The nebulous "November" release date for the highly-anticipated RPG Mass Effect is now primed for dimensional travel November 20. The preview videos have been yummy, the conversation system looks amazing, even our time with the game was nice -- now if we could only get a straight answer on those weird frame-rate hiccups we keep seeing.
We hope that'll all be cleaned up by November when we'll be partaking in turkey and then sitting our tryptophan overdosed selves down for hours of Mass Effect. Who would watch football after dinner when there's a galaxy to save?

The report in Gamerscore Blog reads:

Ass Effect is the AO version sold in adult video stores on Christopher Street here in NYC.

I never cared for any of those PS3 soon-to-be-releasing games that are being touted as AAA titles, because I never thought of them as such. In fact the only PS3 game I own right now is NG Sigma, and I plan on buying just Heavenly Sword until MGS4.
That said, I already own 6 Xbox 360 games, so don't think I'm some fanboy. And I even buy the 360 version of multi games for Live and rumble. I'm just saying that next year is when the PS3 will get it's console-movers. The main difference between the PS2 and PS3 is that the PS2 got such games within the first year instead of the second.
I just can't see anything exclusive coming from MS that can stand up to the upcoming PS3 titles I mentioned.

Damn, I forgot to click the reply button again. Disregard the above comment since it's out of context.

The PS3 looks to be getting bigger games next year, especially with respect to familiar 4th to 40th sequel type titles. As far as new IP's go, the 360 again next year will probably have the edge. But this year the 360 is just having such a monster fall for games it is hard to believe.

This game is going to absolutely rock. Man, 2007 is the year of the 360.

The only problem I have with the game is the fact that it is coming out at the same time as so many others. It's gonna hurt the sales of the game.
That's still not stopping me though, I'm gonna buy it no matter how poor I get to be.

I honestly don't see what everyone is so excited for with this game. It looks kind of typical and boring to me.
Is there something special about it that I'm missing or something?

Ha ha Samfish very funny. How about you make me really laugh and tell me what game(s) Mass Effect is like that makes it so "typical".
I suppose your argument will be that it involves aliens and projectile weaponry and is therefore lame. Metroid isn't though because it has waggle?

Ha ha . Leave it to Samfish to make an OBVIOUS fanboy statement. You're either blind or cracked. To control the outcome of the story depending on how you interact with others, not to mention a great looking story and spectacular visuals. Final Fantasy (linear) what??? It's almost like playing an interactive movie where you're the star. Not only that, but customizing the look of your main character. It's a RPG of Hollywood proportions and you're in control. How is that not appealing? What do you like, Dance Dance Revolution? The Sims? Maybe you should go to Gametrailers.com and check out the videos.

[I've seen the trailers and it just looks like your typical sci-fi shooter, apparently with RPG elements.]
The problem with that complaint is you can say the exact same thing about Metroid, except swap out 'RPG' for 'Adventure'... and I'm sure you're a fan of MP3C, right? I'm just getting tired of the same people that bitch about Sci-Fi shooters somehow excusing Metroid from being referred to in the same negative fashion even though it too is a Sci-Fi shooter.
Another gripe I have is how people try to act like shooters are all the same, especialy "sci-fi" shooters. "Sci-Fi" is so fvcking broad. You can have two "sci-fi" shooters that are absolutely nothing alike, yet too many fanboys (especially Nintendo fanboys) try to act as if they are the same.

I actually have no intentions of picking up Metroid (although I'm curious about the controls) and I believe I've said that numerous times, Vidikron. Nice try, though.

I don't like shooters. I've said that and I know you know that, as I recall you've acknowledged it in the past. Whenever I play them, I get the feeling of 'been there, done that' every time.
And you're right. Sci-fi is a broad term. It's a shame that game developers don't realize that, though. Let's see a game that's not people running around in high tech, semi-bulky space suits and doesn't conjure up images of of BSG and other iconic sci-fi elements.
To Mass Effects credit, though, it does have it's own visual flair.
"but try and remember that when someone doesn't like Metroid, Mario or Zelda. "
While I could be wrong, I'm fairly certain I've never ripped on anyone for not liking a certain game.
And again, I'm not interested in Metroid at all, really.

Hold on a second. When did Mass Effect become a shooter? Is combat real-time? Do you have to actually aim?

Samfish. Which game(s) would you liken Mass Effect to, since it is so typical? I think we'd all get a chuckle if you gave examples.
There just aren't a whole lot of open world rpg's in space using magic and customizable squad shooter combat with time stop options allowing turn based style play built around a flexible story driven by the most impressive conversation system ever put into a game.
Let me guess, though. Your brain can only see guns and aliens, therefore it is just like Gears, Halo, UT3, Too Human, etc. But not like Prime 3, that game is super unique because it uses a Wiimote AND doesn't suck.
(ftr I own and am enjoying Prime 3)

bl13, I'm pretty sure it's like KOTOR. Real time if you want it to be, but you can freeze the action and set up macros if that's your thing.

Sorry Sam, I didn't see your latest post before making mine. But really, calling Mass Effect typical is just plain silly. You need to come to terms with that.
Besides, you don't need to play the game like a shooter if you don't want to anyways. It allows you to freeze actions and select "your next move" if you prefer a more turn based type experience.
