Now, if SEGA would just get off their lazy asses and make VF 5 online for PS3 all would be right in the world. Although I'm looking forward to VF 5 online for the Xbox 360, the controller just isn't as good for fighters like the PS3. But achievements will be nice.

Oh and Tekken 5 online is pretty cool too. At least to tide over until Soul Calibur 4

What a rip off. GT5 Prologue will also feature online, is technically a new game, and will be free to download. Looks like I'll only be playing DOA4 until either T6 or SC4 releases.

I guess you won't like hearing THIS nugget of info:

http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=20215

Sony issued a press release that GT5 Prologue will be available as a PSN title and a Blu-Ray release. I highly doubt that Wal-Mart is going to hand out free games, so that pretty much means that the PSN version will cost as well.

Actually I did know about that, and I naturally assumed that the two versions will not be identical since they've already said it would be free on PSN. My best guess is that the BD version will have features you'd otherwise have to pay to download, like extra cars and tracks.

Pay to play online? This is as bad as Apple charging for the N-band drivers for their computers.

It doesn't matter. People are paying for a feature that should of have been in the game in the first place.

And this patch should have been free as well.

Actually this seems worse.

Apple had to charge what was it like $1.99 or some crap so that they wouldn't violate Sarbanes-Oxley by adding functionality to hardware that they had already accounted the revenue for. It wasn't about filling coffers.

If Namco has to do the same, $10 seems like they are counting on the revenue.

Ok... so instead of paying 50$ for a online subscription service we're treated to paying 10$ per game, to play online? riighht...

So let's see here if i play 10 games on xbox live i pay one subscription for all 10 games.

however on psn (and don't say just tekken would be doing this cause there news of a downloadable unlock on VF5) i would have to purchase the online mode for each game.

woo... sony sure knows how to pull the monies from idiots.

I'll bite. Did you love that horse armor add-on? 32,400 points spent on swimsuits and other gear for DOA? Or 7,320 points for content on Carbon? And from a purely financial perspective, I'd rather not have my money locked up in virtual funds not even accruing virtual interest.

Live is a great service, but I'm thinking you are throwing stones from a glass house.

I personally have never played Carbon so i can't excuse carbon. However i own DOAX(which i am assuming since you said swimsuits)

All of which were aviliable for purchase on xbox live for that game is Ligitmatly earnable in the game.

They don't force you to buy the swimsuits, nor have they come out with limited edition content.

So basically people who are paying for it, are lazy. Period. Your basically paying for the convince of not having to earn those swimsuits. That's it.

Never the less Additional content is not the same as a Actual Online Mode.

People expect to charge for download song packs or new maps. That's understandable. However don't you find it funny how they are charging for online mode?

If they provided new characters or hell even new moves, then that would be a fair thing to be charging extra for.

ok Aeikozz, you do realize that you are pretty much buying a normal game right? not some crappy ass game (with exceptions) from XBLA.... You know what, if you want you could go get the PSP version, which when it came out I believe was $40? now you are getting a psp game with many bonuses including online mode (which the PSP version did't have) and you complain? oh, and I think that Tekken 5DR had amazing reviews if you are into what other people say...

So yah, a quality game for $30, awesome deal

Oh, and isn't it funny that for XBL, you are also being charged for online mode? I mean, in the PS3, its just for a few games, in XBL, I believe it is for all games o__o;;;

You could earn two of those three items in the games listed. There are many, many others that are not. Besides, you're point was that Sony is a predator on idiots and my counter point is that your corporate patron is no saint.

VF5 didn't have on-line because it took them time to craft it, but they had extra time before the 360 release. Few deny that the PSN has catching up to do with Live. However, I've only seen charging for online play when it was an afterthought to the original game. And everything released after the initial game, fair or not, is usually provided for a fee by any Console service.

Games like Motorstorm, Warhawk, UT3, EA Ripoff 2008, and others are on-line by default because they were designed from the get-go to be that way.

I read this on Kotaku, and it's pretty disgusting how the fanboys are defending this, by calling it an "expansion." Yeah I know Xbox Live does charge us for almost everything it has, but at least us XBL users can rest in the fact that almost every game has some online support for it. I guess we're finally seeing the negative side of having a free online service.

"I read this on Kotaku, and it's pretty disgusting how the fanboys are defending this, by calling it an "expansion.""

well, you do know that it IS an expansion, because as far as I knew the real game didn't have online matches.

"Yeah I know Xbox Live does charge us for almost everything it has, but at least us XBL users can rest in the fact that almost every game has some online support for it."

well, what about all those "expansions" that you also have to pay for in XBL in top of the monthly/yearly charge for your XBL membership?

"I guess we're finally seeing the negative side of having a free online service."

err, this has nothing to do with Sony, really, how is this closely related to Sony? Namco is charging for something extra, yes, extra, because it wasn't on the original game...oh, and for your information, just like I mentioned before, this is a quality fighting game that only costs $30, whatelse could you ask for? You even have free online service...and it also works wonderful, to me at least, it has been lag free even while playing warhawk.... :D

I sense confusion is coming from all pores here. There is no standard that all games that come out will require you to pay to get on-line (ala Resistance: FOM). Tekken was already released for $19.99 as a standalone, then they released the on-line capability for an additional $10. This is the only game on PSN that has this setup (so far as I know). Every other game allows you to just pay one fee for the game and multiplayer (ala Warhawk, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo:HD Remix).

I hope this clears things up for some of you.

I can see your point. I hope Sony does not set a precedent in doing this. The only reason I am somewhat OK with it is because the game was $20. If Sony starts adding an extra $10 on a $50 game for online access, I will be in line to call "Foul" on them.

@Ska

Did the original PSP game have online play? Because as far as I know this was a port of the PSP game. If the original didn't have online play then this really is an expansion. Also, I don't know why you're trying to claim that this is a sign of things to come. Is this really worse than Lumines on XBLA being sold in pieces? Did XBLA simply fall part after that? Is everything now sold in pieces? No and no.

@Vidikron

If I remember correctly, VF5 is a ps3 port which didn't have online play and somehow us 360 users are getting it. The fact is Namco could have put online in the first place when they first released it and since they decided on not doing that, they could have and should have made the patch free since it should have been there in the first place, regardless of whether it's a port or not.

It's one of the things that right now XBL has over PSN. When I'm using it I can rest in the knowledge that every game that I play has some sort of online support right from the box,(or when I dl).

I guess you never really played the game, because it had that option even on the PSP :)

Oh, and if it is like you say, then Sega should make a patch for VF5 for PS3 for online matches

Not sure what you guys expect. Xbox live and any console online thing pretty much blows. When Oblivion came out on 360 all us PC Oblivion gamers belongin to the Morrowind and Oblivion creation community laughed our asses off at the limited mods that you had to PAY for. I thought Xbox Live created the standard that you had to pay for crap on a console.

Anyway onto Tekken online being an expansion. The fact that Tekken 5 DR was a PSP exclusive up until PS3 release makes me think this is a new game. Understandably it was on PS3 prior to online support but I'm not sure what you guys expect. Namco is made of people working to create content and support for videogames that've created. This isn't the creation community that PC gamers are a part of, who work for free for the benefit of all. No this is Namco, who have to pay their bills and aren't working on their spare time for nothing. These guys need to be paid.

I think what angers the 360 fans is that the sony fans always tauted the fact that their online was free and that the xbox fans were idiots to let ms charge for online capabilities. So now that we see one instance, only one so far, in which sony is charging for something online to defend is just as idiotic as the bots defending their subcription. If this does indeed become standard then it simply equalizes the PSN with Live as for as making some sort of payment.

Okay, so a 360 user pays $60 for Oblivion and then has to pay EXTRA for horse armour (though people on here seem to think that you can work to get it).

Tekken:DR sells for $20 and is advertised as a complete standalone game with NO online connectivity.
6 months later they come out with an add-on, which is totally optional, that allows a user to play online. Hasn't the 360 crowd been screaming at everyone else how it is about choice? So now that we are given the choice, it's wrong. I really don't understand their mentality.

I bought Tekken:DR fully aware that it had no online connectivity and for $20 what do you expect? If I paid, $40-60 for it, I would expect something more from it and/or free online content. But for $20, I don't see why the 360 crowd is in an uproar about this.

Shouldn't they be playing their EXCLUSIVE game called Bioshock instead of reading PS3 news which they so openly hate? Btw - If BioShock is considered a 360 exclusive, why can I play it on the PC (aka 360 Senior) then? 360 people, please learn the proper use of words before using them. You will appear at least somewhat educated though you obviously are not.)

I own a 360, but I'm no stranger to Sony I own a PS2 and Tekken 5 and Tekken DR is fucking rip, Sony could have made this game for PS2 but instead kept it for the PS3 crowd because they lacked a good fighter game. I'm pissed at this news because when Tekken 5 first came out two years ago I was thinking its a solid game but lacked online play like Mortal Kombat VI had. Now they've added online to the rip off Tekken 5 update, this blows and are reasons like this why I given up on Sony. Sony offered the shittest online support ever for the PS2.

xbox fanboys are really reaching with this one

The game cost $30. period. For this we get a full game with online play. With multiple user names I may add.

What do you get for $50 on Live? Well you get one online user name that you and your kid brother, friends, and/or girlfriend have to share, because else you would be paying $100/year to play on peer to peer servers. Tell me how much you like Live when you have to re-up your gold service in a few months.

dedicated servers. FTW
