there I was with these 2 hammer bros when I jump.
Let me guess, you got hit when he came through the open block.
NO, Bullet Bill to the face.
Nushio @ Aug 29th 2007 7:45PM
I'm not sure if thats a real movie trailer, or just a bunch of students on Youtube...
BPM @ Aug 29th 2007 7:50PM
"They're even promising that some "guest stars" will make an appearance, including a mustachioed plumber that you might know."

Mitsuo @ Aug 29th 2007 8:07PM

BPM @ Aug 29th 2007 8:15PM
Dammit! Sorry, my mistake.
[commits seppuku]
DarkTetsuya @ Aug 29th 2007 9:45PM
Well, iirc he did do cosplay as mario at one point.
AoE @ Aug 29th 2007 10:33PM
DarkTetsuya... that breeze that ruffled your hair earlier? Not a breeze! That was actually the joke...
robert @ Aug 30th 2007 9:47AM

Wilhelm @ Aug 29th 2007 7:56PM
LMAO!
"Why'd you let him hit you?"
"It was his turn."
stracenska @ Aug 29th 2007 8:22PM
So, joystiq thinks this looks good, but the Halo shorts look amateurish to them?
Rususeruru @ Aug 29th 2007 8:24PM
Mushroom anyone?
http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/press-start/372950/
alright aside from stating the blatantly obvious I would like to ask a few questions... why is the girl wearing a sports bra and underwear from Sears? Can I get hair like that guys? And WHO THE HELL IS PAYING FOR THIS!?
Cale @ Aug 29th 2007 8:34PM
I dont think anyone is paying for this. That's why it's so cheap.
That girl's weapon is definitly a zapper. Wow, i cant tell if it's a video reference or if they wanted to cut down their budget furthur.
Carrie @ Aug 29th 2007 8:32PM
Why is the ninja wielding an axe with the Kool-Aid man on it?
Cale @ Aug 29th 2007 8:40PM
I got another one. the girl's face is hidden in every photo except her portraits. She is a space soldier. And her first anme is Sam.
So if the ninja guy yells Justine Bailey will the girl take her clothes off.
alec @ Aug 29th 2007 8:46PM
i think there a very high chance they only filmed this in there house backyard and neighborhood
Emceay @ Aug 29th 2007 8:54PM
What? No Uwe Boll references?
I want to see an ask a ninja movie now.
I like the sword in his face as the old man says it's dangerous outside.
finnith @ Aug 29th 2007 9:05PM
It's like the creators were just really bored that day.
DarkTetsuya @ Aug 29th 2007 9:45PM
I wasn't gonna bother cause it sounded so awful... but watching the trailer it looked so awful... it's funny LOL.
Maybe for christmas XD
plyx @ Aug 29th 2007 9:51PM
God I hate crap like this. I'd rather watch 'Going Overboard' while having a German hooker pounce on my balls with stiletto heels.
generic @ Aug 29th 2007 10:13PM
Don't you mean "American hooker"?
Much fatter.
WiNG @ Aug 29th 2007 9:58PM
can it top this one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyXUVd2c83c
hvnlysoldr @ Aug 29th 2007 10:02PM
Nope it hasn't.
John @ Aug 29th 2007 10:02PM
I love this, I love it's cheesiness, I can't wait to see it. I just hope the dialogue has some really memorable lines like Quest for the Grail or whatever, something you can watch over and over and remember great lines.
They should also come out with a version on VHS!
ThornedVenom @ Aug 29th 2007 10:58PM
...I hate myself so much for having a piqued geek interest in this movie that I could munch a kitten's eyes out.
Dig @ Aug 29th 2007 11:00PM
If anyone is interested, this movie is actually just a live-action version of a collection of Flash cartoons.
http://www.newgrounds.com/collection/pressstart.html
I guess they just wanted to do something with a video camera instead of a PC.
Christopher Lawrance @ Aug 29th 2007 11:22PM
Josh, its Chris. I know you'll see this. Good job buddy, you finally hit the big time. You got my congrats
Cale @ Aug 30th 2007 12:58AM
Sorry man I might guess he's a friend of yours or something but that movie is far from the big time. It might be a step but it's far from the big time.
Paul Gandersman @ Aug 30th 2007 1:10AM
who gave these high schoolers 1 thousand bucks and a mini dv camera to make this piece?
BPM @ Aug 30th 2007 2:07AM
Having watched the trailer and looked through the gallery, I'm about 99% sure this is some small-budget student film.
I'm really enjoying the non-copyright-infringing cheesiness. If this really is coming out on DVD, I'd totally buy it if the price is right.
Amusing things I've noticed:
-The one girl who is wearing very little? Her weapon of choice is a gray Zapper! They didn't even try to hide the Nintendo logo on the side!
-In one of the gallery images, one guy is holding a coffee cup that has a logo that parodies the Starbucks logo. "Mean Bean Brew," it says, with a face that is reminiscent of Dr. Robotnik.
-Zack's old man (I'm guessing he is) says "It's dangerous to go alone! Take this!" Priceless. If someone else says "I am error," then both the best and second-best lines from Zelda have been used (or is "Dodongos dislike smoke" the second-best? Ah, well).
Aberu @ Aug 30th 2007 3:16AM
Is anyone else tired of this unoriginal nerd crap that is trying to tap into any remaining bit of nostalgia left in our souls? I think it just needs to stop. Video game cover bands, cool. Nerdcore rap... acceptable. Movie upon movie, making people feel good about being obsessed with their past every day of their life, just not cool man.
Cap'n Jack @ Aug 30th 2007 8:40AM
Hackneyed and tired.
fawazr @ Aug 30th 2007 8:25AM
I think this will beat Snakes on a Plane for the "so bad it's good" award.
As far as being obsessed with the past, yeah, it might be time to move on.
