I pretty much agree all over. I am kinda stingy with my points, and I bought this one after one full round against the misses. I've been waiting for this one for awhile. I almost bought MK Deception for the puzzle kombat cuz it was previously as close as you could get to true Puzzle Fighter. Now I don't have to bother.

Z-Mode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh how I've missed you... Puzzle Fighter just isn't the same without you; after the dreamcast retired we hardly spoke... I'm glad you're back though.

Free Time, it's been nice knowing you, hopefully we'll get reacquainted at some point...

I think it's funny to see this review Richard. It seems like only yesterday I was listening to a podcast where the three of you made fun of X Arcade reviews.

I have to disagree and say that I enjoy reading reviews on all games. I understand giving a review on something like pacman is sort of pointless, but sometimes it's more like a person's personal reaction to the gameing experience. What it's like to go back and play Ocarina of Time.

I like that you excluded a numerical score and I look forward to playing this classic.

Is this game really that good? its got a great score on IGN too. When i think about it, A puzzle game and Fighting game rolled into one, its really hard to fathom.

i guess if its a puzzle game i can get my g/f to play too.

The sprites for the characters are absolute crap... they really do a lot to undermine the quality of the game's graphics, as /everything else/ in the title looks utterly fantastic.

Whose idea was it to ship the game with everything redrawn except the character?

I have no interest in the game, haven't even read your review... but I HEARTILY APPLAUD you for not using a number! The last sentence of your review (okay, I peeked) is the type all reviews should summarize with.

@ Dr. Klaw

I 100% agree.. though had they redone the actual sprites i'm guess we'd still be waiting on the game to come out.. much like the HD Street Fighter II

While the sprites did annoy me at first because everything else looked so wonderful, you dont notice them enough to care after a while. This has been one of my favorite games since I first played it way back in 97.... I played it so much my dreams were invaded by dropping bricks.

I first played this on my PS2 (despite it being a PS1 game). After I sold my PS2, and became an Xbox fanboy, I was afraid that I'd never enjoy Puzzle Fighter ever again, so I was extremely happy to see that this would be coming to Xbox Live Arcade. I'm just as addicted to this as I was to the original game that I played.

These kinds of games are lost on me since I'm colorblind. It would be nice to have an option to put symbols or something on there instead. Hexic has that.

This game is GREAT! Benn playing the demo and I fell in love with it all over again.

I agree...the sprites could have been better (kinda fuzzy)....I don't like buying too many MS Points...but I'll HAVE to throw some down tomorrow to pick this up.

Man i've had some serious lag issues with this game and I don't know why. NAT is Open, I have little to no lag with all my other games. Yet with this one every game ive tried to play lags, and there are serious connection errors sometimes too. Any solutions?

Nice review.

Dunno if it's me or what but I just can't get into it at all. I'll admit I've only ever played puzzle fighter once before but I tried the XBLA version last night and felt the same as I did the first time.

I love a good puzzle game but I'm just not feeling it for SPFIITHDR :o(

@19, not sure what you mean by "4D"...the 4th dimension is typically associated with "time", so are you saying that games on the 360 cannot cope with the passage of time?

frikken ps3 fanboys, at least learn to flame properly.

dear capcom,

the sprites in this game are very poorly done. everything is revamped, and done in HD, while the sprites, right there in the middle of the screen, look like horrid shit.

who was doing quality control for this game? did someone at Capcom actually sit down and play and say, "those sprites are not HD. they look blurry. lets ship anyway."

utter crap.

thanks for trying. i won't be buying this game.

I'm with Strider 100% -- I mean, Tetris and its offspring are nothing without eye-popping graphics.

Cocksucker.

On a more serious note, this was my wife's absolute favorite PSX game, right up until it (and all our other Christmas presents) were stolen out of the back seat of my car. She was really pumped to play it again, but it was the first time she had spent a significant amount of time using the D-Pad on the 360 controller, and she hates it. She's not even sure she wants me to bother buying the full version, because it's so painful to try to deal with this mushy piece of crap. Are any of the 3rd-party controllers any better D-pad-wise?

Spot on review. I remember this game from the old PS1 days as well. True story, my girl is sitting on the couch right now fighting her way through new z mode...she doesn't game much. So God of War here, some WoW there, but for the most part is interested, but not totally into it. However, between this game and Katamari, I can finally game with my girl. If you want the fairer sex to play, show em this one.
