We hope you forgive us for wondering aloud about this exact subject during the podcast going up today, we're going to seem positively out of the loop. Despite our pride, we wanted to tell you that Retro Studios, which just finished up the excellent Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, is taking a break from the series.
As the game's director Mark Pacini told Yahoo in this video interview, "We are taking a break from the Metroid series and from Samus, I'm sure there will be other titles created, but, as far as Retro Studios is concerned, we're taking a break for a little bit." Listen Retro, we're sad to hear it, but you just made three games, we understand. In slightly more chuckle-inducing news, can you believe the team didn't know about the Wii control scheme until they were 9 months into development? Oh, what we would have given to be a fly on that wall.

Metroid is about backtracking, dude. That's what made the original so fun and it's sticking to the roots. Also, I found that 3 contained minimal backtracking when compared to the other two. I can remember only a couple instances (besides the fetch quest) when you were FORCED to go back to a planet.
Also, if you don't like the controls, try switching it out of 'standard' and into 'advanced.' It makes it more Metroid and less Red Steel.

You're free to say what you like about the Metroid backtracking -- it's pretty much what the entire series is all about, and you either like it or you don't. But the controls? I liked RE4Wii too, but you know what Metroid has that it didn't have? Strafe. Sure, Leon could use the thumbstick to turn and do a 180 spin, but he couldn't move while firing/aiming, or strafe for that matter. In MP3, the motion controls make it possible to have the full range of motion that you would have in a PC shooter environment.
Also, were you playing on the standard difficulty? I found that one too easy as well, so I dumped my savegame early on and switched to veteran mode. I think they may be trying to bring along the Wii newbies a bit, but I don't mind so much.

The other games might be better for you, but this game is still impressive, and a worthy sequel. But we are all entitled to our own opinions.

Its a shame they can't do turok but alas its being raped er updated by another dev....... To bad they could toy with a Blood sequel, take Blood 1 make it a bit more of a adventure and maybe with hub levels, focus on the campy horror and humor and fun weapons and monsters.
Blood 2 dose not exist >>
oooo Hexen mixed with metroid prime with melle combat dose not sound bad either LOL
3-4 charatcers/class to start chose would be cool.

Its understandable. Personally I really hope they develop a NEW ip... remakes are cool, but i'd like some fresh ideas out there.
And these guys seem talented enough to come up with something great.

They really deserve the break. At first I was happy 3 was going to be the end, but now after I've played Prime 3(and loving it), I'm now sad that they are.
But then again, you can't stretch the prologue of the "in between" canons for too long. Just look at Star Wars.
