Cyberball, Fatal Fury on XBLA next week, limited price drops this weekend
Eager to ditch the office for the last rays of summer sun, Microsoft has let loose word of next week's Xbox Live Arcade update a bit early. Ready for this...? A pair of Silver Age arcade ports:
- Cyberball 2072 (400 points): X3F calls it "football for nerds" where today's deficiencies are replaced with robots and the pigskin explodes. 2072 is the 1989 update to the original Atari game and is better known as Tournament Cyberball, which still captivates competitive circles of, um, nerds.
- Fatal Fury Special (400 points): Fatal Fury 2 with bells and whistles, namely some old fighters and playable bosses. As Garou Densetsu Special, the game became a huge hit in Japan for successfully transplanting Ryo Sakazaki (from sister franchise Art of Fighting) as a hidden character, laying the seed for SNK's The King of Fighters series. Nearly 15 years later, perhaps the innovation is lost on us.

This is pretty sweet news all around. Fatal Fury for 400 points is a no brainer, and the so is dig dug and gauntlet for 200 each. Yes!
Phour ZwanZig @ Aug 30th 2007 11:02PM
Yeah ditto that DigDug..
I may have to spend some points now.. 200 is a no-brainer..

Why don't they drop the price permanently? You would think games would eventually drop in price, but here we are almost 2 years after launch and Zuma is just now getting a temporary price drop? I can get a used copy of PGR3 for less.

That picture is really ugly.

Is Fatal Fury going to have online play?
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Aug 30th 2007 4:11PM
Yes sir, Live online Neo Geo @$$ kickin for all of us! Wheres Samurai Showdown, Art of Fighting, and World Heroes? Lol!! Cant wait, this was a classic back in the day!
LAboy @ Aug 30th 2007 4:20PM
Awesome, thanks for clearing that up
DarthDavid @ Aug 30th 2007 4:09PM
When is the Wii going to start having Neo Geo games? Last I heard, the VC was going to get SNK stuff by late/end of summer.....what's up with that dudes?!?!
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Aug 30th 2007 4:20PM
How bout Killer Instinct 1 & 2 for the Wii?? Is that out? Sorry Im not too savvy on Wii stuff. Ide like the actual Arcade versions though not the SuprNin or 64 versions
DaiMac79 @ Aug 30th 2007 4:21PM
I think this, along with the Fatal Fury collection that is supposedly still coming out on PS2, are kind of the answer to your question. They want to milk as much money on other platforms first. That, and even small Neo-Geo games would make a big dent in your Wii's memory, I assume when we get an HDD add-on or whatever Nintendo is planning the SNK stuff will drop then or shortly thereafter.
Still sucks to wait, I agree. I want Mark of The Wolves on my Wii dammit!
DarthDavid @ Aug 30th 2007 4:28PM
All I really want is Baseball Stars 2, Super Baseball 2020, and Samurai Showdown 2...these are some of the best two-player games for the 24-bit beast.
megaStryke @ Aug 30th 2007 4:55PM
The largest Neo-Geo cartridge could store 716 Mbits of data. The largest N64 cartridge could store 512 Mbits of data. I highly doubt that many games took up ALL that memory. Remember, these cartridges sizes increased over the life of the console. The average Neo-Geo game probably requires around as much or less space as an N64 game.

"Nothing like half-priced underperformers, eh?"
...well the wii seems to be doing okay
ZING!
baby sea tuna @ Aug 30th 2007 4:29PM
No, those are OVERpriced underperformers.
Also, nobody talks shit about Zuma! WTF?
AgentESPIO7 @ Aug 30th 2007 7:21PM
lol ZING!
And yeah, although Zuma isn't the BEST game on XBLA, and although it may be an overpriced game doesn't mean its an underperformer. Zuma should have been 400 though, along with Bejeweled.
lysernix @ Aug 30th 2007 4:52PM
Cause Zuma is teh bomb... except its about 1000x easier to control on PC where everyone already beat it.

I'm still holding out for a Rise of the Robots XBLA release. One day...
