Image Epoch isn't wasting any time unloading the sequel to their first effort, Luminous Arc. Marvelous Interactive has announced that they will publish the sequel in Japan by year's end, despite the fact that the first only hit there this past February! But is that really the best time for this sequel? At year's end, Luminous Arc 2 will have a lot of similar competition fighting it out on Japanese shelves. There's Dragon Quest IV, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, the thus-far irresistible Archaic Sealed Heat ... and we're just scratching the surface. Let's hope Luminous Arc 2 Will doesn't get lost in the shuffle. The sequel does promise more in the way of content, equipment and battles, as well as more of the eye-catching art style that brought the first into the spotlight. We'll keep our eyes peeled to see if this latest entry can hold its own.

It's hard for me to look forward to a sequel to a game I didn't like, especially considering that the reason I didn't like it was the crappy story, and nothing they can possibly change in the mechanics of the second could improve that.

I enjoyed...or rather am enjoying it a lot myself. The story is on the simple side, but I just took it for what it is: a light hearted srpg with strong anime influences. Of course it helps that I love this genre.
Indeed, I hope the sequel turns out to be better since it could definitely be improved (especially touch screen implementation!). I really hope atlus translates this as well.

I'll agree and say that the story isn't so great, but, in this day in age, if someone is expecting every RPG they purchase to be an intricate narrative masterpiece their expectations are way too high. For years now, as the cliches of the genre have become unavoidable, the quality of gameplay is becoming more and more important, and it's here that Luminous Arc succeeds with its no-frills SRPG action. I'm having a blast with the game right now; it's a good hold-over until FFT A2 comes out, which is still some time off.
